[Bug 148701] Re: Search function in File browser does not function

2008-07-19 Thread Alecz20
I haven't upgraded to hardy yet (cause of some stories on forums), and I
can confirm this bug still occurs on 7.10 with all the updates. I
believe it can be patched for 7.10, as it is my favorite distro.

The only think that I (and many other users) want is for the search
button in a folder to work as if the user went to Places-Search for
files-browse to folder

I don't know about indexing and stuff, but searching one way works fine,
while the other way doesn't work at all. Just make them work the same
(in the good way)

Thanks, and still waiting for a patch (I don't want to re-compile
anything)

I have a smilar problem.

I am using Hardy Heron and my graphic card is GeForce 9600M GT series.
So i am using the latest hardy-propesed package for the nvidia driver.

I am only able to set the brightness via nvidia-settings. Power Manager

no flickering. Nothing happens.

I posted to ubuntuforums a help request, may help you for some further

[Bug 250067] [NEW] Power Manager Brightness Applet is not dimming the backlight

2008-07-19 Thread Oguz Yarimtepe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I am using a fresh installed Hardy on my laptop. My video card is Nvidia 5600
GT and i have the latest hardy-proposed driver installed.

I am able to change my brightness via nvidia-settings. I tried to use
the Power Manager Brightness Applet to dim the backlight but adjusting
the levels at the bar didnt change anything. I tried to blacklist the
video module on startup, this time the applet is disabled.

Seems there is a problem about gpm related with Nvidia driver because i
have already spoken with another nvidia user at the #ubuntu channel who
has the same problem.

I will attach some files that may help you and will be following the
bug. So if you need further information please report me.

[Bug 237130] Re: Swahili support broken

2008-07-19 Thread Jonathan Marsden
It seems that the language-pack-sw* packages (in Hardy at least) simply
do not contain Swahili locale data. The file
/var/lib/locales/supported.d/sw is an empty file (zero bytes long),
unlike all the other files in that directory.

So, the locales package and the locale-gen program can't compile a
Swahili locale. And by design, you can't persuade gdm to let you select
a locale you don't have on your system, so the menus don't include it as
a language choice.

It might be worth mailing [EMAIL PROTECTED] to see if the
language pack maintenance team as a whole has any advice or suggestions?

Perhaps the folks you are sending out with a Ubuntu machine can actually
help create the missing locale data themselves, and contribute it back
to Ubuntu!

[Bug 246097] [NEW] Kodak program chokes on files created by gThumb

2008-07-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

My daughter had trouble when she tried to use Kodak EasyShare software,
version 4.0.4.177 to acquire pictures which I believe I created using
gThumb. I am reporting this to you as I imagine it is important to
authors of gThumb to interoperate with Kodak software. I have no
trouble making use of this site here. Problem solved by putting
unprocessed camera files in separate directory and having her download
one at a time. For example http://katieandjames.us/biggrad/100_0875.JPG

The webpage her Kodak software choked on is at
  http://www.katieandjames.us/graduation/
I created the web page, believe I used gThumb to do it.

gThumb version 2.7.9 operations on original camera files were:
* reduced pix to 1024 X 768
* created web album page
* used gFTP 2.0.18 to move page to web at
  http://katieandjames.us/graduation/

Daughter's intent is to use Kodak Easyshare software to send pictures to
Kodak and have prints made. Neither she nor I is a power user, and we
cannot answer complex questions or run complex tests. However, I will
be happy to try simple things for you, run simple tests, etc. She may
also be willing to help out with verification of simple stuff.

Follow on report: July 7 - downloaded Kodak Easyshare software (40MB+)
and tried to reproduce daughter's problem. No success at reproducing
her difficulty, and the Kodak software seems to work as one would
expect.- BobG

[Bug 189702] Re: Files transferred to K850i have truncated metadata

2008-07-19 Thread Alexander Jones
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When moving files to my Sony Ericsson K850i via Rhythmbox's MTP
functionality, the metadata is encoded in a way that the device does not
seem to like. (This is when Rhythmbox converts FLACs to MP3 on-the-fly.)

Example: Push, Strange World (2000 Remake) goes to Pu, Strange
  World (20.

