This happened to me last night. I am running 7.10 and have various desktops installed with Gnome as the default. I do not use Mythbuntu. [Bug 158248] Re: Nautilus gives error too many files open when copying
I often get the same message when copying media-files. Most of the times nautilus restarts and is usable for a while before crashing again. After this happens I cannot get the right click menus working and I have to unmount and copy through the terminal. This morning I also seemed to get some kind of memory leak. I had no nautilus window opened but the computer was unresponsive so I after a while managed to run 'top' and noticed nautilus grabbing 1923m of virtual memory and 632m of real memory. I would love to investigate this further but would need some pointers. I am using 7.10 Gusty Gibbon on a Dell Dimension 4500 1gz, i had the same problem happen to me. It really irritated me, after 15 minutes i would have to unplug the computer and restart. I deleted the buggy screensaver and was able to select a better one from the preferences (the molecule screensaver, at this point, is gone forever). Here is a step-by-step of what i did: 1. open the Terminal, type su and press return 2. enter your root password (and press return, of course) 3. enter rm /usr/lib/xscreensaver/molecule and press return The molecule screensaver is gone, you can now select a better screensaver. It will ask to install some package, but the package it indicated after search, gstreamer- ffmpeg, already installed. Using MPlayer (from menu list, the command is gmplayer) can not play the file, too. On the countrary, in terminal, type [mplayer movie.rmvb] can play the rmvb file. It seems that since mplayer can play the file, all necessary codec should be installed. mplayer and gmplayer seems to be the same, when I [man mplayer] or [man gmplayer], the same thing showed in the terminal. ** Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- 7.04 Unable to play rmvb files correctly https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/108811 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 118514] Re: 12-hour clock type not functioning in Gnome panel clock of zh_CN locale
OK, that bug has been fixed in Ubuntu Gutsy. Many thanks, guys! Firstly, I must mention that the option to choose between 12/24 hour of Gnome Panel's clock may be available only to some locale, for example, zh-CN. Secondly, I was not complaining, though it seemed to be. I do understand the spirit of free software, and I submit patches for several open- source project written in Python. I'm happy to patch a program or fix a bug, if I have the ability. But I'm not actually a programmer, just an experienced user which is lack of many capabilities, including C/C++ programming skills, therefore I make suggestions and submit tickets of bugs in other time. And I do understand that sit and wait is not the right answer to a problem without comprehensive attention. (It spent half a year to finally fix the bug, didn't it?) So I provided a hacky yet feasible solution to the problem. That's it. [Bug 147163] Re: Evolution does not notify on missed alarms
I think the importance of this bug should be at least medium, because this feature is critical for who relies on calendar alerts all day, and this bug is really annoying... However, I have discovered (at least on Ubuntu Gutsy - Gnome 2.20.1), where the problem is, I think. This problem happens when a Gnome session is saved at least one time, more precisely when session is saved manually or automatically: It seems that evolution-alarm-notify daemon has some problem with Gnome session management, and it won't reconnect properly to calendar events on reboot when it is recovered by session manager, causing the daemon to lost ALL the events created BEFORE last session end. For me this behaviour is critical!! But, as a workaround, it's simple to resolve doing this simple steps: 1) Open System-Administration-System monitor and terminate these 3 processes: evolution-alarm-notify evolution-data-server-1.12 (this is not present all time) evolution-exchange-storage 2) Open System-Preferences-Sessions, go to Session options tab and manually save the current session clicking the big button 3) Go to the Start programs tab (the FIRST tab, my ubuntu system is in Italian so I don't know how this tab is called on English systems...), select Evolution Alarm Notifier voice and click Modify button on the right: in the Command line that will appear, add the option --sm-disable to the command line: on Ubuntu Gustsy, consequentially, this will be: /usr/lib/evolution/2.12/evolution-alarm-notify --sm-disable 4) Click Ok, close all and logout or reboot the system: from now on Evolution Notifier will work like a charm. I hope this strange behaviour will be fixed soon, however disabling session management for evolution-alarm-notify daemon fixes the problem perfectly. Cheers. N.B: Maybe this have to be signaled to Evolution mantainers. -- Evolution does not notify on missed alarms https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
