[Bug 156620] Re: Looses track of user activity

2009-03-07 Thread Lars Stokholm
Nope. I'm using a plain Lenovo ThinkPad T500, but I had this problem too
on my old ThinkCentre. As a matter of fact I'm baffled by the fact that
I seem to be the only one in the world (still) experiencing this. I
don't have odd settings, I haven't hacked Ubuntu or installed any weird
applications.

[Bug 339097] [NEW] ssh keys only work if manually added with 'ssh-add' not if seahorse prompts for them

which:..

($SSH_AGENT_PID is running though)

If I manually add my key with ssh-add prior to using ssh, I don't
get seahorse prompt and everything works ok. It is as if seahorse
fails to open the key or ssh-agent.

As completely unrelated thing, it would be grand to have bindings for seahorse
API for common
programming languages like ruby and python. Thanks.

[Bug 338989] Re: Evolution crashes on startup unless run with --disable-eplugin

2009-03-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 204802] Re: Enh: Scaling support

2009-03-07 Thread Rui Carmo
Regardless of whether its up/down scaling, it's silly to have to switch
off compiz to use it - that, too, needs to be fixed, since you can't
reasonably expect people to switch off compositing when the very
graphics primitives that make compositing possible would also be of use
in scaling pixmaps...

A most silly (but usable) workaround is to run a WIndows VNC viewer that
supports scaling under WINE. Which only adds to the shame.

[Bug 339067] [NEW] File Selection dialog is too wide as it widens according to width of filetypes.

2009-03-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

Hi,
I'm using Firefox 3.0.3 on Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit Intrepid Ibex
and... I came around this -
http://i41.tinypic.com/2q1auld.png

Should the width of 'select file' dialog box used for uploading files,
depend on the width of 'list of file-types' ? This surely makes it fill
up my screen whereas it would've been more comfortable if file-type
box would show a trimmed summary and on dropping it down, the whole list
of filtered types would appear, making the Select File dialog little
less wider and comfortable.

I'm very new to all this, so I'm not sure if I should report this under
gnome or firefox.

Thanks

In intrepid, I had a warning when battery was running out : something

On Jaunty, the only notification I had was Battery low, shutting down.

[Bug 306310] Re: Resume (from memory) goes back to sleep automatically

2009-03-07 Thread Martin Pitt
Steve, I'm just porting our patches to 2.25.91. Is that gnome-power-
manager patch still relevant with the recent ACPI? Why was the upstream
task marked invalid? Without the acpi-support goo, the change should be
relevant to upstream as well?

Anyway, new g-p-m now uses DeviceKit-power, so it wouldn't listen to hal
events at all any more. Thus I drop the patch for now, and we'll see how
it goes. Andy, if you notice that this issue returns in Karmic (or if
you enable the ubuntu-desktop PPA with the new g-p-m), please speak up
here.

Thanks! Martin

Hi all. I have been using Ubuntu 8.10 for some time now and did not
notice this bug initially using Ubuntu. I noticed it when using Linux

happening using U8.10. It seems that after some recent updates it has
become more prevalent. I can not pin it down further than that currently
but will play with both dists and see if can figure something out. Have
5 partitions on HD each will mount but only after spitting out the

[Bug 339170] [NEW] Choppy playback with gstreamer apps over pulseaudio links

2009-03-07 Thread Pekka L J Jalkanen
Public bug reported:

I have a Pulseaudio link between two Intrepid boxes.

If play raw audio over it with Aplay or Paplay, playback is flawless.
But if I use Gstreamer apps—I've tried Ekiga and Banshee—the playback
has a chop once in every three minutes or so.

This does not occur during local playback, but only when using remote
Pulseaudio servers.

It is highly annoying; I hope that I could redirect the sound to stdout
so that I could redirect it to paplay to work around this problem,
because paplay works!

During the chop network output drops (see attached image), so I assume
Pulse has no data to send, and this is a Gstreamer bug rather than
Pulse.

[Bug 267121] Re: gnome-screensaver-gl-helper crashed with SIGSEGV in exit()

2009-03-07 Thread Phillip Tarrant
I have the exact same issue (jaunty alpha 5) fully patched as of 6 Mar 2009.
I have an ATI Radeon HD2600 PCI-E X 16
This issue has been around since I updated to jaunty. No worries because I
expected as much from alpha :)

However, I just wanted to update saying the last update didn't resolve it.
I have tried both ATI drivers and Jaunty's drivers for my radeon card. I get
the same result each time the screen saver exits.
It is reproducible about 75% of the time. If it goes into screensaver for just
a few seconds...maybe a min or two it exits fine.
If it's in screen saver longer then 3 minutes (or so) it does the above error.

Thanks for everyones help and all that you do for Ubuntu!

[Bug 334377] Re: Lots of country names are missing, showing missing from libgweather in mobile broadband connection wizard.

2009-03-07 Thread Antti Kaijanmäki
OK, I finally got my jaunty installation working and was able to
investigate this. Fixing this needs a change in libmbca. It's not going
to big, but I'm not yet sure how to fix this properly and I don't have
time to work on this in at least couple of weeks..

The problem lays in
http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/libmbca/trunk/src/provider_thread.c?view=markup
where the assistant tries to find country names based on country codes
from libgweather database. The format changed with libgweather 2.23.6
and I hoped it would be stable from there on, but now it seems that the
format is back what it used to be as the old code works on jaunty.

After the name search is fixed there's a little translation related
change required. Apparently debian has patched libgweather package to
remove the translations from .xml file and to put them in gettext .mo's
instead.

