Re: Delphi XE4 Future
It is great to see you guys are still monitoring this forum, XE4 is starting to become something to work with. Firemonkey has a long way to go before it achieves the stability we know in the VLC. I pull my hair out sometimes working with the things but slowly it seems to be coming together. I'm not opposed to learning new languages but find myself not using Delphi as much as I used to now that web applications have become my primary focus and I am using PHP. XE4 is probably a good place to start , avoiding the frustrations from XE2. Simple things like copy and paste were not working in the Firemonkey GUI. XE4 is definitely something to look at if you want to make good mobile apps, it seems they have focused a lot on iPhone and iPad deployment and I must say it is easy to get a hello world system going, I'm not sure about the real world apps, but it is worth playing with on a trial version to test it. You will need a Mac computer to run the debugging environment. RE: Delphi XE4 Future
There are seven of us doing PC software development and I'm the only one with Delphi experience. Everyone does VB.NET and a little C# so the last standing Delphi application gets converted to VB.NET or C# once the Windows 8 Crusade (making sure all of our applications work in Win 8) is over the first lull occurs. Hopefully the lull doesn't occur for some time. My SCADA system in Delphi is long gone and several other small single purpose applications are all but forgotten. One of these days the company will get beyond Windows, but not now. Hi Everyone It seems that Delphi (pascal) is having a revival, I heard that Embacadero are supplying free licensing to educational institutions in our country South Africa and that they have a hand in the curriculum for computer science as from next year. I'm not really sure who is monitoring the posts on Delphi-Talk but here goes, anyone have any thoughts about my optimism. It would be good to hear who is still taking part in this email list. Re: Delphi XE4 Future
Yes, Embarcadero is developing Delphi steadily. It will soon become the premier system for developing cross platform apps. Hopefully they will tackle Linux in a sustainable way soon. The language is not likely to re-take its previous position in education, though. Too much tunnel vision and other bias in that sector.
