[Bug 137707] Re: Segfault when internet connection is turned off

2007-09-06 Thread Nicolas Deschildre
Hi!
Thanks for the bugreport!

In order to help us pinpoint the problem, could you give us some more
additionnal information :
- What kind of music were you listening to? I mean, local music or internet
radio? ^^
- Could you give us the steps required to reproduce the bug? This will help us
to see what's wrong.

Thanks!

[Bug 137718] Excessive CPU usage of /usr/lib/xscreensaver/ifs

2007-09-06 Thread Christoph Rauch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Symptom:

The screensaver module IFS does (to my information) not use 3D
acceleration, yet on my old 500MHz machine it ran faster than today on
my 2GHz machine. I see that new features (changing colors) were added,
but that can not account for a 80% CPU usage in window mode (rather
small window).

Something has gone wrong, I think.

More information:

I did an strace, but do not know if this is normal as I never had the
incentive to do one before.

[Bug 137722] Gimp crashes due to failed assertion on startup (or shortly after).

2007-09-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Since the last update, Gimp crashes with the next error message when
started, or shortly thereafter:

gimp: /build/buildd/libcairo-1.4.2/src/cairo.c:91: _cairo_error: Assertion
`status CAIRO_STATUS_SUCCESS status = CAIRO_STATUS_INVALID_INDEX' failed.
gimp: terminated: Aborted

I see this is something to do with libcairo, but AFAIK that package has
not been touched by the update.

I try to attach ldd output and dkpg.log.

[Bug 137707] Re: Segfault when internet connection is turned off

 - What kind of music were you listening to? I mean, local music or internet
 radio? ^^
I cant listen 'internet radio' when i disconnect from the internet =) It was a
local music.

- Could you give us the steps required to reproduce the bug? This will help us
to see what's wrong.
When i have connection to the internet i have no problem. But when i missed
payment for the internet, my provider disconnected me from internet but despite
all this, I had access to the LAN.

To produce this bug, try to disconnect from the internet but stay
connected to the LAN... or something like this...

And if it can help you, in my rhytmbox is enabled this plugins:
1. song lyrics
2. cover art (i have segfault 4 times — 2 times when i listen song with
preloaded 'cover art' and 2 times without)

[Bug 137625] Re: gedit crashes on a simple text file of 6000 lines

2007-09-06 Thread Tim
Here's the information:

- the version of ubuntu you are using
= 2.6.20-16-generic, Ubuntu 7.04
- the version of python-gnome2 (as seen in the synaptic package manager)
= 2.18.0-ubuntu1
- the version of the libgnome2-0 (as seen in the synaptic package manager)
= .18.0-ubuntu1
Can you tell us if you have upgraded from another version of ubuntu, or if it
is a fresh install?
Installed as Drapper, upgraded to edgy, feist via the update-manager.

In Edgy the same file opened without problems.
May this be a problem with some plug-in?

Thanks for looking at this.

2007-09-06 Thread David Jaša
This change changes Deskbar from mature and usable application to rough
developer preview from user's point of view. In my opinion, Ubuntu
should stick with older, more polished, versions of software, if new
versions break UI (the same case is file roller's bug #13199).

Ubuntu maintainers, please go through comments at upstream bug and
consider shipping older version in gutsy.

Chris is right. This bug is *not* a duplicate of bug #67164.

For me the specific problem is that evince does not use the default
paper tray as set in gnome-cups-manager. The evince print dialog says
printer default, which may be the hardware default, but it sure is not
the default set in gnome-cups-manager. Other applications do the right
thing and respect that default.

Please set this bug to a different status. It *is* valid.

[Bug 137707] Re: Segfault when internet connection is turned off

2007-09-06 Thread Nicolas Deschildre
Lol dumb me :)

So now our goal is to understand under which conditions does exactly rythmbox
crash. As you can expect, lots of people use it without problems when they are
not connected to Internet. I have just tried, no problem.
So it must happens under specific conditions. And we have to find out.

So here are the steps you are doing : you are offline, you are just launching
rythmbox, click on play, then you just wait, and it will crash? No other
interaction with rythmbox?
If this is the case, could you try to disable the lyrics plugin (as it is not
enabled by default) and tell me if crashes are still happening offline?

2007-09-06 Thread Nicolas Deschildre
Ok before going deep, let's try something simple : update and upgrade feisty :)
It will download the list of the last updates available and then install them.
In order to do that, go to the synaptic package manager, click on Reload or
update at the left of the toolbar (i'm guessing the name from my french
localization) then click upgrade just at the right.

The problem sounds like you have a mismatch between two librairies
(which shouldn't have occured) so maybe a simple upgrade will do the
trick.

If the experts who wrote the code do not know how to handle the problem,

[Bug 137737] [Gutsy] session isn't locked after resume

2007-09-06 Thread unggnu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

I think this is a security risk and gnome has a great option for this. It is a
good idea to lock screen on suspend/hibernate only if people want it. Everybody
who enables screen saver locking wants to lock screen on suspend/hinbernate too.
The easiest solution for this is to enable the gconf option
/apps/gnome-power-manager/lock_use_screensaver_settings per default.
So everybody who needs no protection and don't want any password dialog are
happy and the others who need security are happy too and there is no need for
an extra option.

