[Bug 184537] evolution character encoding problem in from field

2008-01-20 Thread Beber
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm using a Gmail Imap account. As I'm French, I often receive some ISO-8859-1
encoded mails. Evolution correctly decodes the body of the mail, but the From
field is not decoded (see attachment). I haven't checked if the To field was
correctly decoded (I'll add that later if I can test this...).

Cool that the bug is fixed. Wouldn't this be nice though to put a

Also maybe the 'browse' button should be disabled if the device wasn't

It is bugged out of the box...
Maybe I'm wrong, but it happened on my machine on the fresh install and also

All I have to do is start nautilus from Places menu on the secondary screen
and then close it.
Or log off one of the users. Simple as that: start/close or logoff.

[Bug 175682] Re: GNOME rarely starts from GDM in Hardy

2008-01-20 Thread Frank Steudle
I have a problem familiar with bug #136529, where my Gnome-Desktop
doesn't start from GDM. Is this fix also available for Gutsy Gibbon?

I have Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon x86 installed. The radeon-driver for my
graphics card (ATI Radeon X800) and the 3d desktop running. Before the
bug appeared I had an update (quite big - approximately 30 MB of
download-size). Unfortunately I didn't restart after that and I
continued to install new software from the repositories (Tex Live, Lyx,
the latex-plugin for gedit). On the next day as I entered username,
password and finally return into the GDM login window, Gnome didn't
start at all. Instead the following message in .xsession-errors comes
up:

(process:5691): Gtk-WARNING **: This process is currently running setuid or
setgid.
This is not a supported use of GTK+. You must create a helper
program instead. For further details, see:

http://www.gtk.org/setuid.html

/etc/gdm/Xsession: Executing /usr/bin/gnome-session failed, will try to run
x-terminal-emulator
exec: 204: x-terminal-emulator: not found

I tried the offered solutions from #136529 the best I could. But it
didn't work (altering privileges to /tmp, remove gdm from boot, creating
an alternate user, deleting .gnome2-directory from my home-folder,
starting X from terminal). I suceeded in starting Gnome from recovery-
mode with root-privileges via startx. But not with my ordinary user
account.

I am very grateful for your help in advance.

Kind regards
Frank

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2008-01-20 Thread Kyle M Weller
it is indeed bugged out of the box, its a shame, same bug on all 15
computers at my work, and 3 ubuntu pc's at my home, just login from
another account while one is logged in and then log off the second user
and 100% cpu on all 18 computers I operate... Its pretty sad to have
this bug for so long without a fix. Everyone is effected, ubuntu is
meant for multple users but unfortunately we cannot take advantage of
the linux operating system, THIS SHOULD BE LABELED CRITICAL!

2008-01-20 Thread jlinho
Does everybody here have a Core 2 XXX CPU ?

I have a Core 2 Quad CPU. Maybe hardware has an influence for this bug? I
just can't imagine that everybody who installs Ubuntu 7.10 has such an
enormous bug (The 100% CPU Nautilus bug appears on a fresh Gutsy install).

Also I am not using a 64 bits install, just a 32 bits one.

2008/1/20, Alen [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

It is bugged out of the box...
Maybe I'm wrong, but it happened on my machine on the fresh install and
 also after upgrading from feisty.
All I have to do is start nautilus from Places menu on the secondary
 screen and then close it.
Or log off one of the users. Simple as that: start/close or logoff.

[Bug 4712] Re: disregards gconf key /apps/panel/global/locked_down

2008-01-20 Thread shaggy
The bug still exists in gutsy.

With a closer look at gnome's bug #300832 i can say that one is not
related with this one.

Try on your own: Open a terminal. Then lock down the desktop with this command:
gconftool -t bool -s /apps/panel/global/locked_down true

Open the context menu of the applications-menü top-left on your gnome desktop,
see that you are able to launch the menu editor.
This should never be possible in a locked down environment.

From my point of view this bug's importance is not Low, since i can
not create locked down kiosk systems.

