[Bug 116990] Re: Rhythmbox sound problems (clicking/snapping/crackling) when not using crossfading backend

2008-05-08 Thread unggnu
@mihai007
I guess it is a pulseaudio problem. Just close Rhythmbox, run in Terminal the
command killall pulseaudio and start Rhythmbox again. If pulseaudio is the
reason it is probably fixed with the new Kernel in proposed.

[Bug 187383] Re: System monitor causes Xorg to consume 100% CPU

2008-05-08 Thread Hewus
Xorg use has dropped from 60-70% to just 10-20% CPU (tested just before
and after the update). Graph animation is now very smooth (and the lines
also seem thinner, which is nice imo). Great success!

[Bug 180087] Re: Processes tab causes GLib error

2008-05-08 Thread BandD
Maybe that it the problem then. I pulled this icon out of an icon set I
got from gnome-look.org as is with the .svg tag. But after looking at
the file in detail, it is indeed a .png. So perhaps the problem is when
a file labeled as .svg is actually a .png. Trying to open the .svg one
in image viewer doesn't work. But if I rename it to firefox.png it
works fine. So perhaps a mislabled icon is to blame.

[Bug 228128] [NEW] Nautilus crashes when copying one file/folder in Hardy

2008-05-08 Thread anaspeople
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 8.04
nautilus 1:2.22.2-0ubuntu4

It happens when I copy and paste or move a single file/folder. Nautilus does
sometimes copy it but restarts and show my home directory.
Everything works ok when I copy more than one file/directory.
I have no idea why this happens, but it i's really annoying.
I have this problem in three machines with a clean Hardy installation.
I've already asked a question for this issue, with no solution so far.

[Bug 180881] Re: Fonts in the GNOME login screen are disproportionately big

2008-05-08 Thread Robbie G
Thanks Jan Groenewald for the x-referencing and workaround suggestions
however this really needs to be fixed upstream so that it does not
appear in the relases of Ubuntu.

Threads 363958 575978 reference only the font size / login screen
issue (Not sure about 706788) and temporary workarounds were suggested.

Threads 235214, 3609621 and bug 141001 reference issues with large fonts
appearing in gnome window titles AND the login screen. I previously
experienced both.

The issue with the large fonts in the window titles has been resolved
(bug 141001) - thanks to all involved.

However... It is now apparent that there were 2 separate issues here as
the login font issue remains. For clarity I attach a screenshot of the
login font issue that remains (this is unashamedly copied from a January
2007 post which shows the problems been around for a while!).

[Bug 228137] [NEW] sound applet often shows zero volume after loudness change with keys

2008-05-08 Thread unggnu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Sound applet often shows zero volume after loudness change with the volume
keys. The sound isn't actually muted the bar is just gone. If I change loudness
again the bar is shown like before. This happens every time after two to four
volume changes in one direction.
I am using fresh installed Hardy with all current updates and deactivated
compiz but it even happens with compiz. I have two audio devices but if
connected only the Audigy2 is used. The volume keys change the Master
controller. Afaik this happens with only one connected sound card too but I am
going to recheck it soon.

[Bug 154338] [NEW] gnome-screensaver indicates bad keyboard layout

2008-05-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'using Gutsy and the keyboard indicator to switch between french and
us layouts. This is working fine.

When I lock the screen, gnome-screensaver 2.20.0 indicates the current
layout together with the password prompt.

Sometimes, gnome-screensaver indicates the bad layout (ie. the one that
is not currently used). In such a case, the password I type isn't the
good one, and it is hard to unlock. I should also say that in such a
case, the keyboard indicator indicates the good keyboard layout.

[Bug 218834] Re: dvd or cd does not mount

2008-05-08 Thread Ralf
I can confirm this bug too, but to me it seems more of a kernel problem
(allthough I'm not a developer).

I've upgraded from Kubuntu Gutsy to Kubuntu Hardy, and so I've got 2 kernels on
my machine:
- 2.6.24-16-generic
- 2.6.22-14-generic

Booting the new kernel DVD's are not mounted (and there appears another
error-message telling me libdvdcss is not installed, allthough it is,
but I guess that's a different story). This happened before I installed
the proposed hal, and after I installed it. So no change for me here.

Booting the old kernel DVD's are mounted and played (even without the
libdvdcss error-message!), no matter I used hal delivered with Hardy,
or the proposed hal.

Disabling the old entry in /etc/fstab (/dev/hdd/media/cdrom0
udf,iso9660 user, noauto, exec 0 0) did not work either with the new
kernel.

If there is anything I can test just let me know.

Regards,

Ralf

[Bug 140892] Re: Usplash breaks suspend/hibernate with vga=

2008-05-08 Thread loci
I am experiencing the same problem with Hardy! Without the 'splash'
kernel option everything is all right, suspend/resume works fine. With
the kernel option 'splash' or with the option 'vga=771' the machine (hp
nx8220) suspends, but is unable to resume. I only get a blank screen.
The video card is an Ati x600. I will attach dmesg, xorg.conf and acpi-
support. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 187383] Re: System monitor causes Xorg to consume 100% CPU

2008-05-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes gnome-system-monitor 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 is an improvement, but it only
seems to be a relative improvement of around 33% to me.

