Netatalk question
Greetings. I am a fairly experienced Debian user (for those of you who wish to get technical) with a question relating to Netatalk. I maintain a low security mac lab and it, for the most part, has been working fine as a file server for me. However, I have run into one large hitch; I, for some reason, am unable to have the Macs open the server at startup. It is a guest accessable shared (like I said, low security,) the computers are running OS 8.6, and the box is checked so that the shares should mount. I have no problem mounting other macintosh shares at start up and -savepassword is enabled. Thanks, Brandt Dusthimer (Please CC me as I am not on this list) __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Netatalk question
Can netatalk be used over a serial link? It appears to only support Ethernet connections. I have a Mac LCII that I'd love to hook up to a Linux box for Linux Demo Day, but I don't have any kind of Ethernet for a Mac. There is, however, a sort of a HOWTO on this, which I found at http://artoo.hitchcock.org/~flowerpt/projects/linux-netatalk/ghostscript.html The directions there are for using Ghostscript with netatalk, but I believe the directions there should work with any printer defined in your /etc/printcap. netatalk question...
I'm in the process of converting my boss to believing that Linux can act as a fast and stable file print server. Help! I've got a Compaq ProSignia something-or-other up and running just fine under 1.3.1. I've got an old LJ IIP hooked up to it, and am using lpr-ng and magicfilter to print to it... Samba (Lose95 and LoseNT) clients can file and print just fine. Macs (using netatalk, of course) can file just fine, but can't print.
