[Bug 38322] Re: Epiphany always forgets window position between launches

2006-04-06 Thread Carthik Sharma
I can confirm this behaviour in Dapper latest.
Not just epiphany, but also other apps such a gedit that use a .xml file to
save state do this.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=151775
is where I found the difference between apps that use xml files and gconf to
save state.

Filing this as a desktop bugs seeing as it affects gnome terminal too.

[Bug 38334] Annoying kernel output caused by hald-addon-storage

2006-04-06 Thread Ehsan Akhgari
Public bug reported:

Affects: hal (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
There is a problem in Breezy's hal code which affects machines with some
optic drives (including TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532M DVD burner on my
Compaq V2000 laptop), which causes the machine to output error messages
such as the below from the kernel to log files and text console (when
it's active):

ATAPI device hdc:
Error: Not ready -- (Sense key=0x02)
  Incompatible medium installed -- (asc=0x30, ascq=0x00)
The failed Read Cd/Dvd Capacity packet command was:
  25 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

This happens only when no media is in the drive, and as soon as you
insert a CD/DVD, the problem is gone. This happens on other distro's as
well (namely Fedora, see:
http://www.humboldt.edu/~te8/misc/hpzd8230us.html). The drive works
quite well otherwise.

We believe this problem is related to hald, namely, the hald-addon-
storage module, which polls the drive for media information without
checking its status first. There is a thread in Ubuntu Forums on this
issue: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=64388

I have submitted the solution I've found (and has worked for me) at:
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=876001postcount=13

Perhaps you could take a look at it, and decide if you can incorporate
it (or some other fix) into Ubuntu.

Thanks for your consideration!

[Bug 33473] Re: Network not up in time, gaim fails

2006-04-06 Thread John Nilsson
Ok, I removed the dns line from /etc/network/interfaces (don't konw where I got
it from...) and added the backup nameservers to /etc/resolv.conf.

I hade som random issues when booting the computer, so the results aren't
reliable, but now gaim worked directly.

My nameserver is started by this line in /etc/inittab:
SV:123456:respawn:/usr/bin/svscanboot

and directyl after boot this time I checked the server:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo svstat /var/lib/svscan/*
Password:
/var/lib/svscan/dnscache: up (pid 9430) 5 seconds
/var/lib/svscan/tinydns-private: up (pid 9427) 5 seconds
/var/lib/svscan/tinydns-public: up (pid 9426) 5 seconds

so it appears to be running.

I'll try to reboot when commenting out the other dns-servers from resolv.conf
again to see if it was random chance or if it was the dns-nameservers line that
was the culprit.

reliable enough to enable saving by default. (indeed, it's quite buggy). Anyway
I agree the save-on-close thingy looks a bit weird.

You can activate saving through ftp by adding ftp to the list of supported
protocols in the gconf key at
/apps/gedit-2/preferences/editor/save/writable_vfs_schemes

You can also have a look at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=331072
which is somewhat related.

[Bug 38383] Make Yelp front page clearer and more user friendly

2006-04-06 Thread Matthew East
Public bug reported:

Affects: yelp (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Thanks to the awesome work of Don Scorgie, we have a patch to make the
front page of Yelp more user friendly for Ubuntu users. The patch does
three things:

1. puts the Ubuntu documents at the top
2. changes the order of the Ubuntu documents slightly
3. adds a title and some descriptions to the existing categories of other
documentation.

I'll attach it to this bug. It introduces 5 new translatable strings.

 .
   * Add debian/patches/51_ipp_log_severity_info.dpatch: Drop successful IPP
messages to log level 'debug' and unsuccessful ones to 'info'. This is a
more generic approach to avoid ridiculously huge logs due to polling by
 gnome-cups-icon and friends.
   * Drop debian/patches/51_dont_log_ipp_printer_query.dpatch, obsoleted by
 above patch.
   * Add debian/patches/52_default_log_level_warning.dpatch: Raise default log

[Bug 38243] Re: Dapper: Window properties no longer has an option for Super

2006-04-06 Thread Marius Gedminas
You mean to say the Window properties dialog checks whether I have a Super
modifier in my keymap, and shows/hides that option automatically? That would
be a very sensible thing to do.

I have an extra key on my European ThinkPad keyboard, between LShift and Z.
I've mapped it to Super_L with xmodmap:

  xmodmap -e 'keycode 94 = Super_L Super_L' -e 'clear mod4' -e 'add mod4 =
Super_L'

I added a shell script with this xmodmap invocation late in my gnome session.
It could be that I do not exactly get the correct result: xev shows that
Super_L autorepeats, while Alt_L/Ctrl_L don't. OTOH xev shows the state as
0x40 if I press any other key while holding down Super_L.

If I try to define a key binding in gnome-keybinding-properties, I see Super_L
immediatelly -- the dialog doesn't treat it as a modifier and doesn't give me
an opportunity to press an additional key. This used to work (and I still have
a number of Mod4foo mappings) a couple of Ubuntu versions ago, although I do
not remember if I used the same xmodmap hack, or my own hacked xkb keymap (that
stopped working after upstream X.org keymaps got reorganized).

I might have to carve a custom xkb keymap again.

In the meanwhile, I suspect you could reproduce the odd state of two
simultaneously selected mutually exclusive radio buttons by selecting a keymap
with a Super key, choosing it as the window drag modifier, and then choosing a
keymap without a Super key.

[Bug 38065] Re: error with recieving german umlauts over ICQ protocol

2006-04-06 Thread Mark Doliner
I get the feeling this is not a bug, but just general suckiness of the ICQ
protocol. I don't believe there is any way to determine what character
set/encoding the other client is using, and in general it is NOT UTF-8. If
there is a popular encoding other than UTF-8 that is used for German text
(ISO-8859-1?), I would try putting that in the account editor.

[Bug 24122] Re: Evolution exchange calendar broken after upgrade

2006-04-06 Thread Fred Blaise
I am still running Hoary. However, this problem seems to have dissapeared,
maybe after some upgrades. Didn't keep track of this bug, sorry about that.

My calendar works now, just the Global Contact stuff isn't, but that's another
issue.

The bug can be closed, or rejected. I don't have a close option in the
combobox. Feel free to do it.

[Bug 38415] Selecting text in a cell doesn't work

2006-04-06 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnumeric (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Gnumeric 1.6.3, Ubuntu Dapper

1. Enter some text in a cell.
2. Drag from one part of the text to another.

What should happen:
* The text between those two points should be selected.

What actually happens:
* The insertion point moves.

Selection works properly in the formula bar, which then produces a
misleading appearance in the cell, as it shows no selection but
continues blinking its insertion point.

[Bug 38404] Re: /usr/sbin/update-gconf-defaults errors on installing new gnome-session

2006-04-06 Thread J
that was fast :)
You guys RULE!
thanks, it turned out a ptython module got compiled bad, so my whole gnome got
messed up..
I removed the package by editing postinst prerm postrm script to not update
gconf-defaults, then continued te broken upgrade. It then turned out a python
module wouldn't istall also, so I did apt-get install --reinstall
python2.4-minimal, then all the insallation went like a charm. Cheers!!

 - updated to not ship on of the changes shipped with 06_toc-with-desc.patch
   * debian/patches/06_toc-with-desc.patch:
 - patch by Don Scorgie, description by Matthew East, does three things:
