[Bug 137718] Excessive CPU usage of /usr/lib/xscreensaver/ifs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver Symptom: The screensaver module IFS does (to my information) not use 3D acceleration, yet on my old 500MHz machine it ran faster than today on my 2GHz machine. This change changes Deskbar from mature and usable application to rough developer preview from user's point of view. Lol dumb me :) So now our goal is to understand under which conditions does exactly rythmbox crash. As you can expect, lots of people use it without problems when they are not connected to Internet. I have just tried, no problem. So it must happens under specific conditions. And we have to find out. So here are the steps you are doing : you are offline, you are just launching rythmbox, click on play, then you just wait, and it will crash? No other interaction with rythmbox? Ok before going deep, let's try something simple : update and upgrade feisty :) It will download the list of the last updates available and then install them. In order to do that, go to the synaptic package manager, click on Reload or update at the left of the toolbar (i'm guessing the name from my french localization) then click upgrade just at the right. [Bug 106639] gdm never starts in Ubuntu Feisty
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I upgraded from Ubuntu Edgy .. to Ubuntu Feisty Beta Today ... When I restarted my machine , I don't see a splash screen. I only see a round icon showing that the machine is loading. I then stopped the gdm service and used kdm instead. kdm login manager then logs me into gnome without a problem. I have always had a crash at login using my default ubuntu login . The system has always reverted to the default gnome login manager under Edgy. In this case I no longer see a crash but an hourglass icon that never ends .. below is a snap shot of my system config: sudo lspci -vv Password: 00:00.0 Memory controller: nVidia Corporation CK804 Memory Controller (rev a3) Subsystem: ABIT Computer Corp. You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS on an HP Omnibook 6100 (Pentium III, 512M). Two times in three days, the screen saver has frozen and the entire system hangs. I'm also logged in remotely to the laptop via ssh at the time of the hang and the remote session becomes unresponsive. The screen saver I'm using is Random, and it's set to kick in after 10 minutes of inactivity. Tried hitting ctrl-alt-backspace w/o success. No response. Also tried alt-F2. Nothing. [Bug 116643] screensaver activates despite mouse events (Opera, flash)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When using a flash plugin in Opera, the screensaver (standard Gnome) will activate even though mouse events occur. Once the screen starts dimming, click-events are no longer passed to the flash plugin. One has to leave the plugin area with the mouse to stop the screensaver/the dimming. After that, you need to do the usual re-enter the plugin area and 'click to activate this control', before the plugin accepts mouse events again. While with youtube, loosing mouse clicks is not critical, try to play a flash game this way... ;-) How to reproduce: 1. You might want to set your gnome screensaver to 1 min. 2. Go to a site using flash (e.g., youtube) 3. Keep the mouse inside the plugin area. Mouse events shouldn't matter. 4. After 1 min, the screen starts dimming 5. The plugin no longer accepts mouse events 6. Leave the plugin area to stop the dimming. [Bug 118421] file roller extracts a .zip file, causes nautilus/desktop to hang when accessing folder
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm using Ubuntu 6.06. I opened a zip file, TaskCoach-0.64.0.zip, browsed a few of the files, and went to extract the folder. I extracted the folder to my home folder. I extracted it with either the 'All Files' or 'Selected Files' option, but I think it was 'All Files'. That was the only option I touched. I went to view the files in Places Home Folder, nautilus loaded with no file icons and was unresponsive. I went to close it and had to Force Quit. Nautilus closed, and then reopen with no dialogs. It was still unresponsive. I when to the System Monitor to End Process, nautilus again closed and reopen. At this point I noticed that it was continually allocating more RAM, so I did Stop Process. At this point I opened the Terminal and navigated to the extracted folder, all of the folders contents appear to be there. I open one of the files and it appeared valid. So I decided to try extracting it again, this time to the desktop to see what would happen. I believe I extracted one file using 'Selected Files' to the Desktop. When I tried to go to the desktop, none of my files showed up, just the background. The mouse cursor is the standard busy cursor. From what the Terminal says, the file is there, and I can access it. I've saved the zip file in my home folder in-case it proves useful. I will leave my computer running. If there is anything I can do that would be useful in figuring out what is going on, Id like to help.
