[Bug 259383] Re: Imap in evolution doesn't work

This bug is still present for me in 2.24.0, please re-open and let me
know what further information is necessary. I've attached the output of
running evolution --debug, hitting send/receive, and still not seeing
the proper updates of the content of my IMAP inbox.

Hello i checked it against i386 now, sound-juicer reports the missing
album. When pressing the report button, a firefox open up the
musicbrainz login page. This did not happen on amd64, where the
described error occurs. The 2.22.0 on i386 seems to be clean.

Musicbrainz album insertion then is a mess, they dont really want new
albums but this is not an ubuntu bug.

[Bug 250067] Re: Power Manager Brightness Applet is not dimming the backlight

2008-09-25 Thread Zachs Kappler
I have the same problem, but I don't think you expanded on it much.
Because of the power manager for gnome isn't loading on startup, it
causes a awkward delay in logging off or shutting down. However, if you
goto change the settings for the power manager, it loads up and does
it's job. I have had the battery on my laptop die without warning
because the power manager ALSO controls that too.

[Bug 267331] Re: Suspend no longer allowed in Intrepid

2008-09-25 Thread James Blackwell
I suspect policykit because attempts to use the Shut down the computer
applet leaves the following snippet in /var/log/syslog (take particular
note to Not privileged for action.

Sep 25 03:10:34 comet console-kit-daemon[5895]: GLib-GObject-WARNING:

/proc/13008/environ: Failed to open file '/proc/13008/environ': Too many open

I'm pretty sure I can fix the powerdown problem by running polkit-auth
to add the permission to the user. However, trying it out first by
adding org.freedesktop.hal.power-management.suspend to the user did not
result in the ability to suspend. I was seeing a similiar message
related to suspending when closing my laptop immediately after
upgrading, but before a reboot, after which, suspension was no longer
offered as an option.

This system predates policykit, so I suspect that the package is
assuming settings made during initial install that are not provided
during upgrades.

[Bug 27014] Re: evolution bug, Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

2008-09-25 Thread Michael Flaig
Just a few words that this problem is currently very annoying :-(

Yesterday I removed all summary files and evo could store correctly.
Today morning Evo hang and I had to quit it by evolution --force-shutdown.
Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync is back, so status changes
(reply status, mark as read, etc) don't get saved als long as this error
occures. also mail duplicates happen again.

I see this problem only with the POP3 account for now.
My IMAP accounts are good, no problems with summary there, yet.

[Bug 267724] Re: file-roller crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

I tested this running as Human (the dust theme archive was one that

I retested with a different tar.gz file, selecting Open with... for a
text file within it. I experienced this crash again. This was using an
older version of Intrepid (by about a week or so).

After upgrading - still using the Human theme - I retested on the same
file and it now works.

Nick, are you still getting this issue after the latest update?

[Bug 267331] Re: Suspend no longer allowed in Intrepid

2008-09-25 Thread Alan Knowles

This is what gnome-power-manager calls to determine if it should show suspend.
(run as normal user, not root)

bus-send --session --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.PowerManagement
--type=method_call --reply-timeout=6000 /org/freedesktop/PowerManagement
org.freedesktop.PowerManagement.CanSuspend
it should say true, but it actually says false.

To try and get it to suspend from the command line:
bus-send --session --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.PowerManagement
--type=method_call --reply-timeout=6000 /org/freedesktop/PowerManagement
org.freedesktop.PowerManagement.Suspend int32:0

By changing the file /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/hal-system-power-suspend-linux

and removing this bit,
#if [ $seconds_to_sleep != 0 ] ; then
#alarm_not_supported
#fi
And changing:/usr/lib/pm-utils/pm-functions

[Bug 221007] [NEW] [patch] bad interpreter (python 2.4) given for pygtk-demo

2008-09-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: python-gtk2-doc

Under Hardy (rc updated daily), I installed the package python-gtk2-doc
and ran pygtk-demo; I got the following:

bash: /usr/bin/pygtk-demo: /usr/bin/python2.4: bad interpreter: No
such file or directory

Right, I don't have python2.4 installed. So - one would say - it is a
missing dependency.

I don't think so, since just giving the command python /usr/bin/pygtk-
demo works flawlessy, so 2.4 is just not needed. So the problem is just
in the first line, #! /usr/bin/python2.4, which should (maybe, I'm no
expert) be changed to #! /usr/bin/python (assuming we have no more old
pythons around).

