[Bug 197633] Re: epiphany is not listed in the preferred application choices

2008-03-03 Thread James Westby
Hi,

Thanks for the extra info.

I think there are two possible fixes for this issue.

The problem is the g-c-c checks for epiphany in the path.
This is a shell script shipped by the epiphany-browser package
that just execs epiphany-browser. That is an alternative provided
by both -gecko and -webkit. This means that you can have a valid
epiphany installed, but not have epiphany in the path.

The two fixes I see are:

  1) Switch epiphany to use epiphany for the alternative,
and not install the shell script.

  2) Switch g-c-c to check for and use epiphany-browser
   for epiphany.

I'm assigning this bug to both packages so that the maintainers
can come to an agreement.

Thanks,

James

[Bug 165174] Re: silently fails to save bmp picture

Approved with the 'silent data loss' justification, although .bmp is not
very common these days.

describe which problem the patch fixes. Many users read the chanelog in

[Bug 196464] Re: After gdm upgrade no X cliens can be run

2008-03-03 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
Some files packed into a tgz file is attached. My home directory:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -ld ~
drwxr-xr-x 239 lgb lgb 20480 2008-03-03 09:06 /home/lgb
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ whoami
lgb

(note: pidgin segfault can be seen in file 'dmesg' is already reported
as #197146 by me, so ignore it here)

Now I've discovered that this bug is easier to reproduce if:

1. lock the screen
2. login from remote via ssh
3. install packages/upgrades (gdm as well?) via apt-get from remote
4. come back to the console
5. try to unlock

It does not work, no password input dialog or shown, only mouse cursor
blinks. If I switch to text console and kill gnome-screensaver, then
switch back to my X/gnome session, the reported bug occures, no X
clients can be run. However I don't remember that ALL similar bugs were
got only in this mode ...

@Daniel: I'm sorry, I momentarily forgot that the summary of this bug

something like incorrect profiling files created, and indeed the
profiling files created in ~/.gnome2/gnome-power-manager are called
'profile-generic_id-generic... and so on. With that patch (at least I
_think_ it's that patch), the files are named 'profile-CP194245-XX'

https works for officialy signed and valid ssl certificates.
https does not work for self-signed, expired

As soon as the certificate is not 100% OK, there should be a message about the
problem, but you can only see a blank page.
The handling of SSL errors (i.e. self-signed certificates, expired, etc.) has
changed in gecko 1.9 (firefox 3). Today you get a fancy html message in firefox

[Bug 197900] Re: Frequent total system freeze since Fri 29-Feb-08 security update

2008-03-03 Thread Gilles
I agree that it is probably not nautilus directly. I suspect it is more
probably due to the udev or volumeid change. But I could not revert
these two and apparently reverting nautilus (and libvolume-id0) was
enough to stop it triggering the fault.

And no, when the crash occurs, I can't switch to VT. I haven't tried ssh
but I tried a ping (at the time) and the machine didn't respond to it
(when it usually does... So I would expect the ssh to fail too). As I
said, when the machine crashes, there is nothing in the logs and the
keyboard led (and the mouse) completly freeze, and that is usually the
sign of a pretty bad lock up...

Now, I haven't had a single crash since I reverted part of Friday's
updates (as indicated earlier) and in fact I am reporting this bug from
the machine that had the problem. I suspect I will be ok as long as I
block automatic update or we somehow manage to identify the exact issue.

[Bug 197153] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-03-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
From the confirmations, it sounds like all the reporters are using
drivers or hardware without proper xrandr 1.2 support. I would imagine
fglrx users would have the same problem.

This will require adding some checks to verify 1.2 capabilities of the
drivers in g-s-d I suppose. I'll work on it this week; meanwhile
disabling the xrandr module is probably the best workaround for now.

[Bug 58171] Re: Connection to ICE-unix/.. socket times out so programs take minutes to start

2008-03-03 Thread Jan Sebesta
Does anybody found correct solution?

I have Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty (kernel 2.6.20-16-generic and gnome desktop)
and have exactly the same problem. When I unplug network cable, then any
application execution is blocked for about 5 or 10 seconds. strace gives
the same output as it has been posted by another guys here.

I tried to switch off ipv6 as it has been posted by Alexander, but
without success.

I found in internet, that /tmp/.ICE-unix folder contains X11 session
information. So it seems for me, that the problem is in x11 daemon,
which executes applications running on it.

I am not expert on GUI in Linux, but I can always easily reproduce the
error and I can try to debug or whatever else, just tell me how.. Or
maybe is it fixed in some new update?

Jan

[Bug 197153] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-03-03 Thread Lars Wirzenius
I have this problem on my system as well. I use the radeonhd driver. It
goes away if I set /apps/gnome-settings-daemon/plugins/xrandr/active and
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/xrandr/active both to false (perhaps
one of the might have been enough).

