[Bug 199707] Re: trashcan has disappear from panel
Confirmed in 8.04. A friend who uses my system under a non-sudo account I created for them asked me why their trashcan in the taskbar bottom-right kept disappearing. Where's the trashcan? I looked around and I can't see it? I thought it was because I had changed the theme for him from the default human theme to a blue one (I forget the name of the theme I changed it to), and I had seen the trash icon there when I set it up for him. I thought he was crazy, so I logged into his account with him there, and sure enough, it was gone. I googled for info and saw this page, my friend began dancing in celebration. It turns out he wasn't crazy after all, but I had never experienced this strange bug before now. This does not occur for me on my sudo-enabled user account, the first account created during the Ubuntu install. It does occur for my friend when he logs into his non-sudo account. He uses a different theme, one of the others offered in the default install, it gives him a blue trashcan and a green running stick figure Quit icon in the top right corner of the screen. He has no other problems other than this disappearing trash icon. I enabled the Trash icon on his desktop and he is satisfied, he hasn't said a word about the missing trash icon even though it still is missing when he logs into his account. I'm not sure at what point the trash icon on the bottom panel started disappearing for him. -- trashcan has disappear from panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199707 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 226377] [NEW] Screen Saver Preferences - Insufficient Settings
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver Ubuntu 8.04 (i386) Final. gnome-screensaver 2.22.2-0ubuntu1 The default Screen Saver preferences window in Ubuntu has almost no options available. One can choose the screensaver to use, but can make no customizations at all for that screen. For some screensavers, this is minor, because it might just be to choose the number of objects on screen, or the speed of the screensaver. However, with some screensavers, slideshow ones in particular (eg GLSlideshow) having access to customizations is essential. Most critically the user needs to be able tell the screensaver the location of the images to be shown. Additionally the user might want to adjust the other parameters. GLSlideshow, for example, has quite a few parameters available, but they cannot be accessed with gnome- screensaver. Some people manually search and edit the config files - this is what keeps Ubuntu as a geeky OS rather than a sleek OS for human beings. I found that installing the Xscreensaver 5.04 package allowed me access to most of the parameters. Xscreensaver is not perfect, but it is much better than gnome-screensaver. If the latter does not improve, it should not remain as the default screensaver package. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Screen Saver Preferences - Insufficient Settings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226377 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu 8.04 fresh install Kernel 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 13:23:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux cpu Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz when some program use too much CPU for some time (for some seconds, sometimes a minute), the system reboots without any error or warning, just like a power failure. to repeat the behaviour, just open GIMP, load some big photo and make some CPU intensive operation on it. For example, Ive installed gimp greycstoration plugin, and when applying it on an image, the cpu gets the 100% load. now just wait some seconds or a minute or so and voila, the machine reboots. Ok. Moving Gimp - Linux Please include the following additional information, (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team: 1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture. 2. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log after a fresh boot and attach the resulting file dmesg.log to this bug report. 3. Please run the command sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report. [Bug 219435] [NEW] World Clock Applet resizes improperly using dual head video
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I am using the World Clock Applet (version 2.22.1.2) on a dual head monitor under Ubuntu Hardy Beta. When I click on the time to expand the calendar and weather information the entire window that displays the weather and calendar is sized correctly. However, when I place my mouse over any of my set timezones, the Set button becomes visible. This in turn, increases the width of the entire window (the one that displays the weather and calendar). The width of that window only increases a few pixels, but when it increases, it expands into the second monitor. I have attached two screenshots. In the first image, you can see the window how it should be. In the second image, you can clearly see the world clock applet window passes the right most side of the docked panel above it (and onto the next monitor). ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- World Clock Applet resizes improperly using dual head video https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219435 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have selected the Human List and for the Style: Theme. Result: I get the Human List theme but no faces are shown. (its an empty box) I was wondering how that was possible, and looked into the configuration. I selected than for the Style: Theme and faces. Logged out, and saw that it was what I wanted (Human List with faces). This configuration seems confusing. I selected the Human List theme, so it would be stupid to not have the faces. [Bug 159262] Re: gdm doesn't call usplash_down
Leszek: It sounds like you are having problems with the spash screen on boot. This post is about the *shut down* splash screen. In xubuntu you don't get a graphical shutdown unless you add the usplash_down call to gdm. It works in ubuntu most of the time without the call for some reason. As for the startup splash, you are right, that is started using initramfs (using the frame buffer I beleive (but I could be wrong)) and then the usplash start call in gdm actually shuts down the spash screen. [Bug 224527] [NEW] Inconsistent with new icon naming scheme
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Package contains old naming convention for gnome. Currently some icons do not display as Nuovo and default to gnome icons in both desktop and nautilus (folder icons etc...). Current icons sets that have this problem include Nuovo, Humility, Suede and Yasis other icon sets that I have not tested probably have this problem as well. The problems seems to stem from still having a folder called filesystems and not places plus many of the icon names have not been renamed and/or linked as they are supposed to be. An icon set that works perfectly is the Gion set which seems to follow the new specifications laid down here: http://standards.freedesktop.org/icon-naming-spec/icon-naming-spec- latest.html Icon set that currently do not follow new convention should be either brought up to date or should be removed from repositories as they don't work properly and the steps to fix this are probably too frustrating/involved for casual/newbie users. This may be an upstream problem as some icon sets downloaded using Gnome Art Manager from gnome art itself display the same problems. ** Affects: humility (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs (desktop-bugs) Status: Confirmed ** Affects: nuovo (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Ubuntu Artwork Packagers (ubuntu-art-pkg) Status: Confirmed ** Affects: suede (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed -- Inconsistent with new icon naming scheme https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/224527 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