[Bug 18780] Re: Browser: tree view rendering problem

2008-01-20 Thread Spuerhund
I agree with Wladston that this triangle is a serious issue. It impacts
usability, because it pretends that there is some content even for
folders which are not empty. Even if this misleading empty string is
not so easy to fix because of the show only folders option - it should
be possible to remove this triangle in the view in front of folders
which do not have any content at all. Next improvement would be to hide
it as well when the folder has no subfolders and the show only folders
option is enabled.

Re: [Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2008-01-20 Thread Jordan Erickson
I thought at first the similarities were dual-core CPUS - I'm having
this issue on HP Proliant ML370 (G5) servers - 2x dualcore Xeon 1.6GHz
(i386 *and* AMD64 installs). They are all Ubuntu LTSP servers that serve
entire labs. I have seen Nautilus hog 100% of the CPU when I am the only
one logged in (and then out), after the first login after installation.
I don't have to launch an actual filebrowser window for it to come up
(Nautilus loads automatically to show desktop icons, etc. anyway).

What's changed in Gutsy? Well, Compiz (which I don't use on my servers),
desktop-applet/tracker (which I have removed)... Is only happens when
someone is logging out. There has to be some sort of cleanup/other
routine that is triggering it.

I agree it can't be SO huge that *everyone* is experiencing this issue.
So here is my setup, hopefully people who are having this issue can
post their setups as well so we can find some commonalities.

Server: Ubuntu 7.10 (A mix of i386 AMD64, server desktop installs,
all with latest linux-image-server kernels, all acting as LTSP servers
for i386 clients). All on HP Proliant ML370 G5 servers, 8GB RAM (using
PAE in the kernel to address all 8GB), 146GB RAID 1 arrays (2 SAS
disks). All of them running Gnome with the latest updates.

All instances of 100% CPU hogging happens with users who have not
modified Nautilus settings in any way (or have even opened filebrowser
windows). It's definitely stock, out of the box behavior. It doesn't
happen every time, but definitely at least 30-50% of the time, whenever
someone logs out.

HTH,
Jordan

Also I am not using a 64 bits install, just a 32 bits one.

All I have to do is start nautilus from Places menu on the secondary

Or log off one of the users. Simple as that: start/close or logoff.

Everyone who is having this issue needs to go to the actual bug report
in Launchpad, at:

Make an account if you don't already have one, and post a comment on the

how many people this bug is currently affecting in Gutsy and hopefully
will shift some momentum to it to backport it. =)

[Bug 43589] Re: [totem-gstreamer] wont play vcd for unknown reason

2008-01-20 Thread Trouilliez vincent
Vincent,
I'm talking about to play VCDs from the cdrom .

Ah, sorry. It's just that my bug was marked as a duplicate of this one,
so I assumed your fix would work too.

Follow the above steps, insert a VCD in your CDROM, and please let me
know if you have success.

I don't even know what a VCD really is (don't laugh). What does VCD stand
for ?
All I have is a couple of documentaries on a DVD, with a menu to select
chapters, a bit like a movie then.
Does that count as a VCD ? I guess no, otherwise your fix would have worked !
;-)

I wonder why my bug (#122635) got marked as a duplicate of this one
then, if it's not the same problem :-/

[Bug 27109] Re: nautilus uses 100% cpu after closing a ssh session

2008-01-20 Thread Carl Englund
Ok, so this bug is about two years old now.. I guess it's related to my
problem: In Edubuntu the clients connect via SSH. After people log out a
Nautilus process is sometimes left running @ 100% CPU forcing me to kill
it. It happens almost every day and slows the server (and clients) to a
crawl.

What can I do to help get this fixed?

[Bug 164804] Re: Gnome Login Error

2008-01-20 Thread mlissner
I can comment, that when I had this problem, it was out of the blue. I
do have a static IP (as mentione above), but I had had it for a long
time when I had this problem. I am pretty sure it is related to gnome-
applets because my solution was to purge and then reinstall that
package. I don't think it is related to samba or multiple logins
because I don't have any of that going on on my personal laptop...

