[Bug 197633] Re: epiphany is not listed in the preferred application choices
Hi, Thanks for the extra info. I think there are two possible fixes for this issue. The problem is the g-c-c checks for epiphany in the path. This is a shell script shipped by the epiphany-browser package that just execs epiphany-browser. That is an alternative provided by both -gecko and -webkit. This means that you can have a valid epiphany installed, but not have epiphany in the path. The two fixes I see are: 1) Switch epiphany to use epiphany for the alternative, and not install the shell script. 2) Switch g-c-c to check for and use epiphany-browser for epiphany. I'm assigning this bug to both packages so that the maintainers can come to an agreement. [Bug 197900] Re: Frequent total system freeze since Fri 29-Feb-08 security update
I agree that it is probably not nautilus directly. I suspect it is more probably due to the udev or volumeid change. But I could not revert these two and apparently reverting nautilus (and libvolume-id0) was enough to stop it triggering the fault. And no, when the crash occurs, I can't switch to VT. I haven't tried ssh but I tried a ping (at the time) and the machine didn't respond to it (when it usually does... So I would expect the ssh to fail too). As I said, when the machine crashes, there is nothing in the logs and the keyboard led (and the mouse) completly freeze, and that is usually the sign of a pretty bad lock up... Now, I haven't had a single crash since I reverted part of Friday's updates (as indicated earlier) and in fact I am reporting this bug from the machine that had the problem. I suspect I will be ok as long as I block automatic update or we somehow manage to identify the exact issue. -- Frequent total system freeze since Fri 29-Feb-08 security update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197900 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

From the confirmations, it sounds like all the reporters are using drivers or hardware without proper xrandr 1.2 support. I would imagine fglrx users would have the same problem. This will require adding some checks to verify 1.2 capabilities of the drivers in g-s-d I suppose. [Bug 58171] Re: Connection to ICE-unix/.. socket times out so programs take minutes to start
Does anybody found correct solution? I have Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty (kernel 2.6.20-16-generic and gnome desktop) and have exactly the same problem. When I unplug network cable, then any application execution is blocked for about 5 or 10 seconds. strace gives the same output as it has been posted by another guys here. I tried to switch off ipv6 as it has been posted by Alexander, but without success. I found in internet, that /tmp/.ICE-unix folder contains X11 session information. So it seems for me, that the problem is in x11 daemon, which executes applications running on it. I am not expert on GUI in Linux, but I can always easily reproduce the error and I can try to debug or whatever else, just tell me how.. Or maybe is it fixed in some new update? [Bug 147298] Re: [Gutsy] AD198x Analog: microphone misconfigured
Hi muhalifsirin. If you still have energy to try things out, my advice would be to burn CDs of previous versions of ubuntu (down to edgy) and try the mic with those (as live CDs). I think one of the main problems of ubuntu currently is that gui tools aren't proprely configured (they don't link to the right shell command). This can appen when a new version comes along: the command has changed, but not the gui. For exemple creating a wifi network with gui doesn't work, but in command line it does. What I mean is the driver for our mic (or at least one of them) is probably there somewhere (that's what ubuntu is REALLY good at, and beleive me, when tried to install debian 4 years ago it was really worse). Finding what exaclty causes those problems takes a lot of time and skill, but live CDs default configuration can work because they haven't accumulated as much conflicting configs. hope that helps. -- [Gutsy] AD198x Analog: microphone misconfigured https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147298 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gstreamer0.10 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 27014] Re: evolution bug, Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync
Reading up on it, this would require an SRU, not a backport. (The backport team won't backport for a bug fix). Personally, I don't think that it is worth putting an SRU through, although you can request one if you wish, we would need (as mentioned before) a minimal .debdiff (Need to fill this when: Bugs which do not fit under above categories, but (1) have an obviously safe patch and (2) affect an application rather than critical infrastructure packages (like X.org or the kernel). We fit (2), but need a minimal patch to fit (1).) [Bug 197290] Re: 2 gb max inbox
Hello sari, Current Linux (and glibc) do suport very large files; you are running such a system (Ubunut 7.10). I would like to get a bit more of data on what happened. 1. What is the underlying filesystem? Open a terminal window, and issue the following commands: mount# will list all mounted volumes df -k # will list the available and used space on the mounted volumes then paste the output here. Also please state on which filesystem you have the Evo mailboxes. 2. what type of access do you use to GMail? Pop3, IMAP? 3. I understand you still have the large mailbox, but renamed. Please stop Evolution, and restart it from the command line as env CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution --component=mail evo.log 21 Evo should start normally, and will throw into 'evo.log' a lot of diagnostic data. After Evo has fully started, please *attach* the resulting 'evo.log' here.
