[Bug 250067] Re: Power Manager Brightness Applet is not dimming the backlight
I have the same problem, but I don't think you expanded on it much. Because of the power manager for gnome isn't loading on startup, it causes a awkward delay in logging off or shutting down. However, if you goto change the settings for the power manager, it loads up and does it's job. However, trying it out first by adding org.freedesktop.hal.power-management.suspend to the user did not result in the ability to suspend. I was seeing a similiar message related to suspending when closing my laptop immediately after upgrading, but before a reboot, after which, suspension was no longer offered as an option. [Bug 251211] Re: intrepid session dialog experience
There is no sensible way to convey that there are half a dozen different variations on quitting an Ubuntu session, because that's not a sensible situation. Our current long-term plan for solving this is described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/Specs/ExitStrategy. Until that is implemented, I would have preferred not to have any changes to the Quit dialog used from Dapper to Hardy, because people would then need to relearn the interface twice (once now, once then) rather than once. However, for technical reasons using that same Quit dialog in Intrepid would require reimplementing it, which we don't have the resources for. That leaves us with two unpleasant choices: the two dialogs currently used in Intrepid, or a single dialog combining all the options. I don't think it particularly matters either way, but staying with the two dialogs requires less work, and lets us use the time we'd spend merging them on fixing other problems. ** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu Intrepid) Status: Triaged = Invalid -- intrepid session dialog experience https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/251211 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 38512] Re: Window close should close, not quit
In my opinion, there should be consistency among all gnome apps, so the default should be not quitting but closing, for reason that I longly explained. If I have to resort to a preference, I personally don't care if it's a plugin or a hidden setting or whatever: I will be able to choose what I want. I don't care on how the option is presented because if it's not the default it is useful only for us hackers/nerds/whatever. My concern is for new users who will _not_ care or be able to hunt for a setting, and just experience and enjoy an inconsistence between the following installed by default applications: pidgin, networkmanager, tracker- desktop-search as started from the tracker notification icon, AND rhythmbox which behaves differently. Not to speak of the applets which sit near the notification icon (e.g. gnome-volume-manager). All the colored icons in the upper right corner of the screen (as I might describe them to my mother on the phone), THEY ALL, open windows when clicked in various ways, and all these colored icons DON'T DISAPPEAR when that window is closed. Rhythmbox is the only exception. I have my plugin, I can set my own preference, fancy if I care anymore - expecially because my mother does not listen to music. I might say that, forgetting any attention I might have for other ubuntu users, I am happy with the current situation. -- Window close should close, not quit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/38512 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 38512] Re: Window close should close, not quit
Just to be constructive I could add that a different _proper_ solution to me seems the following: just don't have a notification area icon by default. [Bug 272584] Re: No colour conversion when image does not have embedded ICC profile
Attached are the following files: eog_screenshot.jpg - left image is correctly displayed (this is how it is displayed also in GIMP with colour management active), right image has wrong colours (too saturated red). image_sRGB.jpg - test image with embedded ICC profile (sRGB). image_no_icc_im.jpg - test image without embedded ICC profile. The profile was stripped by convert image_sRGB.jpg +profile icc image_no_icc_im.jpg It appears to me that image_no_icc_im.jpg was not converted to the monitor profile and displayed as-is - i.e. on wide gamut monitor it appears over-saturated. Few notes: My monitor is Samsung XL20 capable of displaying gamut close to AdobeRGB. The monitor profile was created by ArgyllCMS; xcalib set the profile to update LUT (or rather X gamma curves) and the xicc atom, which is supposedly used by EoG, GIMP and few other applications. The eog_screenshot.jpg was assigned the monitor profile (i.e. wide gamut) and converted to sRGB with perceptual rendering intent so that it displays correctly on standard monitors even in applications not supporting colour management. NB that on a standard monitor, which has gamut close to sRGB, you probably won't see a significant difference between the two test images, since their gamut is sRGB, too. ** Attachment added: Screenshot of EoG, 2 test images http://launchpadlibrarian.net/17954958/eog_bug.tar.gz -- No colour conversion when image does not have embedded ICC profile https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272584 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
