[Bug 225361] Re: ~/.gvfs causes various errors

2008-11-04 Thread Sameer D. Sahasrabuddhe

Even if each user has his/her own .gvfs, it can still be mounted as
/tmp/gvfs-username! A lot of gnome utilities already do that, so it won't be a
big deal. And of course, there should be no security issue in using /tmp, since
even root can't access gvfs mounts! ;)

[Bug 281217] Re: evolution calendar does not work on a *x600 resolution

2008-11-04 Thread TheGurke
So I have upgraded to intrepid now.

The problem still persists, but in the meantime I have found a
workaround (which also works on hardy):

If you check View/Switcher Appearance/Hide Buttons the minimum size of
the window seems to shrink and it can be properly maximized on the
screen. However my opinion is that this should be done by default on an
*x600 resolution.

[Bug 249373] Re: gnome session does not restore the previous session

2008-11-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Ubuntu is not writting GNOME but only contributing upstream and
distributing it. The bug was known before intrepid but downgrading the
version was not trivial, it was not clear that GNOME was not going to
work on the issue before 2.24 and Ubuntu usually ships the current
GNOME. If you are not happy about the choice you should rather complain
directly to GNOME, if you want a stable Ubuntu version maybe you should
consider staying on a lts version?

[Bug 249373] Re: gnome session does not restore the previous session

2008-11-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
You can also note that the low priority focus for this bug upstream is
due to the fact that the feature has never been working really correctly
on many software and they don't consider that something stable and used
by the majority of users, that might be wrong but should be discussed on
bugzilla.gnome.org rather than here, intrepid ships now the current
version which works mostly correctly and the way to go is to get the bug
fixed now in the intrepid updates or jaunty

[Bug 285323] Re: Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid

2008-11-04 Thread Richard Hughes
This is a kernel problem that affects Dell laptops. It has been fixed
upstream by Matthew Garrett. The issue is that some keys on a Dell
laptop do not produce a key down, key up sequence when the button is
pressed, and instead just produce key down and NOT key up. This confuses
X greatly, as more and more keys are being pressed together. This is
fixed in 61579ba83934d397a4fa2bb7372de9ae112587d5 on 15th August in
Linus' tree.

Author: Matthew Garrett [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Date: Fri Aug 15 13:54:51 2008 -0400

Input: atkbd - expand Latitude's force release quirk to other Dells

Dell laptops fail to send key up events for several of their special
keys. There's an existing quirk in the kernel to handle this, but it's
limited to the Latitude range. This patch extends it to cover all
portable Dells.

[Bug 195657] Re: fast-user-switch applet crashed after kdm login to gnome account

2008-11-04 Thread Nicolas Gruel
I saw exactly the same behavior. The applet is crashing when kdm is used
instead of gdm. I don't have space on my hard drive to install the debug
stuff so I cannot provid the file you asked but I'm pretty sure that you
can reproduce it very easly (it's suffice to reconfigure gdm to kdm:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm), log on a gnome session and watch the applet
crashing.

[Bug 272971] Re: Dock windows dangle when the panel autohides

2008-11-04 Thread garferi
If this is an upstream choice, it's a very very BAD choice! This worked very
well in Ubuntu 8.04.1, and now in Ibex it isn't comfortable to use. If
developers wouldn't like to fix this, give a workaround or an option to restore
the old functionality.
If developers change everything familiar function what the users using
everyday, the things are going the wrong way with gnome...
Thanks!

[Bug 216581] Re: screen doesn't refresh when gnome-screensaver is active

2008-11-04 Thread net_man74501
I too have the same problem. I have attached a screen-shot of what is
happening. Basically, the whatever program is on top, gets pushed behind
the preview. When moving the preview window, it leaves a trail of images
of the preview. The screen just fails to refresh, even hitting F5 at the
desktop to refresh the desktop does not work. The only thing to clear
the extra images is to drag another program over that portion of the
screen. It makes it really hard to choose my power management options
when I can't even see them! I am running Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid. I had the
same problem in 8.04 by the way. My card is a Intel Graphics Media
Accelerator 950.

[Bug 292825] Re: Slider in rhythmbox causes crashes

2008-11-04 Thread Brett Alton
Yes, crossfading is what made it crash it looks like, even though it
wasn't changing songs but rather skipping to the middle.

However, now that I turned off crossfading and restarted, Rhythmbox
doesn't even allow me use of the slider (e.g. the slider will not skip
to where I place it, but rather only a minute change forward).

This happens on a fresh install as well.

I also noticed that they are only the .avi files that I downloaded from
youtube that are not working. I can play them with mplayer, but the sound
and the video are delayed. I can play them directly on the website and it is
working good. I tried with totem-xine, and I get the error message that
CODEC FLV1 is missing. Flash is installed on my computer. Where can I get
this CODEC? I didn't find in package manager.

Everything was working before I upgraded to Intrepid, this is why I think
that there is a little bug over here. Don't worry, I am happy with Ubuntu.

[Bug 222487] Re: Ubuntu offers no control over WLAN power-management

2008-11-04 Thread schmolch
Im not talking about turning the card on or off but about the
powersaving modes the wlan-drivers offer.

Ubuntu offers no control over this other than entering a cryptic command
on the console that is not even documented anywhere.

The iwl3945 driver for example can be set to 7 different modes with
different timeouts and according to powertop the difference between AC-
mode and battery-mode is about 1W.

I can not even put this command into rc.conf since the wlan-card is not
up at that point of the boot-process.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more

[Bug 271138] Re: mouse and keyboard unresponsive when gdm first runs

2008-11-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
Sounds like the original issue (and many of the issues by subsequent
commenters) are fixed by the gdm priority change, so closing out the
xorg task - if I'm wrong please feel free to reopen the task with an
explanation.

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed = Fix Released

[Bug 293675] Re: Totem crashes when seek slider moved on MP3

2008-11-04 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