If it helps, there's a somewhat lengthy (and growing) thread about this

[Bug 43589] Re: [totem-gstreamer] wont play vcd for unknown reason

2008-01-20 Thread julio
Totem has 2 modes in which it can work

with lib-xine or with gstreamer0.10, I encounter that with gstreamer0.10
is really a headache.

In order to know with which one your Totem is working on, follow this
steps:

1. Open Totem
2. Click the menu Help
3. Click About

You wil encounter something like this:

Totem Movie Player 2.XX.X
Movie Player using xine-lib version X.X.X and GNOME ( I take this from my
system, the x means any number)

If you encounter that your Totem Movie Player is working with gstreamer,
I suggest you to install Totem-Xine from Synaptics. It will remove
automatically the Totem-Gstreamer and will install Totem with the
libraries of xine.

[Bug 180087] Re: Processes tab causes GLib error

2008-01-20 Thread migash.r
Hi guys,

I get EXACTLY the same error when trying to switch to the processes tab.
I think I have found the root of the problem - it seems that when I have
Firefox running, the system monitor crashes. However, when it is not
running, the system monitor works fine, I can see the processes tab
without any problems..

However, when starting from terminal, it still displays the warning SELinux
was found but not enabled.
As for the Firefox, I think the issue might be that lately I have replaced the
default system icons with some custom from gnome-look.org, but I didn't like
the icon for Firefox. So, I downloaded another custom icon as PNG image and
saved it as SVG, and overwritten the original SVG icons for Firefox.

Therefore, I guess this might be causing the problems in my case, looks
like the problem is broken icons. I'll try to fix the icons just to be
sure.

Anyway, though this looks like a user-caused problem, I think the gnome-
system-monitor still might get fixed so that it won't crash when
something like this happens, perhaps just don't display any icons..?

My signal-to-noise ratio is getting worse. ;)

Everyone who is having this issue needs to go to the actual bug report
 in Launchpad, at:

Make an account if you don't already have one, and post a comment on the
bug requesting a backport to Gutsy. That way, the developers will see
how many people this bug is currently affecting in Gutsy and hopefully
will shift some momentum to it to backport it. =)

 HTH,
 Jordan

[Bug 183846] Re: google calendar source does not show all events

2008-01-20 Thread Frank Quist
I have borrowed someone's (private... if anyone has a public/testing
account that can be used that would be great) Google Calendar account
and reproduced the same error on another system account. Oddly enough,
with the other calendar the amount of events that loads also caps at 25.
To me, this seems like a hint. There are a couple of errors it seems
with dates, which I can't reproduce until I get a hand of a public
calendar.

This appears to effect compiz and totem combination only. (Although I've

workaround 2 to fix fullscreen black-bars on widescreen video: use the keyboard

Re: [Bug 43589] Re: [totem-gstreamer] wont play vcd for unknown reason

2008-01-20 Thread Justin
Don't know what a VCD is?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vcd

There you go, they were quite big just before DVD. They were popular outside
of Europe and I think The States. I think that they were probably abandoned
because DVD's are able to be controlled by region and DVD encryption etc.
VCD's are simpler.

In order to know with which one your Totem is working on, follow this
 steps:

 1. Open Totem
 2. Click the menu Help
 3. Click About

You wil encounter something like this:

 Totem Movie Player 2.XX.X
Movie Player using xine-lib version X.X.X and GNOME ( I take this from my
system, the x means any number)

If you encounter that your Totem Movie Player is working with gstreamer,
I suggest you to install Totem-Xine from Synaptics. It will remove
automatically the Totem-Gstreamer and will install Totem with the
 libraries of xine.

Please let us know if that solves the problem.

Ah, ok... yes, now I remember seeing these here in France, 15 years ago... they

But they were not successful at all, and so were quickly abandonned, after only
a year or so if I remember well..
