[Bug 173402] gnome control centre in menu instead of entries

2007-12-02 Thread Djihed
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Under System menu item, I only have gnome-control-center, instead of the
two menus Preferences and Administration.

That happened after a recent upgrade, I have no idea what caused it, or
how to get the ordinary menus back.

I found out that this is an abnormal behaviour after installing a new
ubuntu system.

[Bug 163848] Re: default session changes when gnome-session is updated

2007-12-02 Thread Bob Harvey
This happened to me last night. I am running 7.10 and have various
desktops installed with Gnome as the default. I do not use Mythbuntu.

I allowed an automated update manager update to complete, then shut the machine
down. When I started again GDM logged me into XFCE instead, it being the
first one on the list. I had to log out and force a gnome session.
I have been unable to find a log of what was updated, if someone can suggest
anything I will attach it.

[Bug 158248] Re: Nautilus gives error too many files open when copying

2007-12-02 Thread Jari Kankaala
I often get the same message when copying media-files. Most of the times
nautilus restarts and is usable for a while before crashing again. After
this happens I cannot get the right click menus working and I have to
unmount and copy through the terminal. This morning I also seemed to get
some kind of memory leak. I had no nautilus window opened but the
computer was unresponsive so I after a while managed to run 'top' and
noticed nautilus grabbing 1923m of virtual memory and 632m of real
memory. I would love to investigate this further but would need some
pointers. Running Gutsy and 'nautilus --version' gives me 2.20.0.

[Bug 173446] Evolution doesn´t show messages in message-window properly

2007-12-02 Thread alpine_marine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi!
When I´m trying to open a message from inbox in a own window this problem
occurs - in the preview the messages are shown correct!

Steps to provoke this problem:
1. Double click on message in inbox to open the message-window.
2. The window then shows:
* Sometimes (5%) the window shows the message correctly. But the same message
sometimes is not shown - seems not to be related with the messages itself.
* 20% of the messages are provocing a flashing textbox shortly showing the
message-source and the dissapearing.
* Most cases: The window remains empty, most of the controls in the menu are
disabled. It is not possible to use the -Button nor the -Button.

Best regards,
Andy

pop up any dialog box at all. Windows and Macintosh do it this way,
FWIW. Seems this way would be the best of both worlds.

Thanks,

I tried to change compiz. As I said earlier I am new to Ubuntu. I just could
not find, even with the compiz FAQ help, the file or settings to modify.
Then I tried the worst: I disabled the graphical login manager hoping to get
around the problem. I get my login and PW prompt and simply I do not know
how to proceed from the $ prompt or how to get back to the previous!

[Bug 164971] Re: Gnome freezes after moving or deleting many files

2007-12-02 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
I still can't get a logfile. The last time that Nautilus has freezed I
had handled mp3-files again. The system monitor showed Nautilus still
running continiously with 83% CPU and 381 MB memory. That's enormous,
usually it uses about 10 MB.

After shutting down and restarting Nautilus everything was normal with
10,2 MB of memory used by Nautilus and Nautilus sleeping when there is
no action.

I am sorry not to be able to give more information.

gstreamer fails to produce working mp4/aac files with all default
settings:

  gst-launch-0.10 filesrc location=$from ! decodebin ! audioconvert !
faac ! ffmux_mp4 ! filesink location=$to

but sounds OK when:

  gst-launch-0.10 filesrc location=$from ! decodebin ! audioconvert !
faac ! faad ! audioconvert ! alsasink

so I guess the problem is the ffmux_mp4 plugin

[Bug 150193] Re: Remote Login via XDMCP is not working in Ubuntu Gusty/7.10

2007-12-02 Thread Jose Armando Jeronymo
Hi again brunus,

From Gnome Login Screen setup window I made sure XDMCP is enabled on
both machines, restarted both, logged from B into A as I earlier
described but the server still replies that it is unable to open display
.

Is there a different method to enable XDMCP I might try? Why the system
returns what seems to be an empty string as the display number?

Thanks again

Jose

Yves,

I have reverted to 7.04 Feisty and no longer suffer the problem.
Thank you for our response, but I cannot give you the responses you
require without upgrading to 7.10 and I do not wish to go through that
again at this time. I apologise that I did not close the report - I am
learning, slowly.

Thank you for your report, Jef.

Could you please provide us more details about this problem?

 1) Is your disk full? If in doubt, run this command at the terminal:

 df -h

 2) Can you try to open a terminal and run gnome-settings-daemon and
 paste here the full output?

 3) Could you send us your ~/.xsession-errors file? It would be better if
you could delete it, then try to use GNOME again, then send us the
 content of that file (somehow).

In any case, I believe this is a duplicate bug of #146946

[Bug 106060] Re: Selecting the Molecule screensaver makes the PC freeze. It is completely unresponsive.

2007-12-02 Thread Xan
I am using 7.10 Gusty Gibbon on a Dell Dimension 4500 1gz, i had the
same problem happen to me. It really irritated me, after 15 minutes i
would have to unplug the computer and restart. I wasn't able to change
the screensaver from the screensaver preferences-- my system would hang.
I tried changing parts of the gnome-screensaver configuration file in my
home folder, with no luck. I did a search of my system for molecule
and found the screensaver program itself was located at
/usr/lib/xscreensaver/molecule. I deleted the buggy screensaver and was
able to select a better one from the preferences (the molecule
screensaver, at this point, is gone forever). Here is a step-by-step of
what i did:

1. open the Terminal, type su and press return
2. enter your root password (and press return, of course)
3. enter rm /usr/lib/xscreensaver/molecule and press return

The molecule screensaver is gone, you can now select a better
screensaver.