Based on Bryce's instructions on IRC, I verified that the driver seems
to have xrandr 1.2 support:

xrandr -q reports sensible stuff

xrandr --output VGA_1 --mode 1024x768 sets the mode correctly

xrandr --output VGA_1 --auto correctly resets the mode back to what it
should be

[Bug 147298] Re: [Gutsy] AD198x Analog: microphone misconfigured

2008-03-03 Thread aleph42
Hi muhalifsirin.

If you still have energy to try things out, my advice would be to burn
CDs of previous versions of ubuntu (down to edgy) and try the mic with
those (as live CDs).

I think one of the main problems of ubuntu currently is that gui tools aren't
proprely configured (they don't link to the right shell command). This can
appen when a new version comes along: the command has changed, but not the gui.
For exemple creating a wifi network with gui doesn't work, but in command line
it does.

What I mean is the driver for our mic (or at least one of them) is
probably there somewhere (that's what ubuntu is REALLY good at, and
beleive me, when tried to install debian 4 years ago it was really
worse).

Finding what exaclty causes those problems takes a lot of time and
skill, but live CDs default configuration can work because they haven't
accumulated as much conflicting configs.

hope that helps.

[Bug 27014] Re: evolution bug, Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

2008-03-03 Thread Johnathon
Reading up on it, this would require an SRU, not a backport. (The
backport team won't backport for a bug fix).

Personally, I don't think that it is worth putting an SRU through,
although you can request one if you wish, we would need (as mentioned
before) a minimal .debdiff

(Need to fill this when: Bugs which do not fit under above categories,
but (1) have an obviously safe patch and (2) affect an application
rather than critical infrastructure packages (like X.org or the kernel).
We fit (2), but need a minimal patch to fit (1).)

Here is more info on the SRU process:

[Bug 117583] Re: ipod: album art cover.jpg not added

2008-03-03 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
I've understood what triggers the artwork to be copied: the file must be
playing in the moment it is copied to the ipod. In this case it copies
cover.jpg too.
This bug is also valid (in my case) if the artwork is downloaded

** Summary changed:

- ipod: album art cover.jpg not added

+ I've just dragged a song to the ipod, but its cover art, which was available

[Bug 197290] Re: 2 gb max inbox

2008-03-03 Thread hggdh
Hello sari,

Current Linux (and glibc) do suport very large files; you are running
such a system (Ubunut 7.10). I would like to get a bit more of data on
what happened.

1. What is the underlying filesystem? Open a terminal window, and issue
the following commands:

mount# will list all mounted volumes
df -k # will list the available and used space on the mounted volumes

then paste the output here. Also please state on which filesystem you
have the Evo mailboxes.

2. what type of access do you use to GMail? Pop3, IMAP?

3. I understand you still have the large mailbox, but renamed. Please
stop Evolution, and restart it from the command line as

  env CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution --component=mail evo.log 21

Evo should start normally, and will throw into 'evo.log' a lot of
diagnostic data. After Evo has fully started, please *attach* the
resulting 'evo.log' here.

And we will have a look at it.

[Bug 197206] Re: gnome-power-man consumes 300 MB memory....and increasing to bring down system

2008-03-03 Thread fouck
I experience the same type of bugs since few days with gnome-power-
manager. First the memory consumption increase until it saturates my
whole RAM (2Gb). Then it begin to consume my SWAP area. I had also to
kill gnome-power-manager to back to a normal memory consumption. When I
relaunch it, it does not consume more memory than normally. This bug
occurs often few time after my laptop (a Dell Vostro 1400) wake up from
an hibernation and reproduce at least five or six times since few days.
I will try to trace the bug in the next day.

bzipped down to 11M. Sorry I forgot to check on the size.

[Bug 195788] Re: Evolution 2.21.92 (hardy) crashes when attaching MS-Office files

2008-03-03 Thread hggdh
Effenberg0x0, upstream would like to know what are the contents of
'mime_type on #3 in the stacktrace. In fact, they would like to look
around to zero in the error. Could you please run Evo under GDB again
and, when you hit the error, do:

1. thread apply all bt full # full BT, all threads
2. gcore evo.dump # save a core dump file

Then please attach the ouput of (1), the 'evo.dump' file generated by
(2), and the contents of ~/.xsession-errors.

*NOTE* *before* uploading the memory dump, please make sure this bug is
marked PRIVATE. I am putting it into private right now, but it is a good
idea to check. As soon as we are done with the core dump we will delete
it.

Thanks a lot. I, for one, cannot see why mime_type is getting messed
up...

[Bug 198012] [NEW] Latest update removes Storage and Multimedia tabs from Removable drives and Media

2008-03-03 Thread Stuart Guest
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

Release: Hardy Heron (8.04)
Package: gnome-volume-manager (2.22.1-1ubuntu2)

The tabs labelled Storage and Multimedia are missing after
upgrading. I don't know if this was some kind of intentional change,
but I thought I would mention it since they are referred to in the
Ubuntu documentation.