For future releases libmbca could use resources from iso-codes package
and wouldn't need libgweather anymore, but that change is too big for
jaunty.

Yeah I experience the fingerprint being listed there always, but as
far as #261375 looks, I don't see user actually experiencing any

For my bug, I definitely experience issue, I simply can not login

[Bug 327683] Re: Evolution hangs on Generating message list with GroupWise account

This happens with me too, both on 32 and 64-bit machines. Even after
doing a force-shutdown and restarting it doesn't fix the
problem...sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, haven't quite figured
out how to get it consistently back to normal behavior

I fixed it on one machine by deleting the account in evolution and
clearing out everything with groupwise in the name in my ~/.evolution
folder...

I don't want to do this on my other machine because the groupwise server
only stores 3 months of emails and so all my email past that point is
stored locally

[Bug 339228] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon and gnome-display-properties slow down xserver when external monitor added

2009-03-07 Thread Joseph Method
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

Whenever I plugin an external flatscreen TV CPU use goes up, the mouse
jumps around and performance becomes jerky. The external monitor
flickers for a while and eventually gives up. Killing gnome-settings-
daemon immediately causes the external monitor to display properly.
Restarting gnome-settings-daemon or starting gnome-display-properties
separately both cause the external monitor to stop displaying. When I
tail the Xorg.0.log during these times there are spikes in messages
about polling the connected monitors for their display sizes.

Below I've included the text I wrote in comments to a similar bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxrandr/+bug/307306) that
was eventually traced to gnome-settings-daemon and gnome-power-manager.

On a Macbook 1,1
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS,
943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
Philips 42 LCD television

===
This g-s-d problem caused me to misinterpret a problem with dual-monitor
displays. On a Macbook 1,1 whenever I plugged in a DVI-to-HDMI connector to a
flatscreen television (using a TMDS-1 output on an intel card), on hotplug the
machine would start to slow down. On coldplug and an unaltered xorg.conf it
would attempt to load both displays but the flatscreen would start flickering
on and off and eventually stop attempting to display anything. xrandr would
show both active LVDS and TMDS-1 connections. Any attempt to use
gnome-display-settings would only show a blank application window that could
not be closed except by force quit. I had assumed that this was an issue
directly with xserver-xorg-intel until I saw this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxrandr/+bug/307306.

As of today, killing gnome-settings-daemon immediately caused the
flatscreen video to appear and slowness issues are gone. Trying to use
gnome-display-settings immediately kills the display and shows the blank
window again. Perhaps this points to xrandr and intel, or xrandr and
dual-monitor auto-detection?

Just to be clear, these are the same symptoms that Chousuke reported
here:

Running gnome-display-properties will cause the screen to go black until
it's closed, regardless of whether g-s-d is running. A clean X session
with g-s-d disabled at startup and briefly running gnome-display-
properties is the same size as the current log.

[Bug 339242] [NEW] totem dvb-t error

2009-03-07 Thread michaelrmgreen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

OS = Ubuntu 8.10 fully up-to-date
Totem = 2.24.3

Problem = If I select Movie → 'Watch TV on DBV adapter 0' I get the
error message 'Totem cannot play this type of media...' When I click on
'More information about media plugins' I am taken to a web page
(http://projects.gnome.org/totem/#codecs) which tells me I need gst-
plugins-bad and Fluendo's MPEG demuxer. On this page is a hyperlink
marked 'You can install them the same way as you would install totem'
This link is a circular link which takes you back to :
http://projects.gnome.org/totem/#download.

Doing a web search on 'install gst-plugins-bad' and 'how to install gst-
plugins-bad' didn't produce any useful information.

[Bug 339145] [NEW] gnome menus freeze after the AC adapter is plugged and brightness is changed with keyboard

2009-03-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi, I have a Dell laptop Studio 1735 with Ubuntu 8.04 with latest
updates.

uname -a
Linux anton-dell 2.6.24-23-generic #1 SMP Mon Jan 26 00:13:11 UTC 2009 i686
GNU/Linux

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.04.2
Release:8.04

apt-cache policy xorg
xorg:
  Installed: 1:7.3+10ubuntu10.2
  Candidate: 1:7.3+10ubuntu10.2
  Version table:

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:7.3+10ubuntu10 0
500 http://ru.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages

I've found a very strange behaviour of my system: GUI sometimes freezes.
Test case is:
1. Plug AC adapter. Screen brightness is increased. (BTW how to make brightness
is not changed?)
2. Change brightness with keyboard (e.g. increase or decrease)
3. Try to press on any Ubuntu menu (e.g. System, Applications). This menu is
only highlighted but is not opened (pulled?). I cannot open menu for system
shutdown either.
4. Restart X by pressing Ctrl+Alt+BkSpace.
5. System is working fine.
6. Try again (or simply change brightness). System will freezes again.

Sometimes I cannot reproduce this bug (after 2 or 3 times of doing this test)
but it is on my system.
Next message I'll attach some logs may be someone find something in them.

[Bug 339145] Re: gnome menus freeze after the AC adapter is plugged and brightness is changed with keyboard

2009-03-07 Thread zolle
There are some updates here. I found that this freezing is for gnome
panel only (or what's name of panel where clock, indication, keyboard
layout ... are). Firefox menu, for example, doesn't freeze. And when this
problem is appeared I cannot move any windows.

Sometimes to reproduce that bug I can just increase/decrease brightness,
and my panel will freeze.
