Hi, and thanks for taking the time to file this problem. Is this on 6.06, on an i386 platform? I can''t reproduce it here can you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash ? It will rebuild the entire gdm package, so you'd be better of reinstalling it from the the repos when you're done with the backtrace. I'm not sure how you can build just gdmsetup. [Bug 44874] Re: auto smbfs mount in /etc/fstab causes hald hang at boot
If worked here - at least for now (I restarted the system a few times without problems). In my opinion, this work-around also points to a timing issue between starting the ethernet network, starting the samba system and mouting the network shares. Most of most of the above mentioned suggestions influence the point in time when a specific service is started: putting smbfs in /etc/modules: early in the boot process mounting shares in /etc/rc.local: late in the boot process pre-up sleep 5 in /etc/network/interfaces: give something else more time to finish This would also be consistent with my observation that the /etc/modules variant sometimes work and sometimes it doesn't. My guess: This problem is a hick-up in the multi-threaed booting process introduced sometime during the latest Dapper pre-releases. -- auto smbfs mount in /etc/fstab causes hald hang at boot https://launchpad.net/bugs/44874 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 48887] Re: Zooming/Text functions cause 100% CPU Utilization possible memory leak?
I experience the same problem. I did some analysis with valgrind and noticed that the problem isn't dia itself, but the text-layout library 'libpango'. On every redraw event some pieces of font information are gathered by that library, but won't be cleaned up again so that dia (and any other program that uses certain functions of libpango) takes more and more memory until it has to be killed because there is no more space left ( so called memory leak). This explains the OOMs the original poster experienced and why it only happens when text objects are involved. -- Zooming/Text functions cause 100% CPU Utilization possible memory leak? https://launchpad.net/bugs/48887 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 49452] Re: [Bug 49452] Re: Dapper - nautilus freezes when opening a remote folder
This is really weird, my 'Network Servers' bookmark to my SSH remote account is now working fine with nautilus. Just 5 mins. ago the same folder was causing nautilus to freeze as it had been since I upgraded to dapper. There are two things that I did that I imagine could possibly be related between when it was freezing and when it started working: * Successfully accessed a remote account over FTP with nautilus * Removed all my nautilus bookmarks to remote folders. I had 3 bookmarks to remote SSH folders in nautilus 'Places' instead of in 'Network Servers'. It is now working fine also if I launch nautilus on the command line and pass it a remote SSH folder. I tried bookmarking the SSH folder in nautilus places again, then logged in and logged out, but this has not reproduced the freeze. It works fine. I also tried unmounting the SSH volume, then accessing it again by the Places bookmark, and it still works fine. Weird. I was surprised to see this unmount option, does nautilus keep connections to all my remote folders whenever I have the remote folder icon on the desktop, even though the icon remains when I log out and log in? [Bug 49452] Re: Dapper - nautilus freezes when opening a remote folder
Nope, I've managed to produce the freeze again. Made 'Places' bookmarks to my 3 remote SSH folders, unmounted all 3 volumes in 'Network Servers', logged out and logged in again, tried to open one of the remote bookmarks, nautilus freezes. I then accessed the remote folder by going to 'Connect to Server' and it worked, and after that the Places bookmarks were working fine again. But try to access a seperate Places bookmark (for a different SSH account) and nautilus freezes. Access THAT bookmark by Connect to Server, it works, unmount the volume, try accessing it by the Places bookmark again, it works. But after a while the Places bookmarks will stop working and will freeze nautilus again. I'm not describing it very well and the behaviour seems inconsistent and confuses me, but it certainly seems there's a problem with nautilus in dapper concerning at least remote SSH folders being bookmarked as Places, though I think the same folders are fine if they aren't bookmarked as Places but are accessed with Connect to Server. If I keep all my remote folders mounted as remote volumes and don't bookmark them in nautilus then I seem to be able to access them multiple times, log out, restart etc. and get no problems. -- Dapper - nautilus freezes when opening a remote folder https://launchpad.net/bugs/49452 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Another thing (perhaps this should be a separate bug)... when I have remote volume icons on my desktop for these SSH folders they remain after log outs and restarts, and have an 'unmount' option. Is nautilus automatically opening SSH connections and mounting these volumes when I log in? So, to summarize: * hal knows nothing about the ZIP drive. * The system does not know about the ZIP drive after a clean boot. * The kernel recognizes the drive properly and you can manually mount it after 'modprobe ppa' Is that correct? If so, does hal see the ZIP drive after sudo /etc/dbus-1/event.d/20hal restart ? If so, then the problem is somewhere in the hal/udev communication. Also, can you please do a clean boot, then do sudo udevmonitor -e then do 'sudo modprobe ppa' on another console, and copypaste the udevmonitor output here? (Assuming that there is no /dev/* device for your ZIP drive before loading ppa). [Bug 48118] do not show unmounted nonremovable drives
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pmount This is stupid. If there is an icon in my Computer:// it should be mountable. Every user who tries this to access the normally not configured vfat partitions from former systems gets smacked with the super usability to use extra tools or console. Therefore, pmount has to mount non-removable media on request. [Bug 48249] Re: Low disk space notification doesn't works with memory sticks (pendrives)
I specifically disabled the warning for non-system drives since many users cried out loudly that this was too annoying. The idea of this warning is to give a hint why your system is suddenly acting strange, which happens on a full root partition. This can't happen on removable drives, though. I think the current solution is reasonable, therefore I'm closing this bug. It might become better in the future when this warning becomes configurable (see bug 33967). ** Changed in: gnome-volume-manager (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Martin Pitt Status: Unconfirmed = Rejected -- Low disk space notification doesn't works with memory sticks (pendrives) https://launchpad.net/bugs/48249 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
