[Bug 338371] Re: screeensaver Jaunty don't stop
here's my experience with the bug in the Jaunty Alpha. This bug occurs when the computer is idle and the screensaver has been on or when returning from Suspend. The screensaver is active and running, but when moving the mouse to deactivate it, the mouse cursor appears frozen (Although I don't think it actually is). The screensaver also will not deactivate for mouse movement or keyboard presses. However, when the Compiz cube is active, I can use the keyboard (and mouse) to rotate the cube. Once I stop, the screensaver comes back to the front (The screensaver does not freeze). When the the Compiz cube is not active, there is no way to tell anything is happening or working at all besides the screensaver. I have found no way around it other than doing a hard reset. -- screeensaver Jaunty don't stop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338371 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 292161] Re: [caps lock] caps inverted with led if caplocks is on when changing mode
Hello again all. sorry for being quiet on this, as I've been unable to replicate the problem until today, however I think this is a more serious issue, or maybe a related keyboard layout problem in general. Yesterday I upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid on my works desktop (I am assuming that the OP is using Intrepid?) Investigation lead me to an issue with dual keyboards and the caps lock key. Firstly. if you change to CAPS on one keyboard, the CAPS lock doesn't turn off untill you have turned on CAPS lock on the second, and then turned it off on both. Also for inputing the sudo password there is an issue with function also. I have the English keboard set as default for my use after logon. Whenever I perform an action that requires the entry of my sudo password I am unable to enter it. This seems to be because the system is expecting me to use the French Keyboard, but I have no way of knowing if the keyboard has the CAPS lock on or off, as the light doesn't reflect the action of the keyboard. Hence I never have enough attempts to get the code correct, and one I start again I have the same problem as I don't know how the layout is set! Ok so now it gets worse I tried to do su from the terminal, the function of the caps lock key is completely topsy turvy. I need to log on as su from the french keyboard (or so it seems) but I need to change the caps lock on both the English and French keyboard at the same time (here is where it gets confusing), when I change it on the French the keyboard layout becomes as if it was the english keyboard (so the password isn't accepted) but when I change the caps on the english the layout returns to the french! I can't remove the french layout, as I need to log on as sudo, but can't logon as sudo unless I use the layout of the french keyboard with the english keyboard whilst the French / English caps lock key is both on and off on the alternate same keyboard... I hope you are keeping up here.. I'm not sure I want to continue as it seems as though there is some sort of loop in the system that I can't get out of! I can confirm that this isn't an issue on my laptop, where I have a second external keyboard connected, but they are both on the same layout. So I now have another problem. I am going to be unable to perform any updates, as I won't be able to enter my sudo password! I'm going to see if using a different kernel helps, currently I'm using 2.6.27.11 generic I also noticed that there are a load of options for the activity of the caps lock key in the settings for the keyboard layout, but again of course I can't change any of them as I can't log in as root! I think this bug needs to be upgraded in importance. But I don't know how anyone suffering the problem will be able to do the update ! ;) I may do a clean install without the french keyboard, not that I really have time for that sort of messing about! [Bug 292161] Re: [caps lock] caps inverted with led if caplocks is on when changing mode
Ok appologies... I've found that I am able to turn off the french keyboard, I didn't think that I would be able to! this has solved the problem! having it available in the list of layouts completely throws the system. Just remove the one that you don't need, that should solve things for everyone? sorry for the previous rant. Question however... if someone has a double headded setup (or a uses an ubuntu system as thin layer for multiple simultaneous users), and different users want to use different keyboard layouts will this cause them problems? Ok I'm back again I'm still using the same kernel by the way I thought I had solved the problem. However the system hasn't remembered the setting, I'll try a reboot in a second, and each window that opens seems to have an issue with deciding which layout to choose! Also the english layout is active on the french keyboard sometimes and the French on the English!! I guess that this was actually the real problem, and mixing of the layouts that are available to the system, obviously they are being activated / changed with the use of the CAPS lock key (even though this isn't the default setting - I haven't changed anything I just looked). [Bug 330437] Re: impossible to clear trash-bin when it contains read-only folders
I don't think I'll be able to install jaunty soon. I can only confirm that 8.04-LTS (with all latest updates) is affected too. Easier steps to reproduce (tested at 8.04): 1. $ mkdir -p foo/bar 2. $ touch foo/bar/baz 3. $ chmod -R u-w foo 4. $ chmod u+w foo 5. delete directory `foo' to trash * try to empty trash — `foo' persists, moreover there is no error message. * try to add `write' permission recursively for folder `foo' that is inside of trash — operation fails without any error message * try to add `write' permission to `foo/bar' that is inside of trash — operation fails with message the action is not supported by the driver * try to cut/paste `foo' folder from trash to Desktop — operation fails during copying file to /home/darkk/Desktop/foo.2/bar with details Error occured while deleting file: permission denied so you have two copies of `foo' tree — one in Trash and another one on Desktop (btw, why the file is copied? IMHO, cut and paste should not copy anything) * there is no way to restore `foo' to it's original place to change permissions there, at least I see no relevant commands in context menu.
