There is a switch in the config window to let Spamreview read all subject lines. This will slow down a little bit when you open the spam- or virus folder but I have no problem with it. We've tried several times, last one two months ago, to no avail. We decided to give up and are planning to write one ourselves to include much of the needed functionality to manage white and blacklists better via context menu, and extract additional info into columns for sorting...like spamweight and sending mail server HELO/IP. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] spam review
Did anyone have any problem installing Spam Review? I'm trying to install it on a Windows 2000 Server and it tells me that it needs to update files first and the system needs to reboot before setup can run. I let it update the files, manually restart the system and try to run setup again. Setup then tells me the exact same thing, that it needs to update files first. Am I missing something? Is the fact that I did not let the program restart the system have an affect? RE: [Declude.JunkMail] spam review
> Can you give me the syntax for that? Assuming you have configured 2 weight tests like WEIGHT10 WEIGHT20 in your global.cfg file and you want to hold on 20 points: Set the two actions WEIGHT10 SUBJECT [spam%WEIGHT%] WEIGHT20 HOLD in your $default$.junkmail file. (Note the space after the "]" !) This will add a "[spamXX] " to the subject line of every message collecting at least 10 points. Any massage above 20 points will be moved to the hold folder. So you could instead have: XINHEADER X-Sender: %MAILFROM% [%REMOTEIP%] which would produce the exact same header, but using "X-Sender:" instead. Declude doesn't use "X-Sender" as there are a number of other programs that do, so you might otherwise occasionally end up with multiple (different) X-Sender: headers. -Scott --- [This E-mail was scanned for viruses by Declude Virus (http://www.declude.com)] --- This E-mail came from the Declude.JunkMail mailing list. Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review kill.lst problem question
>We would rather you use >the mailfrom actually, but I do not know how you would integrate >this. It's the same thing. The return address ("MAIL FROM" from the SMTP envelope), which is the only address that IMail's kill.let can use, does not show up by default in the headers. Declude does have the XSENDER option to add it in the headers. The XSENDER option adds a line in the format "X-Declude-Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [192.168.114.12]". The "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" in that header is exactly the same as the %MAILFROM% variable. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review kill.lst problem question
Oops. My bad. I had the XSENDER commented out. I just uncommented it and set it to ON. I'll let you know in a little while when I get some junkmail. Thanks, Todd -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Tom Schwarz (by way of "R. Scott Perry" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>) Sent: Wednesday, July 31, 2002 9:17 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review kill.lst problem question Please reply to [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you are having problems with adding to kill.lst please review the following and let me know if this is or is not your problem. Per Scott Perry's Instructions, I look for "X-Declude-Sender:" to locate the Sender of the email. The only way this will be included in the files I am looking at is if you have this option set in Declude: "XSENDER ON" If this option is missing or set to OFF in Declude you will have have a "X-Declude-Sender:" entry in your email files and the Add to Kill will not work. My question to you is: How is your XSENDER option set? Note From Scott: If the "XSENDER ON" option is used. Without that, there is no way of knowing for sure what the return address is without looking at the IMail log files for the "MAIL FROM:" line. --- [This E-mail was scanned for viruses by Declude Virus (http://www.declude.com)] --- [This E-mail was scanned for viruses by Declude Virus (http://www.declude.com)] --- This E-mail came from the Declude.JunkMail mailing list. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review Update v1.0.7
I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear. I agree with the option to remove blocks of emails from the same sender. What I don't agree with is have SpamReview check on startup if the address has been deleted in the past, and deleting the message based on that. I think that is what we have Junkmail for in the first place. This last feature seems amazingly close to what we we all purchased Junkmail to do in the first place. Just add it to your blacklist. I think the better feature is one that has been discussed before, an option to add the return email address to the junkmail blacklist. Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review Update v1.0.7
Hey Tom, I have a suggestion... :) On your spam review software.. can you have a button so we can sort by sent address... then we can select all of those and delete a block at a time... I have noticed when I am cleaning it out.. i have a number of spams which have the same return email address... once I look at one of these.. I know all the rest are spam... so it would be easier to do a Shift-click and select them all.. if they were sorted by return email address... Have I stated this with out confusing anyone... RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review and Kill File
