setting up a new mirror (unofficial)
Greetings, I am, and have been attempting to set up a local mirror of stable frozen unstable. I live behind a firewall and the local admin seems to think that the rsync port should be closed. I was hoping to use mirror to install only the i386 and powerpc binary branches. Unfortunately my classes have not given me the time to dig out all the details and after a couple of passes through the docs I am ready to beg for help. Would some one please post their mirror.defualts and or some instructions on how to do this? By the way, I also only have passive ftp available. A new mirror of ftp.debian.org is available for you at http://gusp.infogroup.it/debian or ftp://gusp.infogroup.it/pub/debian i386 part is already complete, while filling of alpha, m68k and arm is in progress. Mirrored distributions are stable and unstable. non-US is also available. New Mirror :)
I have set up a US Debian mirror ftp site in E. Lansing, Michigan: ftp://debian.egr.msu.edu/debian It should be quite fast, as it is on 100mb to Fiber, then out to the world- which last time I checked was a T3 down to Ann Arbor. This site will be up 24-7, (minus the morning of the 29th of Decemeber), and as long as it doesn't cause serious problems with our network and security.