This is observable both when playing music back off the device in MTP
- mode and when browsing on the phone itself.
+ mode and when browsing on the phone itself. (I guess, in MTP mode the
+ software on the phone itself parses the metadata.)

Looking at the files over UMS mode shows that the metadata is intact as
  far as GStreamer is concerned.

[Bug 148701] Re: Search function in File browser does not function

2008-07-19 Thread JC Cheloven
Hi Alecz20,
If it isn't fixed by now, chances are that devs have other priorities. Why
don't you simply give Hardy a try? It's at point 1 now, and everything works
almost fine for me.

BTW: The bug is reported, well known already, and almost surpassed by
new versions. I don't see the point on further reporting in the bug
track.

[Bug 250118] [NEW] Totem crashing gnome session gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error

2008-07-19 Thread OCP_001
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

When I open a video file, totem is sometimes crashing my entire gnome
session. The codec-type of the opened file does not matter nor the
location. It takes around 10-20 times of opening a video to get the
crash. After the crash, I am redirected to GDM and have to re-login.

The only hint about a crash is this line in the System Log Viewer:
WARNING: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting

This problem came with the release of 8.04 and is reproducible with
latest updates applied. It was not existent in 7.04 or 7.10.

[Bug 29787] Re: Backspace key in GNU Screen not detected correctly

2008-07-19 Thread Micah Cowan
That's a different problem, if it's the first line that's working for
you.

A much better solution is to keep the backspace as ^?, and make sure
stty erase ^? is set for the terminal (or that the terminal is
otherwise set to send ^?). It makes a much better choice than ^H, which
confuses some programs (notably Emacs).

[Bug 199088] Re: [Hardy] Message: Suspend Problem. Your computer failed to suspend

2008-07-19 Thread Sam
Hi,
back to topic:
It suspends to RAM, but when you resume after several hours it shows always
this message in a window: Suspend Problem. Your computer failed to suspend

I've pressed the button hibernation, screen turns black without splash and
showed a short message, something like hibernation could not be activated.
Then shutdown fast.
Start up the next day was fine, splash stops, screen isn't locked and desktop
appears very fast, only beeps and the message mentioned in the topic appeared.
For the record: amd_64, compiz, open source driver radeon x300.
Attached sum of logs.

[Bug 250165] [NEW] Undo Stores Inaccurate Characters

2008-07-19 Thread Jesdisciple
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron
gedit 2.22.3-0ubuntu1

I was editing a PHP script in gedit. I modified Line #36 from

if($file != '.'  $file != '..'){

to

if(strpos($file, '.') === FALSE){

and tested my page (in Firefox 3.0). The script exhibited undesirable
behavior, so I pressed Ctrl+Z in gedit and tested the page again. The
script then output the following string (arbitrarily alternating with a
shorter but similar one at first, but completely crowding the other out
after several page-refreshes) immediately before the expected output:

PK

Queued new job 0x643830 (GVfsJobMount)
send_reply, failed: 0
register_mount_callback, mount_reply: 0x63d0e0, error: (nil)

gvfsd-ssh does not seem to be running anywhere. Perhaps this is part of
the problem? ssh gets invoked like so:

ssh -oForwardX11 no -oForwardAgent no -oClearAllForwardings yes
-oProtocol 2 -oNoHostAuthenticationForLocalhost yes -l username -s
host sftp

Attaching gdb to the running ssh didn't seem to do anything. It tried
to load some symbols, remarking that no debugging symbols were found,
and then just waited at the (gdb) prompt and didn't do anything else.
It was probably waiting for me to do something, except I don't know how
to use gdb.

(f-spot:8054): GdkPixbuf-WARNING **: GdkPixbufLoader finalized without
calling gdk_pixbuf_loader_close() - this is not allowed. You must
explicitly end the data stream to the loader before dropping the last
reference.

and then it segfaults with this trace:

Stacktrace:

Torsten's fix seems not to work on Hardy. I get the additional output:

[Bug 216756] Re: Impossible install Gnome starting from ubuntu netboot installation

2008-07-19 Thread Michael B. Trausch
Oops. Apparently I didn't do the control.in file, and my changes kept
getting overriden. Here the one that was used to build for PPA, with an
adjusted version number to be properly included for Hardy.

