RE: [Declude.JunkMail] ORBZ gone

2002-03-21 Thread Bill Landry

We use them as one of our tests, and we catch a fair amount of junkmail with
them. Here are the tests I use on our Postfix gateway:

 bl.spamcop.net,
 orbs.dorkslayers.com,
 relays.ordb.org,
 formmail.relays.monkeys.com,
 proxies.relays.monkeys.com,
 spews.relays.osirusoft.com,
 spamhaus.relays.osirusoft.com,
 relays.osirusoft.com,
 dialups.relays.osirusoft.com,
 socks.relays.osirusoft.com,
 dnsbl.njabl.org

We have just recently installed Declude VirusPro and JunkMail Pro on our
IMail server, so we will be implementing there soon.

Regards,

Bill

Does anyone here use postfixgate? Comments on it?

DSN:Re: [Declude.JunkMail] ORBZ gone

2002-03-21 Thread smb

So who's right and who's wrong here?
ORBZ for not changing the test or Lotus for not fixing a bug in their software?

In either case we loose another decent blacklist not because of some junk
mailer fighting for the right to send junk but a software issue in one program.

This would seem be a Lotus Domino problem that should have been corrected.
As far as I can see the problem still exists. Just that ORBZ testing is not
now affecting a large number of systems.

We use SPAMCOP, MAPS RBL+, PostFixGate and SortMonster. MAPS RBL+ is the
most expensive, and from our experience the least used. PostFixGate and
SortMonster are spectacular.

I assume someone on the list is using some services from MAPS and would like

Verified by who?

When ORBS died, there were tons of rumors, many so widespread that most
people just assumed they were true, but few actual facts. Since the
ORBZ
site is no longer reachable, there isn't an easy source of reliable
information.

I know that there is discussion on the SPAM-L list about it, but has
anyone
on that list actually verified that it is true? I just didn't claim it
to
be a fact because of the ORBS incident, which took a couple weeks before
it
could be proven that ORBS was really gone. I just don't want to see
another "A friend of a friend of my brother's wife's sister in law's
favorite bartender told me that..." (which often gets written in an
E-mail
as "It is a fact that...").

Here's the email that those of you with forward sight
have been fearing since the inception of ORBZ.

As of this moment, ORBZ is shutting down. DNS zones
are going to stop resolving, the website will disappear
and mail will stop working (so furthur discussion on
this list probably won't work -- use NANAE).

I don't want to disappear in silence like ORBS, so I'll
try for as much description as possible without
compromising my own position.

I received an official court notice this afternoon to
turn over all information relation to ORBZ accounts.
This came from the 10th Judicial District court of the
State of Michigan. It appears that ORBZ may be facing
criminal charges for denial of service relating to the
Lotus Domino issue.

I was happy to try to weather any civil issues that may
have come up, and I was committed to seeing it through.
However, the threat of jail time is too much; I don't
believe in this fight quite that much.

Thank you all for all your support. I sincerely hope
that someone with the goal of carrying on the mission
of ORBZ pops up in another country with a less
foreboding legal system. Anyone who has copies of the
current zones may do with them what they wish.

For those of you stuck without good spam filtering,
please consider ORDB and SpamCop; they both provide
excellent free solutions.

It appears that ORBZ has gone the way of ORBS and died. There is a
message
claiming to be from the person who runs it that is floating around the
Internet saying that he is facing criminal charges (because ORBZ would
try
relaying with "MAIL FROM: ", which would cause Lotus
