[Bug 275068] [NEW] artist and album unknown with a copy

2008-09-27 Thread prevot
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

First, sorry for my english

When I put a CD in my CD driver, Rythmbox give all the informations :
titles, artist and album.

But when I copy it in my library, a register (dossier) is created at the
right way on my computer (artistalbumtitles) but in the library, all
the titles are put in unknown and I must give the name of the artist
and the album myself.

I don't understand.

[Bug 270700] Re: rhythmbox freezes(sound keeps playing) after selecting position on the timeline-bar with crossfading on

2008-09-27 Thread Hew McLachlan
I'm having the same/similar issue. Using the xfade backend makes
navigating impossible. If I move the slider, the song will often stop
(while the slider can still be moved, having no effect), or rhythmbox
just freezes. I have attached my log where I got the song-stopping

using ALSA, but pulseaudio has the same issue.

[Bug 8810] Re: Minimize evolution to tray

2008-09-27 Thread cthielen
As of Ubuntu 8.04 with Evolution 2.22.3.1, Evolution still does not have
the ability to minimize to tray. Please note this is different from
minimizing to the taskbar, which any app under Metacity/etc can do. The
system tray is the upper right corner area where Evolution displays a
new mail icon when you have new mail. Typically, apps that have this
allow you to click that tray icon and the app disappears from sight, and
from the taskbar, only to reappear when you run it again. It's a logical
way to keep certain apps running that perform important background
tasks. Pidgin is an app that does this correctly.

[Bug 114413] Re: Please let me turn off ALL notification popups

2008-09-27 Thread scientus
this was a one part of me half moving back to windows for my primary
desktop. In windows the issues are so bad and widespread that its easy
to google how to turn them off while in ubuntu they are only now
creeping in, and therefore people have not gotten around them yet. its
like how Firefox broke the web with the new ssl bulls**t. you should
tell users recommendations and with update, have easy auto updates, But
there should definitely be a way to turn off all OS messages telling
users what to do, and ways to dismiss messages such as the restart now
(after you have restarted X to get new video drivers) when such
instructions can then even be wrong.

Note i still use ubuntu in multiple vms and it is generally good but im
afraid, seeing how firefox is becoming corrupted. It should *definitely*
*not* go the way of microsoft---put that type of stuff in the
documentation, have a quality tutorial, maybe allow users to turn on a
verbose -help me!- mode, but *never ever* force knowledgeable users to
stoop to the level of the least common denominator or your most
knowledgeable users will start thinking of turning the -next- friendly
distribution.

[Bug 268141] [NEW] no ssh-agent after resume from hibernate

2008-09-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: seahorse

After resume from hibernate (and not suspend) seahorse-daemon and
seahorse-agent processes are not running, and there is no other ssh-
agent available making it annoying to use ssh, and impossible to use
sftp mounts in nautilus.

Steps to reproduce:

1- ps x | grep seahorse
2- hibernate and resume (I use gnome-power-manager)
3- ps x | grep seahorse

Step 3 returns nothing for me. Step 1 returns something like:
 9554 ?Ss 0:00 seahorse-agent
 9560 ?Ss 0:00 seahorse-daemon

This is in Ubuntu 8.04, with latest updates. Seahorse version is

[Bug 260923] Re: Trigger import twice and Evolution crashes

2008-09-27 Thread J . Pablo Fernández
OK, I'll try to be more clear. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04, Evolution
2.22.3.1

1. File - Import
2. Forward
3. Import a Single file
4. Forward
5. Filename: pick up an mbox file. Note: Filetype automatically set to Berkeley
Mailbox (mbox)
6. Destination folder: import. Note: this is a folder I created, I don't have
any reason why another folder would make any difference.
7. Forward
8. Import
9. Import. Note: yes, click import again. This can happen because the importing
progress window gets hidden if you switch to another application and come back
to Evolution.

I think it should not be possible at all to click import a second time,
but if it is, it shouldn't crash (or import the data twice or any other
thing like that).

Thank you.

[Bug 268141] Re: no ssh-agent after resume from hibernate

2008-09-27 Thread Felipe Figueiredo
I originally reported this bug against seahorse, since it appears as
argument to ssh-agent in the processes list.

I'd like to correct the testcase. Although it happened that seahorse
died when I decided to post the bug, I cannot reproduce it, therefore
I'm forced to attribute this event to chance.

I confirm that the ssh-agent is not functional after hibernate, and now
I have a new test-case that I can reproduce at will.

