[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2007-11-28 Thread Peter Würtz
Guys, please actually read the stuff others wrote before...

As I said, the problem with gedit is the save routine. It relies on moving
the file that is being edited while the filehandle is kept open. This works for
most filesystems, but it fails on cifs and sshfs (by the way, it works with
smbfs). There are 2 ways to fix this:
1. do not move open files
2. fix support for moving open files in cifs and sshfs

I would just change the save procedure and go with the first solution,
but the gedit devs don't like the idea of changing their way of saving
files because any other solution would require a full copy of the text
file (for backup) or open up racing conditions if someone else tries to
edit the same file.

[Bug 172526] Two-sided printing problem in libgnomeprint

2007-11-28 Thread Ge-org Brohammer
Public bug reported:

All the programs that use libgnomeprint printing dialog fails do give me
two-side printing capability. In the two-sided option drop down list,
only one option is available: One-sided, but my printer has the duplex
option enabled (Kyocera C5015n network printer).

Duplex printing in programs that do not use libgnomeprint works fine
like openoffice.

[Bug 172528] Evince stops rendering PDF page at euro sign

2007-11-28 Thread Mathijs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Evince stops rendering a PDF page when it encounters a euro sign. This
happened on Ubuntu Gutsy in Evince 2.20.1 using poppler 0.6 (cairo).

Steps to reproduce:

1) download this PDF about the Dutch public transport chip card:
http://www.ns.nl/cgi-bin/get.pdf?Satellite_blobcol=url_downloadblobheader=application%2Fpdfblobkey=idblobtable=Downloadblobwhere=1150968808402
(or see the attached file below)

2) open it in evince and xpdf

2) compare pages 10, 12, 14 and 15 in both viewers

As you can see, evince consistently stops rendering a page when it
reaches a 'euro' sign, where xpdf shows the whole page.

Can you open the printer setup tool (system-config-printer, gnome-cups-

settings? In a group Installable options there should be an option to

[Bug 172538] Nautilus CPU intensive after lots of files created

Binary package hint: nautilus

Some time after creating a large number of files, nautilus 2.2.20 (in
Ubuntu 7.10) starts using 100% CPU for a while, even if no window is
open at that directory.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Let a program create around 20,000 small files, in a directory that is not

[Bug 172550] Can't print to a network printer with evolution

When I print print a mail or something else from evolution to a network printer

start blinking as it had a document ready to print but nothing come out. It
keep on blinking until I switch off it.
Even if I print something else when blinking, nothing happens.

This occours only with evolution.

[Bug 172402] Re: Evince automatically starts up when loading Xubuntu 7.10

2007-11-28 Thread Paul

Hello everyone,

Thanks for all your comments, there are quite some new things I did not
do before.

Peter: I checked both places, but neither has any reference to Evince. I
only get the Restricted Drivers Manager, the Update Notifier, Print
Queue Applet and the Network Manager as autostarted applications.

Cody: Well I don't have save session enabled, because I thought it would
slow down my computer during restart. And I like a fresh start better.
But I would have tried your workaround solution, but Lionel's solution
worked as well...

Lionel: Running the command you gave me turned up;
/home/paul/.cache/sessions/xfce4-session-paul-laptop:0:Legacy0_Command=evince

About the cache; I completely removed Evince again, deleted the .config file of
Evince and then deleted the .cache file and restarted Xubuntu. That actually
worked! When I start Xubuntu now, Evince doesn't show up anymore, great!
Now I just have to remind myself not to close down Xubuntu while Evince is
still running, otherwise it might happen again.

By the way, under Synaptic package manager it is listed as evince-gtk
(without gnome support it says)... This is what came with Xubuntu 7.10
as far as I know.

Thanks for all the help! Fixed my problem (or bug ?)

This bug was nominated for Gutsy but does currently not qualify for a

[Bug 172538] Re: Nautilus CPU intensive after lots of files created

2007-11-28 Thread Martin Magnusson
The files are .df3 files for POV-Ray. Most of them consist of the
following seven bytes: 00 01 00 01 00 01 00. The rest (a few hundred
files) have 3381 bytes (header 00 0F 00 0F 00 0F + 3375 other bytes).

I thought that I hade to wait a few minutes before nautilus would start
working hard, but the last few times I have tried it starts right away.

Where can I find nautilus-debug.txt? I saw in another bug report that it
should be in my home directory, but I can't find it anywhere under ~.

2007-11-28 Thread nomojob
I have followed the instructions about 5 times now and each time it does
not create that .txt file anywhere. I do a search for it one the whole
filesystem and it turns up nothing. What am I missing here? In the
terminal it looks as if everything is going as planned, except for
creating the .txt file.

 hi there
in the instructions where it said gdb-program.txt the program part
meant to be replaced by the name of the program you're trying to get a
backtrace from. in this case will be evolution, and this file will be created
after you run the commands described in the documentation.

hope this helps to clarify things out.

