Ik denk dat het software problemen zijn, misschien dat de nieuwe driver verbetering brengt (deze zit overigens nog niet in het 2.6.38 kernel van Debian, wel in dat van Ubuntu). Het kan ook hardware zijn (slechte antenne b.v.), maar dat verwacht je niet van een stick die normaal 40 euro kost. USB Wlan stick onderzoekje
Hallo, Ik heb een klein onderzoekje gedaan naar USB Wlan sticks. In eerste instantie heb ik een D-link dwl-g122 usb adapter gekocht op Marktplaats omdat ik had gelezen dat deze het goed deed. Hij bleek het inderdaad goed te doen op Debian stable met het pakket firmware-ralink uit non-free. Maar hij is wat verouderd. Toen las ik over de Atheros AR9170 chip die support voor 802.11abgn bied en firmware onder de GPL heeft. Het gaat om deze driver: http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/ar9170 Ik heb de Netgear WN111v2 weten te kopen die deze chip heeft. Hij doet het goed met het firmware pakket uit Debian: firmware-atheros Jammergenoeg blijkt dit toch de closed-firmware te zijn, de open firmware vond ik hier, ik heb hem niet geprobeerd: http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/ar9170.fw De driver is ondertussen herschreven, de nieuwe versie zit dacht ik in Linux 2.6.38 (in elk geval bij Ubuntu, bij Debian gaf de filelist van het package een error) en gebruikt dan echt alleen de GPL firmware: http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/carl9170 Mochten er mensen zijn die interesse hebben in deze Netgear, ik heb hem vrij goedkoop kunnen kopen (15 euro), en wellicht kan ik er via dezelfde bron meer krijgen. It's a good idea to run update-usb-ids regularly since that script goes out to a central web site and updates available devices support. Welchen Kernel setzt Du den da ein? Ich habe (warum habe ich immer noch nicht so richtig raus bekommen) auf meinem Laptop die Erfahrung gemacht das mit Linux 2.6.14.* und Debian/sarge PCMCIA nicht funktioniert und sich die Karte so verhaelt als haette sie keinen Strom. Evtl. bietet sich da mal der Test mit einem anderen Kernel und/oder einer Knoppix CD an. ¹http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/pcmcia/pcmcia.html Cardbus tut hier einer atheros mit hotplug. Bei meinem Amilo A1640 funktionierte der PCMCIA-Slot erst, nachdem ich zu den Kerneloptionen in /boot/grub/menu.lst reserve=0x1e00,0x200 hinzugefügt habe. Bei /etc/lilo.conf gehört der reserver-Eintrag in die append-Zeile. Den Tip hatte ich aus http://www.amilo-forum.de. Als WLAN-Karte verwende ich eine Sitecom WL-112 mit RaLink RT2560 Chip. Hat Ich hatte mal das Amilo 7xxx meines Chefs in den Fingern. Intel 2200, da gabs sourceforge-Treiber + Firmware von Intel für. Das ging sogar unter Woody. Man brauchte Firmware enabled + jede Menge aus Encryption im Kernel. Was für einen Chip hat das Ding denn?
