actually i used ur first suggestion disabled IRQ 10 now they are seperated, but i still can't seem to figure out how to initialize eth1 i think i might be trying to load module on top of module loading eth0 instead of eth1 how is this done effectively? sorry about so many replies! - Original Message - From: Robert Waldner [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Beavis [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: debian list debian-user@lists.debian.org Sent: Wednesday, April 05, 2000 3:59 PM Subject: Re: installing two NIC's On Wed, 05 Apr 2000 15:30:20 PDT, Beavis writes: yes, they are both pci cards is there a way to change the irq's physically? none that I´m aware of, hey, they´re pci-cards ;-) have you tried the set-the-gfx-card-in-between workaround? rw -- / Robert Waldner [EMAIL PROTECTED] | Phone: +43 1 89933 0 Fax x533 \ \KPNQwest/AT tech staff| Diefenbachg. 35 A-1150 Wien / -- Unsubscribe? mail -s unsubscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED] /dev/null

another thing to try is yank out the eepro card and see if the linksys becomes eth0, if not then it is for sure not a conflict. im thinking its a driver thing, outdated driver or the wrong driver, i dont have experience using the ne2k pci cards so i can't really advice further along that path :( nate On Wed, 5 Apr 2000, Beavis wrote: beavis how do u initially set up eth1 beavis beavis eth0 i went into modconf and loaded the module to the kernel beavis i am using 2.0.38 by the way, beavis i just want to set up eth1 but i think i am doing it wrong beavis i got past the step of isolating the cards, now how do i track down and beavis attach the module for eth1 beavis beavis lo --loop back beavis eth0 is eepro100 beavis eth1 doesn't exsist yet beavis beavis beavis beavis - Original Message - beavis From: Robert Waldner [EMAIL PROTECTED] beavis To: Beavis [EMAIL PROTECTED] beavis Cc: debian list debian-user@lists.debian.org beavis Sent: Wednesday, April 05, 2000 3:59 PM beavis Subject: Re: installing two NIC's beavis beavis beavis On Wed, 05 Apr 2000 15:30:20 PDT, Beavis writes: beavis yes, they are both pci cards beavis beavis is there a way to change the irq's physically? beavis beavis none that I?m aware of, hey, they?re pci-cards ;-) beavis beavis have you tried the set-the-gfx-card-in-between workaround? beavis beavis rw beavis -- beavis / Robert Waldner [EMAIL PROTECTED] | Phone: +43 1 89933 0 Fax x533 \ beavis \KPNQwest/AT tech staff| Diefenbachg. 35 A-1150 Wien / beavis beavis beavis beavis beavis beavis -- beavis Unsubscribe? mail -s unsubscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED] /dev/null beavis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ]-- Vice President Network Operations http://www.firetrail.com/ Firetrail Internet Services Limited http://www.aphroland.org/ Everett, WA 425-348-7336http://www.linuxpowered.net/ Powered By:http://comedy.aphroland.org/ Debian 2.1 Linux 2.0.36 SMPhttp://yahoo.aphroland.org/ -[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ]-- 6:16pm up 8 days, 23:56, 3 users, load average: 0.09, 0.06, 0.06

You should then see it via ifconfig, if you don´t, try ´ifconfig -a´. ´ifconfig eth1 x.x.x.x/xx up´ will set the ip-address and netmask. if this works, all you have to do is put ne2k-pci in /etc/modules to get the module loaded at boot time, and edit /etc/init.d/network accordingly to the appropriate ip-addresses. hth, rjust looking for a 4th nicw -- / Robert Waldner [EMAIL PROTECTED] | Phone: +43 1 89933 0 Fax x533 \ \KPNQwest/AT tech staff| Diefenbachg. 35 A-1150 Wien /

I found that the easiest thing was to run dmesg and see if the OS tried to load the modules for the cards. You may have loaded both cards but you haven't setup ifconfig for eth1. Look at dmesg. i infact tried that and got after dmesg: eepro100-drivers eth0: Intel EtherExpressyada.yada irq 9 receiver-blaha General self test Serial Sub-system test Internel registers passed then tulip.c: drivers eth1: Lito-OnMac ADress irq 5 but no tests. when i run ifconfig i don't get eth1, just lo and eth0 if the driver loaded, how do i update the ifconfig???
