what do u mean by Point to point ??? i think you may be getting terms
confused. if your
thinking of using Peer to peer networking (Connecting 2 machines
directly via a crossover, or
peer to peer cable) you don't need any special options the systems
will just work provided they
are configured on the same subnet, and the cable is of the correct type.

the only reaosn i would see to have a point to point connection would be
using the ppp or slip
interfaces..never heard of it being used on an ethernet interface.

  I think he's talking about ppp over ethernet, that would be pppoe
(IIRC), not sure how to set it up...

  ??? peer to peer does not have anything to do with the (hw) type of
connection (or network topology), it is more abstract term meaning that
the computers are not in client server relationship but they are 'peers'
to each other. at least that's the general meaning of the term... there
might be secondary meaning that you describe I just never heard of it...

  some dsl providers use it.

Hey,

I need to set up an ethernet interface on my debian box as a pointopoint
interface.

I tried the following:

/etc/network/interfaces

eth0 inet static
 address my ip
 netmask 255.255.255.255
 pointopoint remote ip

If I do a ifup eth0 the interface is brought up with the correct IP and
netmask but in broadcast and not pointopoint mode.

Anyone have any ideas.