[Bug 104954] Bug exists in Dapper too

2007-09-06 Thread Tero Karvinen
This problem also exists in 6.06 LTS Dapper.

A bypass is to view the file in xpdf, which replaces unknown fonts with
those it can render correctly. I think PDF standard requires viewers to
have some fonts, so those fonts are not embedded by default. Because of
this, a lot of pdf:s are shown incorrectly.

Bug #96662 ugly fonts in some documents in evince seems similar to
this bug.

2007-09-06 Thread unggnu
I can confirm this. The same behavior still happens in Gutsy. It looks
unintuitive and gives an impression that operation hasn't worked out.
Since gnome panle user switcher is enabled by default in Gutsy a gdm theme with
a user list should be enabled by default. If this shows logged in users it
would be great and makes more sense.

[Bug 106639] gdm never starts in Ubuntu Feisty

2007-09-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I upgraded from Ubuntu Edgy .. to Ubuntu Feisty Beta Today ...

When I restarted my machine , I don't see a splash screen. I only see a
round icon showing that the machine is loading.

I then stopped the gdm service and used kdm instead.

kdm login manager then logs me into gnome without a problem.

I have always had a crash at login using my default ubuntu login . The
system has always reverted to the default gnome login manager under
Edgy.

In this case I no longer see a crash but an hourglass icon that never
ends ..

2007-09-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS on an HP Omnibook 6100 (Pentium III, 512M).
Two times in three days, the screen saver has frozen and the entire
system hangs. Not sure if the screen saver is freezing because of the
system hang, or vice versa. When the hang occurs, an image of the
screen saver still appears on the laptop screen. I'm also logged in
remotely to the laptop via ssh at the time of the hang and the remote
session becomes unresponsive. The screen saver I'm using is Random,
and it's set to kick in after 10 minutes of inactivity.

Tried hitting ctrl-alt-backspace w/o success. No response. Also tried
alt-F2. Nothing. Eventually, had to bring down laptop hard and reboot.

[Bug 137752] Huge memory leak (about 1MB/s) selecting text

2007-09-06 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Open any PDF and select some text by dragging around with left mouse
button pressed down. Evince starts eating memory about 1MB/s (or perhaps
a bit slower). I regognized the problem after an evince instance with a
8 page PDF file was consuming 1.5 GB of virtual memory and system
started to swap badly. If I never select any text, no memory is leaked.

This might be because of bug #75894 as I've also gs-esp instead of gs-
gpl.

[Bug 116643] screensaver activates despite mouse events (Opera, flash)

2007-09-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When using a flash plugin in Opera, the screensaver (standard Gnome) will
activate even though mouse events occur.
Once the screen starts dimming, click-events are no longer passed to the flash
plugin.
One has to leave the plugin area with the mouse to stop the screensaver/the
dimming.
After that, you need to do the usual re-enter the plugin area and 'click to
activate this control', before the plugin accepts mouse events again.
While with youtube, loosing mouse clicks is not critical, try to play a flash
game this way... ;-)

How to reproduce:
1. You might want to set your gnome screensaver to 1 min.
2. Go to a site using flash (e.g., youtube)
3. Keep the mouse inside the plugin area. Mouse events shouldn't matter.
4. After 1 min, the screen starts dimming
5. The plugin no longer accepts mouse events
6. Leave the plugin area to stop the dimming.

Using:
Ubuntu Feisty
opera 9.20-20070409.6
flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.31.0.2ubuntu1

Also installed:
swf-player 0.3.6-2.1
libflash-mozplugin 0.4.13-9ubuntu1

Thanks,
Cruncher

[Bug 118421] file roller extracts a .zip file, causes nautilus/desktop to hang when accessing folder

2007-09-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm using Ubuntu 6.06.

I opened a zip file, TaskCoach-0.64.0.zip, browsed a few of the files,
and went to extract the folder. I extracted the folder to my home
folder. I extracted it with either the 'All Files' or 'Selected Files'
option, but I think it was 'All Files'. That was the only option I
touched. I went to view the files in Places Home Folder, nautilus
loaded with no file icons and was unresponsive. I went to close it and
had to Force Quit. Nautilus closed, and then reopen with no dialogs. It
was still unresponsive. I when to the System Monitor to End Process,
nautilus again closed and reopen. At this point I noticed that it was
continually allocating more RAM, so I did Stop Process.

At this point I opened the Terminal and navigated to the extracted
folder, all of the folders contents appear to be there. I open one of
the files and it appeared valid.

So I decided to try extracting it again, this time to the desktop to see
what would happen. I believe I extracted one file using 'Selected Files'
to the Desktop. When I tried to go to the desktop, none of my files
showed up, just the background. The mouse cursor is the standard busy
cursor. From what the Terminal says, the file is there, and I can access
it. I've saved the zip file in my home folder in-case it proves useful.

I will leave my computer running. If there is anything I can do that
would be useful in figuring out what is going on, Id like to help. Does
anyone know what might be going on?
