I've noticed this. Rhythmbox transcodes my m4a files to mp3 when moving it to an ipod. I'd really like to just *copy* my m4a files to my ipod. I came across this problem for this first time today -- it was the first time that I have done any heavy browsing through folders containing MP3 files. I think this has something to do with Nautilus. It happens not with all files, but at least with an attached one. Just enter the presentation mode (F5) and try to make a selection. I am running 7.10 and also still have this problem (had it in 7.04 too). I have found the only reliable way to get alarms is to forcibly shutdown the evolution components when restarting evolution. evolution --force- shutdown; evolution. If I do this, I seem to always get alarms and my appointment list for that day. I close evolution at the end of the day and when I start it again the next day, I run it with --force-shutdown first. Also, I would like to add that I had this problem with local calendar items too -- not just items in Exchange calendars. I also have this issue with 7.10 (and with 7.04). I used the --force- shutdown workaround and it does seem to work consistently. Every time I restart evolution, I run 'evolution --force-shutdown' first to stop any running evolution components. If I do this every time I restart evolution, I get alarms as configured. This is really frustrating. I set up SSH port forwarding so I could access my home mt-daap server from work. Rhythmbox is seriously defective if it can't pick up a local share and play music from it. Please fix this bug as soon as you are able. Why was this developed this way? The problem which I reported seems to have been resolved, probably due to updates. I checked just now and everything seems to be just as it should be. Hmm, I don't think it transcoded mine to mp3... the file on the iPod seemed to be an m4a. I could decode it with faad, for instance, although it sounded pretty bad. Also, it was the exact same size as the original. However, the iPod wouldn't play it... The thing is, it doesn't really matter what the output format is. Hi, Sorry it took me so long to respond. Pedro, I am using a Sony VAIO VGN-FS630/ W laptop with a Sony VAIO VGN-FS640/W motherboard. I have provided the links of my computer below. As mentioned before, this bug is noted on any video player that runs under Ubuntu 7.10, such as VLC, Gnome, Mplayer, etc... Also I have enabled desktop effects and don't have any noticeable graphics problem on my system. The only solution I can find is to uninstall all media plugins, restore the original X11 conf file, and delete all folders that have anything to do with totem in the home directory. Then if you install VLC fresh, everything works. Thank you for the response. Unfortunatly, that is the only symptom of the problem. If you need more configuration information, I'll be happy to supply it. But the symptom is simply the Visual Effects changes its setting at random from time to time. I've tried ensuring that /etc/usplash.conf resolution matches the scree resolution in System Preferences and I tried the ipv6 fix above. They made no difference. Looking at the attached bootchart log, it seems to me that SO1readahead readahead take approx 0 seconds while nothing else happening except usplash.