I am guessing this would work with Feisty, but i am not completely sure,
it does work for Gutsy Gibbon.

I hope this is helpful for anyone with this problem.

[Bug 105540] Opening an audio disc from the Gnome places menu fails

2007-12-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Insert an audio disc into your CD-ROM drive
2. Sound Juicer will load automagically, close it.
3. Click Places-Audio CD
4. Sound Juicer will load again, but without any tracks listed (as if launched
without a CD in the drive)

One important note is that I have 2 CD drives, and I am inserting the
audio CD in the 1st drive. If after Step 4 I click Disc-Eject,
curiously it ejects the 2nd drive. This maybe necessary to reproduce the
bug.

[Bug 108811] 7.04 Unable to play rmvb files correctly

2007-12-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I upgraded 6.10 to 7.04 online. After upgraded, I can not play rmvb
movie files by totem-xine correctly. The movie is played, with no sound.

Have tried replacing totem-xine by totem-gstreamer and all suggested
packages installed as well.

Still, totem-gstreamer can not play rmvb files. It will ask to install
some package, but the package it indicated after search, gstreamer-
ffmpeg, already installed.

Using MPlayer (from menu list, the command is gmplayer) can not play the
file, too.

On the countrary, in terminal, type [mplayer movie.rmvb] can play the
rmvb file.

It seems that since mplayer can play the file, all necessary codec
should be installed. mplayer and gmplayer seems to be the same, when I
[man mplayer] or [man gmplayer], the same thing showed in the terminal.

This is repeatable under xubuntu 7.10 and ubuntu 7.10

[Bug 41217] Re: emblems aren't arranged properly in Emblems tab of directory Properties

2007-12-02 Thread Nanley Chery
I was just about to file a bug about this; here is what I would've written:
When given the choice to give a folder emblems users are presented an
unorganized and jumbled list. Instead, each item should be vertically aligned.
This can possibly be accomplished by having all items centered above the
longest-named-item.

[Bug 9252] Re: Nautilus reports file ownership incorrectly on sftp:// files

For me it reports the permissions as unknown, and doesn't allow me to
change them (even though I'm looking at files owned by my current user)

[Bug 118514] Re: 12-hour clock type not functioning in Gnome panel clock of zh_CN locale

2007-12-02 Thread Rockallite
OK, that bug has been fixed in Ubuntu Gutsy. Many thanks, guys!

Firstly, I must mention that the option to choose between 12/24 hour of
Gnome Panel's clock may be available only to some locale, for example,
zh-CN.

Secondly, I was not complaining, though it seemed to be. I do understand
the spirit of free software, and I submit patches for several open-
source project written in Python. I'm happy to patch a program or fix a
bug, if I have the ability. But I'm not actually a programmer, just an
experienced user which is lack of many capabilities, including C/C++
programming skills, therefore I make suggestions and submit tickets of
bugs in other time. And I do understand that sit and wait is not the
right answer to a problem without comprehensive attention. (It spent
half a year to finally fix the bug, didn't it?) So I provided a hacky
yet feasible solution to the problem. That's it. Thank you.

[Bug 147163] Re: Evolution does not notify on missed alarms

2007-12-02 Thread Francesco Locunto
I think the importance of this bug should be at least medium, because this
feature is critical for who relies on calendar alerts all day, and this bug is
really annoying...
However, I have discovered (at least on Ubuntu Gutsy - Gnome 2.20.1), where the
problem is, I think.
This problem happens when a Gnome session is saved at least one time, more
precisely when session is saved manually or automatically: It seems that
evolution-alarm-notify daemon has some problem with Gnome session management,
and it won't reconnect properly to calendar events on reboot when it
is recovered by session manager, causing the daemon to lost ALL the events
created BEFORE last session end. For me this behaviour is critical!!
But, as a workaround, it's simple to resolve doing this simple steps:

1) Open System-Administration-System monitor and terminate these 3 processes:
   evolution-alarm-notify
evolution-data-server-1.12 (this is not present all time)
   evolution-exchange-storage
2) Open System-Preferences-Sessions, go to Session options tab and manually
save the current session clicking the big button
3) Go to the Start programs tab (the FIRST tab, my ubuntu system is in
Italian so I don't know how this tab is called on English systems...), select
Evolution Alarm Notifier voice and click Modify button on the right: in
the Command line that will appear, add the option
--sm-disable
to the command line: on Ubuntu Gustsy, consequentially, this will be:
/usr/lib/evolution/2.12/evolution-alarm-notify --sm-disable
4) Click Ok, close all and logout or reboot the system: from now on Evolution
Notifier will work like a charm.

I hope this strange behaviour will be fixed soon, however disabling
session management for evolution-alarm-notify daemon fixes the problem
perfectly.

Cheers.

N.B: Maybe this have to be signaled to Evolution mantainers.