[Bug 216266] Re: Usplash without progress bar on shutdown.

2008-09-25 Thread Id2ndR
The behavior changed in Intrepid, but it's not good so far.

Now, each time you launch gdmsetup, it will add 3 empty line more into
/etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom beetween current GraphicalTheme directive and
[chooser]. Consequently usplash disappear at shutdown when it was OK.

By the way it seams that it needs to have only one empty line between
each non empty line to get usplash working correctly in Intrepid.

[Bug 225361] Re: Superuser cannot access ~/.gvfs folder when mounted

2008-09-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
upstream closed the bug as not a gvfs one

This is all unfortunate, but its a decision that has been taken by the fuse
people at the kernel level (user others than the one who mounted the fs can't
access it, including root) and there is nothing we can do about it.

[Bug 251211] Re: intrepid session dialog experience

2008-09-25 Thread Scott James Remnant
** Summary changed:

- intrepid uses the upstream session dialog
+ intrepid session dialog experience

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: gnome-session
+ Intrepid has a new set of session dialogs, Log Out and Shut Down (with
+ Lock Screen as a separate menu item) that replace the previous Quit
+ dialog. These come from SuSE patches that are expected to be eventually
+ upstream.

- The new gnome-session is mostly a rewrital which means the ubuntu
- session changes need to be rewritten if we still want to use the same
- dialog. Upstream plans to merge the opensuse dialog meanwhile so we
- might want to consider using this one as an option
+ Log Out has:
+ Log Out
+ Switch User
+
+ Shut Down has:
+ Shut Down
+ Restart
+ Suspend
+ Hibernate
+
+ We also will now have Ted's fast-user-switch-applet in the top right by
+ default, providing quick access to the Switch User functionality as well
+ as the other options here.
+
+ There is a remaining decision:
+
+ Are two dialogs better than one? In previous Ubuntu releases, we only
+ ever had one Quit dialog that contained all of the available options.
+ This now gives us two, and for the first time (in Ubuntu) attempts to
+ establish a difference between Log Out and Shut Down.
+
+ Switching between Users is very arguably completely covered by the new
+ applet, and Lock Screen is happy as its own menu item (it never fitted
+ in the list otherwise).
+
+ Thus should we merge the two dialogs back into one Quit dialog, that
+ would simply add the Log Out option?
+
+ Quit:
+ Log Out
+ Shut Down
+ Restart
+ Suspend
+ Hibernate

[Bug 159042] [NEW] Nautilus is very slow in list mode with assistive technologies enabled

2008-09-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I open a folder with many files (for example '/usr/lib') Nautilus
is very very slow in 'list display' if Assistive Technologies is
enabled.

Disabling Assistive Technologies via the preferences dialog restores
performance (opening a large folder takes a second or two rather than 30
seconds or more).

I have 3 GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo at 1.83 GHz. Brasero did seem to be
using a lot of CPU for just burning a CD, but there was also enough room
for my BOINC to keep running, so I don't think it was having a problem
getting processor time.

[Bug 274378] [NEW] Nautilus sees my media-player as a picture-CD

2008-09-25 Thread Thomas van der Burgt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I insert my media-player I get 2 popups, one tells me it is a digital
audio-player (which is correct) and one
that tells me it is a digital picture cd and asks if I want to open it in
f-spot.

There are indeed pictures on the device (only 4 wallpapers). But it is
silly to call it a picture-CD

[Bug 251211] Re: intrepid session dialog experience

2008-09-25 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
There is no sensible way to convey that there are half a dozen different
variations on quitting an Ubuntu session, because that's not a sensible
situation. Our current long-term plan for solving this is described in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/Specs/ExitStrategy.

Until that is implemented, I would have preferred not to have any
changes to the Quit dialog used from Dapper to Hardy, because people
would then need to relearn the interface twice (once now, once then)
rather than once. However, for technical reasons using that same Quit
dialog in Intrepid would require reimplementing it, which we don't have
the resources for.

That leaves us with two unpleasant choices: the two dialogs currently
used in Intrepid, or a single dialog combining all the options. I don't
think it particularly matters either way, but staying with the two
dialogs requires less work, and lets us use the time we'd spend merging
them on fixing other problems.

