I don't think that full automatization is possible with any app. What is problem with GIMP: selecting part of image or make exactly the same gradient but in different color, something else? Maybe full automatization isn't possible but you can do it manually. xemacs background won't show an .xpm file
I posted this question to the xemacs list. No one has responded, so I thought I'd try here: I recently bought a new PC and installed Debian 3, XFree86 Version 4.1.0.1 from a Debian package. On my Red Hat box, I was able to display a pixmap, grey.xpm, as the background in xemacs. For a screen shot, visit: http://members.fcwm.org/glen/fvwm/fvwm2.jpg I can't get it to work on the Debian box. Instead of displaying the pixmap I'm getting a solid black background. Following is the line I'm using in .xemacs.conf: (default ((t (:size 11pt :stipple /home/glenlee/.fvwm/paper/grey.xpm :family Lucidatypewriter))) t) Any suggestions as to what might be wrong? Am I missing a library or something? Thanks, Glen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Xemacs 21.4 puts its config files in ~/.xemacs, and calls them init.el and custom.el(from customize, not to be edited by hand). Have you deliberately changed that? Well, sort of not really. I have extensive modifications, most of which are in various files in ~/lisp. When I installed xemacs on this box, I first copied all my configuration files over from the other server. On installing xemacs, it stated that it wanted to make some changes regarding moving configuration files from ~/ to ~/.xemacs, which I agreed to. init.el reads: (add-to-list 'load-path /home/glenlee) (if (string-match XEmacs emacs-version) ; compares Xemacs with results of emacs-version (setq custom-file .xemacs.conf) ; if true custom file becomes .xemacs.conf (setq custom-file .emacs.conf)) ; if false custom file becomes .emacs.conf - odd way of doing if - else. (load custom-file) which is word for word what .emacs used to read. It's doing a pretty good job of pulling most of my configuration options. But some seem to have mysteriously disappeared. Unfortunately there are so many things I'm currently trying to fix on this box that I haven't had time to try to do a step by step check of what's going wrong where with xemacs. I usually set such things from .Xdefaults eg Emacs*EmacsFrame.default.attributeBackgroundPixmap: ~/aaa/bitmaps/backgroundtile.xpm Then do xrdb -load ~/.Xdefaults to start the new settings then restart Xemacs Sweet! That's what I was looking for! Is there a resource somewhere that gives an exhaustive list of the object model X uses? Most of this is in the Xemacs FAQ Figures, Thanks, Glyn. batch converting PNG icons to XPM
Hi I'm trying to convert many PNG icons (with transparency) to xpm with transparency to use as icons with application that doesn't support png (tkdesk). I tried to find a 'mogrify' or 'convert' option to keep the transparency but nothing works. every time I'm converting an image the transparent pixels becomes grey. I don't want to use the '-transparency' option because that would change all the pixels that use this color. any ideas? (of course I'm looking for a command-line application, not X...) btw, some of the png files have transparency that xpm doesn't support (xpm only supports on/off bits) so I'll use the default 127 threshold (the default when converting with gimp). Thanks in advance -- Haim

Hi, Just wondering if there was a repository somewhere where I can get xpm/png files of /usr/share/pixmaps. OK... a good bet to find the source tarball / package of a program is to check at www.THE-PROGRAM.org (where 'THE-PROGRAM' is of course the program you wish to find icons of). In my previous example that would have been www.windowmaker.org This might not work for EVERYTHING, but many major applications have a web site in the .org top-domain-level (TDL). The expression I used, source tarballs for a given package meant : the source tarball for the package you're looking for . Hope this helps, Jeff

compiling wine - xpm missing
After re-installing slink on a revamped upgraded computer (new cpu/mb, bigger hd, new graphics card, etc) I downloaded the latest wine sources (990923) and tried to build. Wine built ok, but won't run. I get the following message: OBM_CreateBitmaps Xpm support not in the binary, please install xpm and recompile. I have the following packages installed: xpm4.7, xpm4g, xpm4g-dev. The xpm.h file is found in the include path chain. (The configure scripts did NOT set the HAVE_LIBXXPM). libforms and xpm? Problems upgrading LyX
I have LyX_0.12.0 working on my pc, installed with dpkg on a debian-slink distribution. Now I'm trying to upgrade LyX to 1.0.3 starting from sources. The problem is that when configure ends running it gives the following error message: The following problems have been detected by configure. Please check the messages below before running 'make'. I checked with dpkg -l and even with dselect: those packages are installed (and LyX_0.12 is working). What does it mean? What can I do? (I tryed to say to configure where these library are, but where are they? Using the find command I could only find that there is a libforms0.88 and an xpm4.7 in /usr/doc/ and a libforms.so.0.88 in /usr/X11R6/lib/ . How can I find where they are, or where are likely to be? Problem with update-menus RXVT-XPM
I'm trying to start an rxvt with an xpm background Everything's cool, except that I have to run rxvt-xpm instead of rxvt (when did this happen, BTW? It used to be different) However, I can't get a -scale option to work. The best I can do is: rxvt-xpm -pixmap /path/to/pixmap\;100x100 Which scales it fine. However, it's the damn semicolon that's doing me in. You have to use a backslash in bash, obviously, for the stuff after it to even get to rxvt-xpm. The problem I have is in the /etc/menu files... I'm using Joost's update (update-menus) package, for keeping track of stuff. I'm trying to have a few different rxvt's started as different menu options (different as in, with different backgrounds). However, setting the command to: command=rxvt-xpm -pixmap /path/to/pixmap\;100x100 doesn't work, nor does leaving out the backslash. In both cases the geometry string isn't getting to rxvt-xpm, because it just loads the pixmap without scaling (if the rxvt is resized, one can see that it is being tiled, effectively) Is there any way to get around this? Obviously, update-menus is stripping out the backslash, or something along the way is. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] A scientific truth does not triumph by convincing A. Wait - you're saying that creating a new updated debian package for wine 1.0 would be to apply win-1.0*.diff to the .deb? The diffs for the Debian source contain nothing but the Debian directory. Thus, you can patch any version of the wine source and probably build it without any changes (other than to debian/changelog to get the version number correct). I should mention that the version of Wine currently in project/experimental can run Excel quite reliably (from whatever version of office that included word 6.0 for Win3.1).