Tom, I would want 2 separate button options. 1. Button to the delete & Kill list. 2. Button to the Delete folder only. Not 100% for sure but a warning in the documentation about having the %MAILFROM% variable in your header as Scott was stating in a previous post. Does this address the issue of identifying the "real" from address that we would want to add to the Kill list? I like the idea of the Kill list vs. Declude Blacklist if it saves on the CPU. However, I would want to be more certain it was a "real" from address and not a bogus one. Like the earlier post... most of those from addresses are bogus. -Don -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Tom Schwarz Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2002 7:15 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review and Kill File Let's talk about the IMail "kill.lst" file for just a minute. The correct address to use in the IMail Kill List is the "return address" or "MAIL FROM:" address, which may or may not be the same as the "From:" address in the E-mail headers (in the "D" file). Declude JunkMail has a %MAILFROM% variable that can add the return address to a header (such as "XINHEADER X-Sender: %MAILFROM%"). -Scott --- [This E-mail was scanned for viruses by Declude Virus (http://www.declude.com)] --- This E-mail came from the Declude.JunkMail mailing list. I use the "D" file for the list so I think I have the right email address. Is this correct Scott? This was my thought. If you delete the email you are saying it is spam. Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review and Kill File
Tom: I think a button option would be fine. Here is my reasoning - many of the from addresses are bogus anyway so I do not bother with putting many of them on the kill.lst very often. I have put from addresses on the kill list only to see the spammer change his from address within the hour. I go through 1000 messages on some days in the spam folder and if I had to hit another confirmation button it would just slow me down. Thanks for all the hard work. Reply to: Tom Schwarz Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review and Kill File on Wednesday 6:15:27 PM A button would be great. The problem as I see it is making sure it was the real SMTP %MailFrom% variable. I use: XINHEADER X-Note: SMTP Real-From: %MAILFROM% But maybe the best way for you to do this is take into consideration the 'D' file that is being viewed than take the value rom the 'Q' file of the same name, e.g. line with : S<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sometimes you could, I suppose, make it for the whole address or a whole domain.. or simply popup a dialog so the string could be edited before saving to kill.lst. -- Roger Heath - Copy of Original Message(s): - T> Let's talk about the IMail "kill.lst" file for just a minute. I second this requested feature about adding to the Kill List. Great Idea! Also, I like the idea of sending to Spam Cop vs. the sender because will surely have a lot of bounces. Also, I think this is great you wrote the app and will not mind sending a donation to you. Keep up the great job. Yes, actually, I would love to be able to just forward/redirect the message to my SPAMCOP mailbox. I currently do that automatically with Declude for Weight 20 and above. Then SPAMCOPY will figure out who REALLY is to notify - because sending it back to the originator in 99 out of 100 times will result in a bounce. The sending email address is never valid. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review Program
Dan, v1.0.1 is now available on the web. v1.0.1 allows you to shut off the delete confirmation (look in settings). v1.0.1 shows the subject. Great idea on the Hold button. Will look into this. I know I need to work on the sort. I would like to let you sort it multiple ways. If you resize the form, the message body will resize but resizing all the windows is more difficult so that will have to wait for a future version. Great idea though. I will add it to the list. Keep the great ideas coming. Thanks, Tom -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Dan Spangenberg Sent: Sunday, January 27, 2002 11:35 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review Program Great program? Are you ready for some feedback and a few ideas/suggestions? I would like a way to shut off the delete confirmation. It would be nice to be able to resize the windows. I like to see the subject line and it is always down a ways so you have to scroll to see it. A button to move to a "hold" directory in addition to the "move to que" and "delete" buttons could be useful. Also what is the sort order meant to be? Mine doesn't appear to have much of a sort order. By date might be good. This is a really a great utility and works very well. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Spam Review Program
Great program? Are you ready for some feedback and a few ideas/suggestions? I would like a way to shut off the delete confirmation. It would be nice to be able to resize the windows. I like to see the subject line and it is always down a ways so you have to scroll to see it. A button to move to a "hold" directory in addition to the "move to que" and "delete" buttons could be useful. Also what is the sort order meant to be? Mine doesn't appear to have much of a sort order. By date might be good. This is a really a great utility and works very well.