[Bug 274197] Re: GPM Icon locks on AC Status change

2008-09-25 Thread Chorca
Checked after latest updates, issue still occurring. I've attached a
screenshot of the desktop that shows what happens when unplugging the AC
Adaptor from the laptop. The tooltip in the corner and the garbled box
at the bottom are stuck there for approx. 1 minute.

[Bug 38512] Re: Window close should close, not quit

2008-09-25 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
In my opinion, there should be consistency among all gnome apps, so the
default should be not quitting but closing, for reason that I longly
explained. If I have to resort to a preference, I personally don't care
if it's a plugin or a hidden setting or whatever: I will be able to
choose what I want.

I don't care on how the option is presented because if it's not the
default it is useful only for us hackers/nerds/whatever. My concern is
for new users who will _not_ care or be able to hunt for a setting, and
just experience and enjoy an inconsistence between the following
installed by default applications: pidgin, networkmanager, tracker-
desktop-search as started from the tracker notification icon, AND
rhythmbox which behaves differently. Not to speak of the applets which
sit near the notification icon (e.g. gnome-volume-manager). All the
colored icons in the upper right corner of the screen (as I might
describe them to my mother on the phone), THEY ALL, open windows when
clicked in various ways, and all these colored icons DON'T DISAPPEAR
when that window is closed. Rhythmbox is the only exception. I have my
plugin, I can set my own preference, fancy if I care anymore -
expecially because my mother does not listen to music. I might say that,
forgetting any attention I might have for other ubuntu users, I am happy
with the current situation.

[Bug 38512] Re: Window close should close, not quit

2008-09-25 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Just to be constructive I could add that a different _proper_ solution
to me seems the following: just don't have a notification area icon by
default. Thus, rhythmbox would act like totem and no inconsistency would
be experienced. This bug is already fix-released and I shouldn't be
commenting anymore, I know.

[Bug 173350] Re: Caps lock LED changes state even when caps lock is mapped to ctrl

2008-09-25 Thread Chris Jones
I was seeing this on my Thinkpad X300 in Hardy, but after upgrading to
test Intrepid alphas, the problem has gone away, so I believe this is
fixed somehow.

[Bug 274412] [NEW] Battery icon won't disappear once battery is charged

2008-09-25 Thread Mathieu Marquer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Using gpm 2.24.0-0ubuntu2 on Ubuntu Intrepid up-to-date.

When I plug AC power on my computer, the battery is correctly shown as
charging. But when it is full, the icon won't disappear, even if I've
set display icon only when charging/discharging. There is no problem
if I start the computer with AC power plugged-in and don't unplug it.

Please let me know if you need additionnal informations.

[Bug 272584] Re: No colour conversion when image does not have embedded ICC profile

2008-09-25 Thread Milan Knizek
Attached are the following files:

eog_screenshot.jpg - left image is correctly displayed (this is how it
is displayed also in GIMP with colour management active), right image
has wrong colours (too saturated red).

image_sRGB.jpg - test image with embedded ICC profile (sRGB).

image_no_icc_im.jpg - test image without embedded ICC profile. The
profile was stripped by convert image_sRGB.jpg +profile icc
image_no_icc_im.jpg

It appears to me that image_no_icc_im.jpg was not converted to the
monitor profile and displayed as-is - i.e. on wide gamut monitor it
appears over-saturated.

Few notes:

My monitor is Samsung XL20 capable of displaying gamut close to
AdobeRGB. The monitor profile was created by ArgyllCMS; xcalib set the
profile to update LUT (or rather X gamma curves) and the xicc atom,
which is supposedly used by EoG, GIMP and few other applications.

The eog_screenshot.jpg was assigned the monitor profile (i.e. wide
gamut) and converted to sRGB with perceptual rendering intent so that it
displays correctly on standard monitors even in applications not
supporting colour management.

NB that on a standard monitor, which has gamut close to sRGB, you
probably won't see a significant difference between the two test images,
since their gamut is sRGB, too.

This bug exists also in Intrepid after today's updates. I was playing
content just fine this morning, did an update and now no sound. When I
use totem it shows the error. I have tried the ALSA suggestion and the
pulseaudio suggetion in sound setting and it does not work.

[Bug 191027] Re: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument

2008-09-25 Thread dreamstogo
I found a comment in another post
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=927784) that this affects any
app using gstreamer and that VLC is not affected.

I can confirm this. I tried television, video, music with totem no luck;
with vlc it works.

Also the choppyness of the music in vlc has been solved (I think this
was a pulseaudio problem)
