[Bug 259630] Re: The default IP address does not ping . when i restart the machine it pings successfully but, only for a short period .

2008-08-20 Thread Stefano Maioli
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, , because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Hello Andreas,

Yes this bug is still here in Ubuntu 8.04. In fact to my mind it has
gone backwards because I now sometimes get the standard You have just
pressed two keys together or--- etc. well after the first time after
not having done the accused deed. This action seemed to be cured
previously but has now come back.

I do not know if you are aware that sticky keys does not work at all
under WINE and the original bug is. I think, is also seen under all KDE
distros that I have tried.

Do not hesitate to contact me if I can help further.

[Bug 259648] Re: totem movie player crashes when seeking between movies and audio

2008-08-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

right, when you don't know if the bug is an upstream one report it to
the distributor, in this case the bug is clearly a GNOME choice and will
not be changed in a distribution specific way so either it's sent on

probably not get any change

[Bug 214573] Re: [Hardy Beta] calendar applet freezes Gnome Panel

2008-08-20 Thread Nathaniel Smith
I can confirm this bug -- it bit me today on up-to-date hardy, and seems very
likely to be an issue with evolution's Google calendar support. My timeline:
  * Used hardy for months, no problems
  * Added a google calendar to evolution (Using New - Calendar - Type:
Google). Discovered that it didn't work (it seemed to add the calendar, but
never showed any events). Poked and prodded it for a bit; gave up.
  * Continued to use hardy for a few weeks, no problems
  * A few hours ago, discovered that clicking on the clock applet in the panel
caused the background to go depressed and then the entire panel to freeze.
This is perfectly consistent -- restarting the panel, rebooting, etc. all cause
the panel to start working again, but it freezes as soon as I click on the
clock.
  * I opened evolution and discovered that it had, somehow, in the last day or
so, decided to actually start loading the google calendar.
  * I deleted the google calendar from evolution, and restarted the panel; now
it works fine.

So the timing makes it look like some issue with that calendar -- when
the calendar appeared, my panel stopped working, and removing the
calendar fixed the panel.

Further details: I have other webcal calendars in evolution (New -
Calendar - Type: On the web), also pulled from google, as it happens,
but not using the Google calendar type and not requiring
authentication. So it may be something specific to the special Google
support plugin.

Since the Type: Google option didn't work, I also tried adding the
same calendar as a generic webcal feed. It prompted for authentication
etc., but never loaded events, and still hasn't. Possibly if it ever
starts loading events it will freeze my panel too. So it may be
something specific to authenticating to google over webcal, I dunno.

The google calendar in question is in a Google Apps For Your Domain
account.

[Bug 259665] [NEW] msg is signed but there is no corresponding public key

2008-08-20 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 8.04
Evolution 2.22.3.1

What happens
* I get a gpg signed message from someone whose public key is not in my keyring.
* Evolution says Signature exists, but need public key. When I click on the
wax seal icon I get more information as below:

gpg: WARNING: unsafe enclosing directory permissions on configuration file
`/home/duncan/.gnupg/gpg.conf'
gpg: armor header: Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux)
gpg: Signature made 2007-10-31T23:19:27 CET using DSA key ID 8AB6137F
gpg: Can't check signature: public key not found

* This information is either wrong or something is broken. The public
key is on at least one of the listed key servers in Seahorse and
Seahorse is set to automatically retrieve remote keys.

What I expected
* I get a gpg signed message from someone whose public key is not in my keyring.
* Evolution either
   * Retrieves the public from a key server and announces that the mess* age is
signed correctly
   or
   * Tries to retrieve the public key, but something goes wrong, it tells me
what has gone wrong ('Seahorse is not configured to automatically retrieve
remote public keys. Please adjust your settings' or 'Seahorse reports that the
remote public key is not found on the listed key servers')

In either case the current wording of the message is not useful, 'public
key not found' does not help me solve the cause of the problem. did
evolution try to find it? did seahorse tyr and fail? why was it not
found?

** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)

[Bug 153518] Re: sticky keys disarms after idle period

2008-08-20 Thread greatquizzard
I would like to add to what Colin has said - the problem still remains
in Ubuntu 8.04, and has in fact got worse in it. Sticky Keys keeps
getting deactivated EVEN IF two keys aren't pressed together. And even
if the box next to 'disable sticky keys if two keys are pressed
together' is UNCHECKED in the config dialog, it still keeps on
deactivating Sticky Keys anyway. The worst bit is that the prompt which
comes up (You have just pressed two keys together... with the activate
/ deactivate buttons) isn't able to grab focus from any currently opened
applications. I need to minimise all windows, and only then that dialog
box shows up. Even if I click the button to keep Sticky Keys activated,
it deactivates it anyway. The only way to get around this (as far as I
know) is to go to the accessibility options, and then deactivate and
activate Sticky Keys.

I have not encountered a similar problem in KDE distros. This problem
also exists in Xubuntu, and the symptoms are pretty much the same,
except that Xubuntu doesn't give a prompt before deactivating sticky
keys.

Good to see it's fixed..
I was just about to report it, because now i'm able to reproduce this.

This bug happens when you have multiple gnome-terminal's opened. And
*if* you close one *window* (and not exit the shell), and afterwards you
change a profile setting... then the crash happens.

Hope this is fix is in ubuntu soon..

[Bug 259707] [NEW] Title bar displays gibberish

2008-08-20 Thread fuzzynoise
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I'm using evince 2.22.2 on ubuntu 8.04.
When opening a certain pdf document the title bar of evince displays gibberish
characters instead of the proper filename the document. I've attached the .pdf
that reproduces the problem.. hope it helps.

p.s. the attached pdf has text in greek but it displays correctly on my
computer, so I highly doubt it's a matter of language support.

[Bug 157786] Re: Mass Storage Device is not detected

2008-08-20 Thread Michi26
I have tried this camera with Ubuntu Hardy.

When I plug in the camera, a dialog appears saying something like A
camera has been detected In the background f-spot launches and a
dialog appears where I can choose the camera to import from: There are
three choices:

Mass Storage Device
USB
USB

Only the Mass Storage Device works. The other two result in an
I/O-Error.

My interpretation is as follows:
The camera is detected simultaneously as a Mass Storage Device and as a
USB-Camera. That's why both F-Spot and this dialog A camera has been detected
launch simultaneously. But only the Mass Storage Mode seems to work. In fact,
if I choose Import pictures from the A camera has been detected-dialog,
f-spot launches a second time with exactly the same three choices.

3. pdftk A.pdf attach_files B.pdf to_page 4 output A_attached.pdf
4. open A_attached.pdf with evince.
5. go to page 4
6. no attachment appears

see any documentation about this being a supported feature, so is there

[Bug 259727] [NEW] gnome-keyboard-properties doesn't work correctly

2008-08-20 Thread Liam Zwitser
Public bug reported:

I have been trying to get the usa international with dead keys keyboard
layout to work, do I can create an accented e with ' + e, for example,
and an umlaut with shift + ' + u . Selecting this layout in keyboard
preferences however only worked untill I restarted the x-server / my
computer, and for some reason, doesn't work at all anymore now. this is
my current xorg.conf keyboard section:

Section InputDevice
Identifier Generic Keyboard
Driver kbd
Option CoreKeyboard
Option XkbRules xorg
Option XkbModel pc105
Option XkbLayout us
Option XkbVariant intl
EndSection

Now how can I set it so that dead keys work as described above, and why
doesn't gnome-keyboard-properties work? I think it has somehthing to do
with permissions, becasue the program doesn't ask for your pasword, and
/etc/X11/xorg.conf requires root permissions to save any changes in it.
Also, when I log in as root, by typing startx from a root terminal,
and I select the keyboard layout (graphically), the program works fine.
(until I restart the xserver / reboot the computer, then the dead keys
don't work anymore, just like before)

I tracked this down to a network setting.  I had set a domain name, but only
run Windows as a workgroup.
Once I removed the Domain, the synaptics package manager started working in the
GNOME environment.
Thanks for the contact.

with email addresses and dates.
