[Bug 140881] Important error in french gdm translation

2007-09-19 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Public bug reported:

In the french Ubuntu version, there is a very bad important error in
translation :

When copying a file over another that have the same name, Ubuntu ask if
it must be overwrited or not.

In the english ubuntu version, we have two choices : Skip or Replace
In the french ubuntu version, the choices are : Ignorer ou Remplacer ( this is
equivalent to ignore or replace, this almost means the same thing in that
position )

French people will probably hesitate and don't know what to do because
the given choices finally mean the same things. So this can easily lead
to data loss if people doesn't know what to do. The good translation
should be :

Conserver ou Remplacer or Annuler ou Remplacer or
Sauter ou Remplacer

[Bug 4584] Re: Remember last choice when switching sessions

More complete idea : the default session question could be asked just
once, but could be changed at any time by checking the good one in the
list on the welcome screen ( it could be possible to check the default
session ).

In that way, the welcome screen adapt himself automatically to the user,
but can still be configured in another way if needed, and stop asking
questions that the user doesn't need to answer.

[Bug 140914] Experimental plugin Mail to meeting in Evolution doesn't work?

2007-09-19 Thread Anders Lund
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-plugins-experimental

I'm not totally sure about how this plugin is supposed to work, but to
me it seems like it's somewhat broken.

Running Evolution 2.12.0, Ubuntu Gutsy.

In Evolution Mail i choose an email, right click on it, and select
Convert to meeting. This gives me a pop-up with the possibility to
choose which calendar I would like to have as destination. I typically
select Personal, and click on Ok. Then it seems to stop. I would
think that the next step would be to have an new event pop-up, to give
me the possibility to fill in date, time, etc. However I'm not sure if
this is the way it is supposed to work. At least no new event/meeting is
created in my Personal calendar, so it seems that this plugin is broken.

Not a very critical bug, but I've long waited for this kind of
functionality. Convert to task works fine, but it would be nice to be
able to create events from mails as well. (Or be able to attach mail
from my IMAP folders to events I create.)

[Bug 140918] Adding stuff to autostart is too difficult

2007-09-19 Thread Soren Hansen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Getting stuff added to autostart is much too difficult. First of all,
guessing that it's in System-Settings-Sessions is not very obvious.
Second of all, actually adding stuff to the list is close to impossible
if you're not familiar with the layout of the Linux filesystem.

Possible solutions in order of preference:
1) Add it to the context menu in the gnome menu. If a program is set to
autostart, make this obvious by putting a tiny emblem of some sort in its menu
entry.

2) Add a new (sucks, I know) entry to the system-settings menu called
Autostart or something. In there, present the list of stuff that's in
the gnome menu and put a checkbox next to each entry to make it start
automatically.

3) Keep the tab in the gnome-session-preferences, and replace the
current Add dialog with a widget that allows you to select a program
from the gnome menu and hide the Add dialog under some sort of
Advanced thing.

[Bug 62400] Re: Podcasts directory should be created when required

2007-09-19 Thread Caroline Ford
Well the bug is still open upstream so I presume it is still a bug. I'm
running dapper so I can't check for gutsy etc.

The duplicate bug #129033 was only reported in July 07 but doesn't say
which release (however July 07 is unlikely to be Edgy and more likely to
be Feisty).

2007-09-19 Thread Joel Bryan Juliano
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 50150 ***

can you try to run `sudo update-gconf-defaults` and move your ~/.gconf*
~/.gnome* ~/.nautilus ~/.metacity to a backup location?
also if this is a case of missing icons, you can try to refresh your icon
database by doing

for i in /usr/share/icons/*;
do sudo gtk-update-icon-cache -f $i;
done

[Bug 140968] Don't ask to empty Trash on unmounting NTFS partitions

2007-09-19 Thread Patrice Vetsel
Public bug reported:

When you try to unmount an usb key formated with vfat, you have a dialog
box asking you what you want to do with the trash there is on it (see
attachment).

With the same usb key, same partition, but formated with NTFS (this is
the only difference), when you want to unmount it, there is no dialog.
Conclusion, user do not know that there is an hidden trash directory
(.Trash-~user) on his usb key. Time after time, this directory take more
space and user don't know why there is no more space left on is usb key.

[Bug 62400] Re: Podcasts directory should be created when required

2007-09-19 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
Yes, the first time you launch rhythmbox it complains about ~/Podcasts not
existing.
Then, when you check the preferences, ~ is now used as Podcasts directory.

What I think would be perfect behavior:
  - use ~/Podcasts by default
  - if it does not exist, change it to the default download directory (set with
xdg-user-dirs)

[Bug 67307] Re: EDGY RC, USB storage devices no longer mounted

2007-09-19 Thread LuisM
I was beaten by this same bug, the solution is USB needs more power.
Now, I dunno if the new driver (or the version used by Ubuntu kernels
have something to do)

In my case, I just plugged the device in the USB ports behind my
computer (not in front) and everything just worked.

Good luck

[Bug 84813] Re: File thumbnail should be used as window icon

2007-09-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Upstream added a sreenshot and some comments:

In Epiphany we dropped that because of the big mess it could take too.
IMHO, it's easier to look for the totem icon than for a $something-im-seeing
icon
...
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=95824action=view

Doesn't look too useful (although I'd have implemented it using libgnomeui's
thumbnailing functions, so we only used ready made thumbnails).

Sebastien, does your reporter like the result? I don't think it's useful, but
maybe he's got some more hindsight into its usefulness...

computer (not in front) and everything just worked.

That would be a different bug, then :)

This problem is when:
a) you use anything newer than dapper
b) your users aren't local - they're in LDAP.

It's completely reproducible with all USB Mass Storage devices,
regardless whether or not it's a clean edgy/feisty install or an upgrade.
