Google (or any search engine) may help.

I googled 'debian sound' and several potential helping sites were suggested.

Note that just giving the model of laptop does not tell anybody what
sound card you have. So, first search for a solution before asking the
list. Second, if/when you do bother the list provide more info.

Kindly proceed to http://thinkwiki.org, where a lot of useful information
about your thinkpad is there, just waiting for you to use it :)

I suggest that you subscribe yourself to the linux-thinkpad ML, and ask
there. Other T21 owners might help you better than we could, since the T21
is a very old box and some of its lore has already been lost. The address
of the ML is in thinkwiki.org.

Add deb-src to your apt-get list.
Then you can use apt-get source `package-name` to get the source of your
target package.

Didn't you ask this same question last week? (Or is this part of a

Anyway, if you're running RedHat, why in the heck do you want to use
*Debian* source files? Use SRPMs. Much simpler!!!

In similar situation, I make a list of softwares that I really need
and that are not installed, then I install the listed ones the hard
way with GNU tools. The fist step is to set up a relevant `config.site',
which is used by autotools (namely SOURCE/configure).
An alternative is to contact the root and kindly ask him to install
the missing softwares. You can ask to be the root too, namely to
install Debian on the computer and being the root.

I wouldn't use dash as my login shell, it lacks readline support which
I am relying heavily on and I'd be suprised to hear YMDV.

Dash is designed to be a POSIX compliant shell that should be run as
/bin/sh; iirc it lacks any features not necessary to achieve that goal.

Please don't be that harsh, here's another section of Siggy's musings
about early *nix days:

For short, when you don't have readline you develop a habit of writing
tiny #!/bin/sh wink scripts with the help of ed(1) (no readline either).
I've programmed quite a bit in KR C using ed(1) then.

no bad feelings

2009-08-05 Thread Oscar Corte

Hi all:

I’ve been trying to find an ISO image of Debian’s last release for version 4.0
(I think is r8).

Could somebody tell me where to find it?

Thanks in advance for any hints

I'd use http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/archive/4.0_r8/multi-arch/bt-
dvd/debian-40r8-i386-amd64-powerpc-source-DVD-1.iso.torrent.

But, you can start http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/archive/4.0_r8/ and
choose your own path from there.

Please use BitTorrent/Jigdo if possible.

Try using rsync to an rsync mirror.

I'm on dialup and often find that after a week of getting a CD a bit at

Some web browsers and FTP programs have problems with files over 2GB
(particularly if they are Windows based - filesystem size limits.)
Sometimes the download will go forward for 2GB, then into negative
numbers for the last 2GB :)

Firefox has worked for me where IE didn't, for example.

I'm using firefox 1.08 on a redhat 3 system. The download window shows a file

Here's the mirror that I'm now trying with:

I got the same results from:

I also tried ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/debian-cd/5.0.2/amd64

There is Andrea Mennucci's debdelta¹ which should about provide the
functionality of delta-rpm, however it is not very well integrated with
apt. And the deltas are stored on a non-Debian server which may not
have the greatest bandwith.

Still, for people with a slow Internet connection tracking testing or
unstable it is probably worth a try.

There are none. You can use the lenny installer to install sid or
install lenny and upgrade to sid afterwards. But you will probably not
be very happy with it if you don't know Debian (or even Linux). If you
want try out Debian, use lenny.

Then *after* you are comfortable with Debian, you might find that you want
newer upstream versions of one or more packages. If that happens, you can
migrate the whole system to Squeeze or Sid without reinstalling or you can
run a mixed system, pulling in just a few packages from Squeeze or Sid.

Good day.

Is there is a way that apt-get can be configured so that at

apt-get update

it will update its DB only with difference and not totally - thus
reducing its traffic?

I've read manual for apt-get - and did not find a answer on my
question.

Thank You for Your time.

Apt does this by default, you don't need to worry.

In addition to what is described below, today I noticed that the Last

Hi,

I am being a debian Etch user who got an Internet connection recently
wanted to download the testing version.
I could not download the jigdo files from the official site. This is
what happened

1. I went to http://www.debian.org/CD/jigdo-cd/
2. Clicked Official jigdo files for the testing distribution - DVD
- i386(which points to
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/lenny_di_rc2/i386/jigdo-dvd/ )
3. Received the following error.
Not Found
The requested URL /cdimage/lenny_di_rc2/i386/jigdo-dvd/ was not found on
this server.
4. Strangely though I was unable to download the jigdo files, I could
Search Contents of .jigdo Files and receive responses.

I thought writing about this to the maintainers would be helpful. Hope
it is useful.

Note: I substituted the lenny_di_rc2 part with weekly-builds in the
above url and tried
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-builds/i386/jigdo-dvd/. It
worked. But the files listed were Last modified on 30-Mar-2009. I was
a bit suspicious since the weekly builds can't be two weeks older, and
chose not to download.

Sure enough, using Iceweasel download it quit at 3:24AM without leaving

But googling on VMware-server-2.0.0-122956.i386.tar.gz I found and

Me too. We must be the only 2 left ;-)

But copying the URL to untitled.asc and then

wget -c -i /home/hugo/untitled.asc

doesn't get me the 530MB tar file but

login.php?product=server20

A chunk of html what the URL points to and what gets executed correctly
only when you let Iceweasel do the download. But then I can't resume
across reboots...

If you have a descent connection CD 1 is fine. If you have access to a descent
connection but you intend to install at a location that doesn't have the
greatest connection the DVD's might be better for you. CD 1 will get you a
base system installed including a desktop environment and then you will be
able to retrieve any additional packages and updates via the net.

You can chose between 32 or 64 bit. I would suggest to go with Lenny/Testing
as it is about to become the stable release by the end of the month.

Save the applet on a webserver where you can read the access log files.

Load the applet through you browser and see in the log which other files
the applet tries to load.

If the URLs in the applet has full URL references, it would not show up
in the logs - then use a sniffer.

Hi Andrei,

Thanks for your advice.

I'm following this howto;
Postfix SMTP AUTH (and TLS) HOWTO

adding SMTP AUTH

This is a routing mail server which is working here already without
problem, running virtual domain (all domains point to ONE external IP).
Incoming mails are routed to their own mail server in the same
network.Remote mail clients can download mails on their own mail
server after login. But the roaming mail clients can't send mails via
their own mail server. I'm trying to build SMTP AUTH.

Any advice which cyrus package/packages I need to installed.

Remark: Perdition is running on this routing mail server.

gkrellm : vitesse de download par seconde

2008-12-31 Thread Thierry B

Bonjour,

Y.