[Bug 172589] Re: Ekiga links do not work (eg get a PC-Phone account)

2007-11-28 Thread Yannick Defais
Hi,

To clarify:

* First bug
You start Ekiga.
You open Tools-PC-to-Phone account
When you click on the links nothing happen.

It seems you're using kubuntu right?

* Second bug
Your webcam isn't allways recognise by Ekiga

IMHO, you should open 1 bug report for each bug as those are 2 different
issues. I suggest you to open another bug report for your webcam.

Regards,
Yannick

[Bug 172599] Evolution Will not send mail via Exchange 2007

2007-11-28 Thread EMallory
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Client Configuration:
Sending Mail Tab
Server: SMTP
TLS encryption
Authentication Type NTLM/SPA

OS Ubuntu 7.10
Evolution 2.12.1

When I attempted to send mail from Evolution via an Exchange 2007 sever with
the above configuration I get the following error:
MAIL FROM command failed: Client does not have permissions to send as this
sender

I have talked wilt the exchange administrator who assures me my account
has all the necessary permissions. I installed Thunderbird with the
exact same settings, (it pulled the configuration from Evolution) and
was able to send mail just fine.

I used wireshark to dump the network conversation between evolution and
exchange, as the transmissions were encrypted, I was not able to discern
anything.

[Bug 37227] Bug not fixed?

2007-11-28 Thread Philip Berghoff
Hello,

I've been working for a couple of weeks now with Evolution and IMAP and
I do have just the same problem with a folder showing up in my evolution
list but not on the server.

This folder behaves the same way as describes above - I can't remove,
move or rename it, and if I'm talking to the server directly or with any
other kind of interface (Thunderbird, webmail) it doesn't show up.

In my .evolution there appears no folder without name or anything other
abnormal.

I tried a couple of things after posting to a German Ubuntu-group, you
can find them here:

http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/134179/?highlight=

In the first entry you can read the log which is created on the server.
The administrator complained about that to my. Therefore, I'd like to
have the bug fixed...

Today I renamed the .evolution-folder in my /home, and when I started
Evolution there was a new one created. The folder with no name appeared
in both of my accounts (which have identical settings and are located on
the same server).

Before that, I only saw the folder on one of my accounts - this means to
me that it does not appear every time. Deleting the account and setting
it up again did not change anything, though.

I hope this information helps and I will not get back on my computer
before Friday night.

I'd be very happy if someone could help out - it's my first bug report
and I'm curious what's gonna happen...

with best regards,

Philip

PS: I'm using Evolution 2.12.1 on a 32Bit Version of Ubuntu (7.10,
Kernel 2.6.22-14-generic, Gnome 2.20.1)

[Bug 154931] Re: gedit does not open xml file

2007-11-28 Thread hughw
I am able to repro this bug in Gutsy . Please reopen.

opening the file with Gedit never displays anything, Gedit becomes
unresponsive, CPU goes to 99%, and after a time I just have to kill
gedit.

The problem seems to be the lack of line endings in the file. I can
open the file in gedit, only if I first process and save the file using
Oxygen XML, which asks me if I want to save it formatted with line
endings.

I have a similar but slightly different problem and I am uploading a
test file . In my case, the large XML file has \r\n line endings at the
beginning, but subsequently the line endings are \n. Gedit opens the
file and displays a screenful of text, but then goes into the CPU 99%
and unresponsive behavior.

I tried following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash but they seem to be for the case
of a program crash. In this case, we have to SIGKILL the program, and there is
no backtrace after following the instructions. I also tried changing the gdb
command to handle SIGKILL but it dis n ot produce a backtrace either. Please
advise how to get you the info you need.

[Bug 172613] Preview pane freezes

2007-11-28 Thread Frank Hieber
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

The Evolution email Preview Pane repeatedly freezes when it displays an
email with any sort of image or HTML embedded. It doesn't matter where
the email comes from. The rest of the program still works. I can
double click on the email and it opens and displays fine, but the
preview pane is stuck on a previous email. Even if I delete the email,
it remains displayed. The only solution that I've found so far is to
kill the application and restart. Attempts to cleanly shut down the
application cause the application to freeze.

[Bug 163418] Re: disable the touchpad after using the keyboard

2007-11-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Doesn't look like a good idea, people often type and then switch to use
the touchpad quickly and it has to work correctly

[Bug 172620] Change order of topics/bookmarks on toolbar doesn't work

2007-11-28 Thread Christoph Langner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Inside the bookmark manager i can add bookmarks or topics to the
toolbar. This way those item will be displayed like a boomarks toolbar
in Firefox. When i right click on that toolbar and choose customize
tollbars i can drag and drop these items to rearrange them. But i can
only move items to the far right of this toolbar. Dropping a
topics/bookmark in the middle does nothing, the dragged object falls
back into it's old place.

[Bug 164309] Re: needs update

Looks like it's working correctly, why do you think it needs an update?
Could you describe what you are trying to do which doesn't work
correctly?
