[Bug 33673] Re: Not obvious when logout is stalled by window on another virtual desktop / window beneath front-most one / window is minimised
** Summary changed: - Logout save? dialog inaccessible - window list frozen; Not obvious when logout is stalled by window on another virtual desktop + Not obvious when logout is stalled by window on another virtual desktop / window beneath front-most one / window is minimised ** Description changed: Description of the problem: It is possible for certain programs to stall the logout process so they can ask questions. If such the program that does it is on another desktop, the only way to see that desktop is by using keybord shortcuts (plus it is not obvious that you have to check the other desktop). Steps to reproduce: 1. Make sure no gedit windows are open on any desktop. 2. Press ctrl-alt-right to switch to another desktop. 3. Go to Applications - Accessories - Text Editor. 4. When gedit appears type 'a' so the document becomes unsaved. 5. Press ctrl-alt-left to switch to original desktop. 6. Go to System - Log Out user... 7. Click on Log Out. Expected result: - Desktop to be switched to desktop containg dialog stopping the logout. gnome-panels to remain responsive until the last possible minute. + Desktop to be switched to desktop containing dialog stopping the logout. gnome-panels to remain responsive until the last possible minute. Actual results: Desktop remains on desktop not showing the logout stopping dialog. gnome-panel applets become unresponsive (Window List and Workspace Switcher no longer respond to mouse input). No indication of which desktop needs attention, only way to see the dialog is to use ctrl-alt-right . Mildly related to Bug #4406 . - Edit: - Bringing another window in front of gedit is enough to cause trouble. - gedit flashes in the taskbar, but you can't bring it to the front because the window list is frozen. - In fact, *all* gnome panels are frozen. + Additional information: + A variant of this also occurs when the gedit window is underneath another window and is completely covered or gedit is minimised. gedit flashes in the taskbar (so it is obvious that something needs to be done), but you can't bring it to the front because the window list is frozen (it is not obvious how to provide the required attention). In such cases the user may be forced to alt-tab to gedit in order to bring it to the front. -- Not obvious when logout is stalled by window on another virtual desktop / window beneath front-most one / window is minimised https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/33673 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 253571] [NEW] Address book phone numbers don't sync with palm
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution When syncing a Tungsten E with Evolution via gpilot the system does not properly sync phone numbers. Some numbers are copied to the Other number field on the Palm, sometimes it is removed from Home or Business, other times it is just copied. I'm not sure WHY this happens at all. I had similar problems with a Tungsten T3 as well. To reproduce, sync a contact with simply a name and a work number on the palm. Sync with Evolution, in Evolution the number won't appear. So, makes sense, put it in as Business Number in Evolution. Sync again, then look on the Palm. Very likely you'll see Other and Work with both the phone number in there. Now, more oddness. Remove Work (assuming it doesn't sync properly) from the Palm, so now you just have a number in Other on the Palm. Sync again, Evolution moves the number to Other now, and its gone from the Palm entirely! No freakin' idea what causes this, as it doesn't happen with entries that have Mobile, that files properly. Additionally, when having Mobile, Work, and Home, it tends to sort all that properly. [Bug 253570] [NEW] Searching may stop current song
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox There seems to be some kind of race condition that, given the right timing, will stop the current song from playing if search results are empty. To reproduce: 1) Use an automatic playlist (not sure this is needed) 2) Play a song from the playlist 3) Looking at the playlist while playing the song, try searching for something you don't have 4) Repeatedly change the search results by changing the search box values just after the search has been done. One example would be: type asdf, wait for some result and quickly do backspace and add some other letteres. Repeat this a couple of times. Result: Once in a while, it seems to be something with timing and also with empty search results, the current song will stop playing. Expected result: The current song should not be influenced at all by the kind or number of search results I get. Notes: it seems to be some kind of race condition and may or may not be related to the automatic playlist. Rhythmbox 0.11.5, amd64, Hardy. [Bug 253579] [NEW] terminal does not handle tab character in last column correctly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal If a line has a tab character in the last column, gnome-terminal does not display the tab. To reproduce: python -c 'print x*79 + \tABC' (Assuming that your terminal width is 80 characters.) Expected behavior: The terminal should display 79 xs and one tab character in the first line, and the letters ABC in the continuation line. Actual behavior: The terminal displays 79 xs and the letter A in the first line, and the letters BC in the continuation line. The tab character is lost. [Bug 239342] Re: Error starting gnome-settings-daemon while logged in via vnc
I experienced the same problem as many have already mentioned - namely gnome-settings-daemon fails when accessing the GNOME GUI via vnc4server. After a little experimentation and research, I discovered what I think is a solution (or at least an easy workaround). What works for me is to add the argument +extension XInputExtension to the vnc4server invocation. A most basic example would be: vnc4server :1 +extension XInputExtension In other words, it seems as though the XInputExtension *is* compiled into vnc4server (contrary to what some indicated), but is not activated by default. Therefore, this explicit activation of the extension resolves the issue. [Bug 74360] Re: Several compose key combinations don't work
I had some troubles with c cedilla (like Ç, instead Ć). In Brazil we type ' + c (acute plus c) to do ć. But when running Firefox32 with Kubuntu 64 bits, GTK fails to load the 32 bit cedilla IM module. GTK always load the 64 bit module version. I workaround it changing the internal references to the string cedilla from the im-cedilla.so 32 bit version to cedil32 and setting the environment variable GTK_IM_MODULE to cedil32 (only to Firefox32 - I change its script). Also I include the im-cedil32.so into the 64 bit GTK IM module configuration file: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules I include the following two lines: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodules/im-cedil32.so cedil32 Cedil32 gtk20 /usr/share/locale az:ca:co:fr:gvct:sq:tr:wa:en:us Now after many search and trying, I can type '+c to get ć More details at: http://www.marciowb.net/blog/2008/07/c-acentuado-vs-c-cedilha-no-firefox32 Regards, Marcio Wesley Borges http://www.marciowb.net/blog -- Several compose key combinations don't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/74360 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 239342] Re: Error starting gnome-settings-daemon while logged in via vnc
gconftool-2 --set --type boolean /apps/gnome-settings- daemon/plugins/mouse/active false does not work. sudo gconftool-2 --set --type boolean /apps/gnome-settings- daemon/plugins/mouse/active false does not work. rebooted after both just to be sure (as I wasn't sure if the change was immediate or not). An observation: When VNC is first launched, the theme I've chosen displays fine. When a new window is opened (say terminal or firefox or any other app), I notice the theme reverts to a default them (presumably because the settings daemon crashed?), then if the daemon successfully relaunches, I get my themed desktop back. One surefire way to crash the daemon for good is to launch firefox and just wait. the daemon repeated crashes and the themes go back and forth about 5 or 10 times, then the dialog comes up saying the daemon crashed too many times and is disabled, after which, I have a stable (but not themed) desktop. -- Error starting gnome-settings-daemon while logged in via vnc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/239342 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
