[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs
Guys, please actually read the stuff others wrote before... As I said, the problem with gedit is the save routine. It relies on moving the file that is being edited while the filehandle is kept open. This works for most filesystems, but it fails on cifs and sshfs (by the way, it works with smbfs). There are 2 ways to fix this: 1. do not move open files 2. fix support for moving open files in cifs and sshfs I would just change the save procedure and go with the first solution, but the gedit devs don't like the idea of changing their way of saving files because any other solution would require a full copy of the text file (for backup) or open up racing conditions if someone else tries to edit the same file. -- gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/34813 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Hello everyone, Thanks for all your comments, there are quite some new things I did not do before. Peter: I checked both places, but neither has any reference to Evince. I only get the Restricted Drivers Manager, the Update Notifier, Print Queue Applet and the Network Manager as autostarted applications. Cody: Well I don't have save session enabled, because I thought it would slow down my computer during restart. And I like a fresh start better. But I would have tried your workaround solution, but Lionel's solution worked as well... Now I just have to remind myself not to close down Xubuntu while Evince is still running, otherwise it might happen again. [Bug 37227] Bug not fixed?
Hello, I've been working for a couple of weeks now with Evolution and IMAP and I do have just the same problem with a folder showing up in my evolution list but not on the server. This folder behaves the same way as describes above - I can't remove, move or rename it, and if I'm talking to the server directly or with any other kind of interface (Thunderbird, webmail) it doesn't show up. In my .evolution there appears no folder without name or anything other abnormal. I tried a couple of things after posting to a German Ubuntu-group, you can find them here: http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/134179/?highlight= In the first entry you can read the log which is created on the server. The administrator complained about that to my. Therefore, I'd like to have the bug fixed... Today I renamed the .evolution-folder in my /home, and when I started Evolution there was a new one created. The folder with no name appeared in both of my accounts (which have identical settings and are located on the same server). Before that, I only saw the folder on one of my accounts - this means to me that it does not appear every time. Deleting the account and setting it up again did not change anything, though. I hope this information helps and I will not get back on my computer before Friday night. I'd be very happy if someone could help out - it's my first bug report and I'm curious what's gonna happen... with best regards, Philip PS: I'm using Evolution 2.12.1 on a 32Bit Version of Ubuntu (7.10, Kernel 2.6.22-14-generic, Gnome 2.20.1) -- unnamed imap folder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/37227 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 154931] Re: gedit does not open xml file
I am able to repro this bug in Gutsy . Please reopen. opening the file with Gedit never displays anything, Gedit becomes unresponsive, CPU goes to 99%, and after a time I just have to kill gedit. The problem seems to be the lack of line endings in the file. I can open the file in gedit, only if I first process and save the file using Oxygen XML, which asks me if I want to save it formatted with line endings. I have a similar but slightly different problem and I am uploading a test file . In my case, the large XML file has \r\n line endings at the beginning, but subsequently the line endings are \n. Gedit opens the file and displays a screenful of text, but then goes into the CPU 99% and unresponsive behavior. I tried following the instructions at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash but they seem to be for the case of a program crash. In this case, we have to SIGKILL the program, and there is no backtrace after following the instructions. I also tried changing the gdb command to handle SIGKILL but it dis n ot produce a backtrace either. Please advise how to get you the info you need. ** Attachment added: xml file with mixed line endings causes gedit unresponsiveness http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10626123/log-gentime-1-2-3-4.witsml -- gedit does not open xml file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154931 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 172613] Preview pane freezes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution The Evolution email Preview Pane repeatedly freezes when it displays an email with any sort of image or HTML embedded. It doesn't matter where the email comes from. The rest of the program still works. I can double click on the email and it opens and displays fine, but the preview pane is stuck on a previous email. Even if I delete the email, it remains displayed. The only solution that I've found so far is to kill the application and restart.