Don't have Intrepid installed, and there is bound to be changes that are
additional for it; therefore, this debdiff is still just for Hardy.

[Bug 250172] [NEW] No On Battery Power tab after inserting battery

2008-07-19 Thread Ebuntor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

If Hardy, Gutsy or Feisty is booted without the battery connected to a
laptop and the battery is later inserted while the system is running
there is no On Battery Power tab shown in the Power Management
Preferences. The only way to make the tab appear is to restart the Power
Manager.

I found this problem in Hardy, Gutsy and Feisty.

[Bug 89660] i need your urgent assistance

2008-07-19 Thread robinharvey
Hello
How are you doing today? Fine I presume. My reason for writing you a
emergency letter is that I am currently traveling in Africa, to visit
my ill Sister, am sorry for not informing you before embarking on my
journey to Africa, because the news of her illness arrived to me as
EMERGENCY she is suffering from a critical uterine Fibroid and needs
family support to keep her going, her condition is deteriorating and
the doctor told me that she will under-go a surgery to keep her alive
because her fibroid has gotten worse(70pounds Large) and has done a
lot of damages to her abdominal area. They will require a deposit of
$2500 because they are inviting professional surgeons from Israel to
perform the(hysterectomy) operation because it had gotten way-out of
hand for them to handle. That brings me more to why I have written
you, I need a financial help of ($2500) from you to deposit for her
surgery, and I am traveling with little cash because I didn't expect
things to be the way it is right now. I really need this money from
you soon because I am in a terrible and tight situation here, I have
48hrs to get the money before the surgeons arrive. Even if you can't
afford the whole sum, I will appreciate whatever you are able to come
up with, because I don't even know your financial status before asking
you for money. I promise to pay you back when I return.
I am desperately waiting to read from you soon so that I will know my
faith and the next step to take.
Sincerely
Mark

[Bug 173966] Re: java plugin not working in firefox 3 on ubuntu 8.04

2008-07-19 Thread Alfas
First:
Confirmed - after installing Icedtea plugin and OpenJDK Java applets works on
FF3 (Sun JDK 6 is installed on this computer too).
Now it works on one computer, but I can not install it on another :(.

When I try to install icedtea-gcjwebpluign it shows BREAK (install).
I have Ubuntu 8.04.1
Linux alfas-laptop 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Fri Jul 11 21:01:46 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux

Any ideas how to fix this?

[Bug 250000] Re: gnome-terminal not started as an interactive shell

2008-07-19 Thread Andreas Braml
As far as my knowledge goes, this is not a bug, but exactly what bash
(or any shell in an X terminal emulator) is supposed to do.
.bash_profile is only sourced on login, not when starting a new shell.
To influence the environment of interactive shell sessions, use .bashrc

[Bug 176547] Re: show actions menu tooltip is confusing

2008-07-19 Thread Grant Bowman
Hello Pedro and Joachim,

I am also very confused as to what this checkbox is INTENDED to do.
Some guesses as to the intended meaning might be:

1. Instead of 'Show actions menu' it should read 'Hide actions menu' - but I
doubt it because of the other related checkbox.
2. In the tooltip of the checkbox When this is off should read When this is
checked
3. In the tooltip of the checkbox one of the actions should read shutdown
and restart actions
4. In the tooltip of the checkbox available anywhere really means during the
gdm login screen and during the Log Out screen. Maybe those should be
specified directly.

So instead of what it reads currently perhaps it should read When this
checked restart and shutdown actions will be available from the login
and logout screens.

A separate issue has to do with the checkbox functionality, but that
belongs in a different bug report.

[Bug 250000] Re: gnome-terminal not started as an interactive shell

2008-07-19 Thread Reuben Firmin
Ah.

But konsole (in KDE) *does* have the contents of .bash_profile
successfully picked up. So either gnome-terminal is not picking up the
environment variables set at login, or gnome isn't sourcing
.bash_profile at login.

The .bashrc is ubuntu is complicated and (at least was) partially buggy.
Users should use .bash_profile for their own settings, so it's important
that it work properly.

This is a bit OT but I read so many horror stories about Hardy

Also, I don't know what exactly point 1 fixes.
