Totem (in 7.10) goes a little bit funny when using the reproduction steps. Keep P held down until the time bar stops moving from left to right (this seems to happen after about 6 seconds on my system). When you next unpause the seekbar will not move and the sound will never start playing. totem no longer locks up though. Not sure why its crashing, but I was able to fix the pygtk problems by making the default python version 2.4 While this may not be recommended, it did allow me to upgrade to hardy. Thanks to all. I'm using a Lindy NAS dual RAID with samba server version 3.0.20 (i see the version typing smbclient -L nasname). I'm accessing the nas with samba, i'm sure becouse i've disabled NFS server in the NAS settings, leaving enebled only samba server. My news: If i open a connection with the NAS typing in a terminal: smbclient //nasname/sharename -U=myusername and i type my password correctly, i'm able to browse the contents of the share but... after only few minutes the connection go down with this message Read from server failed, maybe it closed the connection, it's like a timeout, now i can only give ctrl+c and request the connection again because the message repeat every about 5 seconds. The problem it's like the phenomen i see in Nautilus, so after mounting the share, i'm able to browse immediatly all files but, after few minutes, if i don't use the share and i don't refresh the share content, i get this error popup Non è possibile mostrare smb//nasname/sharename/ Errore nessun dato disponibile Selezionare un altro visualizzatore e tentare di nuovo. (Translated: Impossible to display smb//nasname/sharename/ Error no data available Select another viewer and try again). After this popup, if i try to refresh some times, the connection go up again for another amount of time, and again, if i don't use the connection for some time, i get again the same popup error I don'r have all this problems browsing another samba server an a ubuntu computer (because same version?) I get a similar error using nautilus gui and copying many big files from my local folder on a NAS file server with samba 3.0.20 I've to retry some time, finally i've copied the files using windows xp. After this, no other problems i've encountered copying the files. Well uninstall all the extra gstreamer plugins. Untill my mp3's stopped playing. Started totem up and it asked for me to install a codec. I selected the Gstreamer Extra Plugins, which appear to install the Gstreamer Ugly plugin. Well still no go with the mp3 play back still the same behavour of no control of the play back. I'm running gnome-applets version 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 on Hardy x64, fully up to date (as far as apt knows, anyway - the repo is reporting 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 as the most up to date available). There was an error launching the keyboard preferences dialogue: Failed to execute child process gnome-accessibility-keyboard-properties (No such file or directory) Funny thing though, the keyboard accessibility control panel still loads, despite throwing an error. Sebastien, this has nothing to do with dependencies. Let me recapitulate the issue for you: After the default installation of Ubuntu, we have three options available in the Visual Effects tab of gnome-appearance-properties: * None * Normal * Extra In Gutsy, after you installed compizconfig-settings-manager, you additionally got * Custom AND a button labelled with Preferences The Preferences button would open up ccsm. Because ccsm is considered too confusing for the usual user, Hardy introduced simple-ccsm (which is nothing but a simplified interface to ccsm and thus depends on it). That means, the Preferences button now opens up simple-ccsm. However, neither ccsm nor simple-ccsm are installed by default (and nobody says they should). Now comes the problem: in Hardy, you have to install simple-ccsm to make BOTH the Custom option as well as the Preferences button appear. That means, if you have only ccsm installed, you won't be able to turn Compiz off in the Visual Effects tab, because you do not have an option to turn it back on, without losing your settings (Normal and Extra are prefabricated profiles). Because of that, the user has to install simple-ccsm even if (s)he doesn't need/want it (and know about the change from Gutsy to Hardy in the first place, which nobody appears to do). There are two solutions now: 1) Never hide the Custom option (no matter what is installed) 2) If ccsm is installed, show the Custom option but not the Preferences button (which will finally appear when installing simple-ccsm) Solution 2) was the one I proposed 2 months ago. But now that I think about it, I prefer solution 1) because there's no need in hiding the Custom option (itself) in the first place and there's also the possibility to configure Compiz via gconf.