So even at 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 gnome-system-monitor is causing Xorg to use
40% CPU on a reasonable Core Duo (was 60% before) just to draw the CPU
graph. That's still almost one whole CPU core.

I wouldn't say this bug is fixed yet. Certainly *most* of the problem is
still present.

[Bug 202089] Re: Pulseaudio is blocking normal sound after resume

2008-05-08 Thread zpon
I have earlier had problems with gnome-power-manager (and was told it
was do to another bug - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
power-manager/+bug/196688), but yesterday I got a similar problem with
pidgin:

The sound suddenly wasn't working, and I did a killall pulseaudio,
this used to help but didn't, so instead I did ps aux | grep
pulseaudio and kill -9 , and in the same moment I got a pidgin
sound (like when you receive a message), even though it was at least an
hour since I last got one. And then the system got slow, real slow, but
i manage to open up gnome-system-monitor, and I saw that pidgin was
eating up more that 500MB of my memory. Killing pidgin made the system
run normal again.

It might be another bug again, but kind of weird it comes at the same as
the gnome-power-manager did.

[Bug 228161] [NEW] connect to a server - Windows share does not work

2008-05-08 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Gutsy Connect to server - Windows share still worked fine. Entering
my user name and password I always got write permissions.

In Hardy, when I try to connect to a Windows- or Samba-Share on a Server
in my workgroup using my user name, I am still asked for a password.
After entering my password, I get the error message can't display,
share not mounted (free translation of the german error message...).
But an icon appeares on the desktop for this share. By opening this
icon, a second icon appeares for the same share. Yet both of them are
anonymous connections without write permissions.

In Hardy I have never been able to establish a non-anonymous connection
and to get write permission via Nautilus - gvfs.

[Bug 150702] Re: alt shift tab stopped navigating windows

2008-05-08 Thread SolarEnergy
Hello there, I have reassigned this to compiz, since I have experienced
this bug on Hardy after dist-upgrade from Gutsy. But after a clean
installation of Hardy, I see this bug is FIXED - pressing/releasing
shift during the switching of windows now does reverse the direction
of switching (initiated wiht alttab), it works as expected.

There is still one inconsistency here though, when the switching dialog is
initiated with shiftalttab (press and hold shift, then press and hold
alt, then press tab - in this sequence). At first, it does exactly what I
expect. While holding shift and alt, hitting tab switches the windows in
the reverse direction. But then if the shift is released (and alt is still
held), the switching is finished, and I think it should not. It's the release
of alt what should trigger the finish of the switching, not the release of
shift. The pressing/release of shift should only trigger the direction of
the switching.

Again, I would not call this an issue, it rather an inconsistency, since
it occurs only when shiftalttab is used to initiate the switching
and I would say not many people are using that.

[Bug 117514] Re: seahorse does not synchronize keys with keyserver

2008-05-08 Thread ThomasNovin
For me it has crashed every time I do a sync. First after 2-3 minutes I
get an error about problem with communication to pgp.mit.edu 11371.
After that it crashes and I see this in my syslog:

May 8 12:37:22 thonov-ubuntu kernel: [ 3069.487809] seahorse[24677]:
segfault at 0010 eip b7454e5d esp bfe5c420 error 4

However, now when I repeated it I successfully synced two times in a
row! Since then I removed that keyserver and re-added it (custom,
hkp://pgp.mit.edu:11371). Maybe that solved it?!

[Bug 155776] Re: [Gutsy] Gucharmap doesn't display all the characters properly, even in the Latin script

2008-05-08 Thread Loïc Martin
The problem is still there. There hasn't been any activity in it
recently because nobody asked for more information (and IMHO more
information isn't really necessary, since anybody can reproduce the
bug). The bug description is complete, and the bug can be easily
reproduced by any developer willing to look at it.

Did you try it yourself (on Gutsy) before wondering if it is still an issue? It
actually isn't an issue _for_ _me_, it's an issue for any Ubuntu Gutsy user
that open gucharmap.
If you don't have Ubuntu, it is easy to reproduce the bug by booting a Gutsy
Live CD. You can download Ubuntu Live CD at http://releases.ubuntu.com/ - in
this case, you can grab the Live CD at
http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.10/ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso

Under Windows, you should be able to burn the iso directly or by using
open source programs, but I can't help you because it's not something I
really know much. If you don't have a CD recorder, you can request free
Ubuntu CD at https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ , but you'll get the newer
version.

Thanks.

[Bug 116290] Re: No choice of language for spell checking

2008-05-08 Thread Fjodor
This indeed a lack of an incredibly basic and, I imagine, most useful
feature. I have seen other apps miss this point too, though. In light of
this, wouldn't a panel app for changing the current (or default)
language for GtkSpell be a neat idea?

Best regards,

F

2008-05-08 Thread idyllic
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 with all the updates.
Kernel: tested with 2.6.24-17.31-generic as well as 2.6.24-16.30-generic

Symptom: Whenever I want to stop gdm or just shutdown my machine, I have
to wait for 30 seconds before it retried and proceed to shutdown
procedure. [Normally, it takes less than 10-15 seconds for the machine
to shutdown completely]

I caught an error in /var/log/syslog:

SIGABRT. Something went very wrong. Going down!

I have attached a system call strace.