Test case:
1- ps x | egrep agent|keyring
2- hibernate and thaw
3- ps x | egrep agent|keyring

Step 1 returns:
 7174 ?Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/seahorse-agent --execute
sh /home/philsf/.xsession
 7243 ?Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/seahorse-agent --execute sh
/home/philsf/.xsession
 7291 ?SL 0:00 /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon

Step 3 returns:
7174 ?Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/seahorse-agent --execute
sh /home/philsf/.xsession
7243 ?Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/seahorse-agent --execute sh
/home/philsf/.xsession

So, gnome-keyring-daemon is the process that dies. I'm assigning the bug
to gnome-keyring package. This is gnome-keyring 2.22.2-0ubuntu1.

The relevant directories in /tmp (/tmp/ssh-* and /tmp/keyrin*) are not
deleted, but the pipe can't be reused without restarting gnome-keyring-
daemon, and there's no documentation on how to restart it reusing the
existing socket for this reason I can't use the workaround in bug
#99065.

Also, why does gnome-keyring-daemon crashes in the first place? The
following is the only relevant line in $HOME/.xsession-errors

** Message: another SSH agent is running at: /tmp/ssh-
UZKukL7062/agent.7062

This appears to be the same message I get from g-k-d, if I try to start
it manually after hibernating. The process daemonizes, but there's no
ssh-agent to be used:

$ ssh localhost
Error reading response length from authentication socket.
Enter passphrase for key '/home/philsf/.ssh/id_dsa':

[Bug 273031] Re: evolution crashes as soon as I start to type a message in email

I am having a similar problem: newly installed ubuntu 8.10 alpha amd64. As soon
as I start typing in the body of a new message either the composer window and
the main Evolution window go grey and freeze, requiring me to force quit, or
(more often) the app crashes and vanishes.
I can receive mail via evolution, but have to use a webmail service to send

I have sent the crash report in /var/crash via apport.

[Bug 274146] Re: Has not yet replaced the existing log out applet

2008-09-27 Thread Laura Cowen
I raised bug #274576 which has been marked as a duplicate of this bug.

I don't quite understand all the options described above but I think the
bug I raised is related but actually not a duplicate. The bug I raised
wasn't about the placement of the new fast-switch button, but the fact
that the new button does not contain all the functionality of the old
applet - the main thing being that I can't 'shutdown' from the new
button. Is this intentional or should the new button include all the old
options?

[Bug 212098] Re: easy file sharing not notifying about logout/login

2008-09-27 Thread blahblahblah
Hi, I thought I'd chime in. I'm a java programmer with 14 year of Win32
experience.
I'm a ubuntu virgin though. When I tried to share a folder I did it like I
would on OSX/win32: First, I tried to share a drive (fail), so I then tried a
folder, found the 'sharing option'.

Went in there, added the non-installed bits, and when I tried to create
my share, bang, error message '255 etc'. Barely noticeable as well since
the message is displayed at the bottom of the window.

So what do you think a linux virgin did? I remembered about this
'gksudo' thing,... you imagine the rest.

This IS a bug - the only way around it would be 1) make sure it's
shareable immediately or 2) inform the user clearly that a re-login is
needed.

My two cents of course. Oh and by the way, a 'normal' user would be
unable to even find this launchpad page, and would give up on sharing
folders in ubuntu very quickly.

[Bug 86749] Re: evince does not automatically set or remember the paper size

2008-09-27 Thread Spohl
I've the same problem, but as I can remember it only occurs if the
system language is set to english(US States).

From other PCs I know that evince can remember papersize A4, but there
the default language is German(Germany). So it definitely has to do with
language settings. Maybe thats helpfull.

[Bug 274146] Re: Has not yet replaced the existing log out applet

2008-09-27 Thread James Westby
Hi Laura,

There are a few issues that have conspired to leave the confusing state
that you saw.

Firstly, the old shut down button was an Ubuntu patch to have everything
in one dialog. The code changed underneath it from Hardy to Intrepid, so it
would
have to have been re-written. This wasn't done immediately though as other
options were being considered.

The current state is that the green man is just for logout, and the user is
expected
to go to System-Shut Down... to suspend or shut down the machine. This is
the current functionality of the upstream code, but it is being discussed there,
and they will possibly move to a single dialog as Ubuntu had (this is in the
9.04
timeframe).

As well as this the fast-user-switch applet (the one that has your name in it)
has been improved to, as well as switching users, show your IM status, and offer
shutdown options. This will be the default in the top right in Intrepid, with
the
green man not in the panel. I believe this is now the default, and it may have
been that you installed just after the change was made.

This bug is a discussion about the best way to transition users who still have
the green man to using the user-switch applet, which provides all of the
options
in one. I believe that is why your bug was marked a duplicate, as this bug is
trying to transition users to a situation where they have all the options in one
place again.

Thanks,

James

[Bug 271895] Re: update f-spot to 0.5

Updates only happen at this stage in the release cycle if the benefits
outweigh the risks. We need to know exactly which bugs are fixed, and a
link to their bug numbers.

Also gsoc has *just* finished. How much testing has new gsoc code
received?

There's no doubt it'll end up in jaunty, but newest and shiniest isn't a
good enough justification post feature freeze.

[Bug 223060] Re: doesn't send some keys to the remote computer

2008-09-27 Thread Noel J. Bergman
This bug needs to be re-opened, or another one opened it its place.

Vinagre (2.24) under Intrepid is again broken due to keyboard bindings.
The CTRL-ALT sequence previously used to grab the keyboard no longer
works, there is no menu choice to effect the same, and keys such as a
simple CTRL-d are captured by the code for a vinagre pop-up window,
instead of sent downstream where they belong.

Is there some reason why we cannot provide TightVNC or similar competent
VNC viewer by default instead of Vinagre? It is true that Vinegre has
AVAHI support built-in, but who cares so long as basic VNC support does
not function on a consistent and stable basis?

[Bug 275188] [NEW] gtk.ImageMenuItem's get_children() function no longer returns the gtk.Image

2008-09-27 Thread nikosapi
Public bug reported:

The version of pygtk included with the latest ubuntu 8.10 alpha (6)
breaks the way gtk.ImageMenuItem's get_children function works. Instead
of returning gtk.Image and gtk.AccelLabel objects it simply returns the
gtk.AccelLabel.

Example (on ubuntu 8.04):
 import gtk
 print gtk.ImageMenuItem(stock_id=gtk.STOCK_OK).get_children()
[gtk.AccelLabel object at 0xb7cc5aa4 (GtkAccelLabel at 0x83bb850), gtk.Image
object at 0xb7cc5c0c (GtkImage at 0x835e0f8)]

Example (on ubuntu 8.10 alpha 6):
 import gtk
 print gtk.ImageMenuItem(stock_id=gtk.STOCK_OK).get_children()
[gtk.AccelLabel object at 0x9ae0a2c (GtkAccelLabel at 0x9d7e028)]

A simple workaround would be to use get_child for the label and
get_image for the image, but I suspect this may break some applications'
functionality if the status quo remains.

[Bug 274681] Re: g-p-m has become schizophrenic

2008-09-27 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
I gave a false alarm on a duplicate report, because I said that action
on critical battery is not performed after suspend. That was due on use
time for policy being set and the time being a bit wrong. Using
percentages or raising the thresholds a little bit makes the laptop
react to battery critical events, so the problem is only with the
battery indicator. William: you may want to revise priority. I also
reported upstream - launchpad is not reporting upstream links for
duplicates it seems, I will add it by hand.

- the function nm_device_other_update_ppp is changed to
nm_device_update_unmanaged and defined in the header file
- now it monitors all unmanaged devices instead of just ppp devices
- now it checks whether the unmanaged device have an IP address before
signaling as online
- added a new flag unmanaged_active (mimicking modem_active) that store whether
we are online or not
- (untested) handle cases where there are more than one unmanaged devices and
one of them is online. (This becomes an issue after I switched to netlink)

[Bug 248791] [NEW] Advanced Desktop Effects Settings (compiz) settings lost when change to metacity then back to compiz

2008-09-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: compizconfig-settings-manager

(hoping I've picked the right package name)

Ubuntu Hardy
Thinkpad T61p (NVidia drivers installed by EnvyNG)

When I set compiz settings in the Advanced Desktop Effects Manager, then
switch off Desktop Effects (for graphics problems), then switch back to
the Extra option in the Appearance dialog, most of the settings that I
set have been lost. The only one I notice that has stayed is horizontal
virtual size setting (ie 4 for the cube to work).

The others I set but were lost are: cube, cube rotate, expo, show
desktop, water effect, reflection, cube reflection, 3D windows.

2008-09-27 Thread Pablo Castellano
Hi all.

In my case I have arrived to this report searching in google the error
strings that had appeared to me in dmesg:

[360663.776727] [fglrx:fireglAsyncioIntEnableMsgHandler] *ERROR* IRQMGR

I got them trying to switch user and logging in again.
And everything continues working fine apparently.

[Bug 248791] Re: Advanced Desktop Effects Settings (compiz) settings lost when change to metacity then back to compiz

2008-09-27 Thread James Westby
Hi,

Thanks for investigating further. It seems that what is happening
is the selecting one of the pre-defined profiles, in this case Extra
overwrites your compiz preferences.

I thought I had seen bugs about this before, but I can't find them
right now. Anyway, I reassign to gnome-control-center which provides
the appearances capplet, and it seems like that may be thing doing
the overwriting.

Thanks,

James

[Bug 241139] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Cannot access samba share Unable to mount location

2008-09-27 Thread Alberto
I never had this issue in Hardy, even if I enabled Hardy proposed in
order to fix another bug. I agree it's not a samba issue since smbclient
works fine.
