Status in “totem” source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: totem

Hi all,
I have installed UBUNTU 9.04 yesterday and tried out totem (mplayer).. It
worked OK when it was on the  LCD display(1280x800) of my laptop. After that I
switched to an external monitor with resolution (1680x1050). After that totem
stopped working  - tries to resize the window, but apparenly fails and then
sometimes I'm asked to relogin or when Automatic resize is turned off it
silently exits. I tried to set back the resolution to the previous value to see
if this would help somehow, but it does not. I also looked for similar problem
being reported earlier and did not find any.
Best Regards

[Bug 358017] Re: Answer doesn't allow you to remove replies

2009-04-09 Thread Tom
I think there is a concern that if everyone can change any posting
they've made in a thread then the answers that follow may not make or be
completely wrong or even damage someone's system if they are looking
through past questions to help solve their current problem. Even a
subtle change in a nuance in a question might radically the answers
received.

I think that once people realise that it's a public forum and that their
postings cannot be altered it discourages flaming attacks and rudeness
hence encouraging a more family-friendly environment.

On the other hand there are clearly likely to be times when it would be
good to have a responsible moderator able to edit out certain things.

I've not seen any of the possible instances occur in all the time i have
spent in here and it's been my experience that moderated forums tend to
be quite unpleasant. I think we should expect the level of maturity and
caution that we currently have and avoid falling into the traps that
this bug could lead us.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions
Regards from
Tom :)

I've pushed a gnome-keyring building with -O1 on armel as that was said

@Michael: please document your debugging progress here, backtraces, what
you tried etc.

I personally suspect http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=575247 to
be on the right track and that cells are not properly inserted in the
ring, but the patch seems to cause other breakages.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please try to obtain a valgrind log following the
instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind and attach the file to
the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem.

[Bug 204413] Re: nautilus memory leak

2009-04-09 Thread Deon Spengler
In my testing this bug has nothing to do with the thumb-nailing of media
files. To reproduce the bug create a folder on your desktop called bug,
now inside the bug folder create a new folder called empty. Open System
Monitor so that you can watch the memory usage of nautilus. Now with
nautlus go into the empty folder once inside the empty folder go one
dirctory up, then go back into the empty folder, do this process about
100 times and you will see that the memory usage of nautilus slowly
starts growing.

With regards to thumb-nailing, if one has lots of media files in a
folder and one goes into that folder, the problem that is seen with
memory increase just by going into a empty folder is increased and the
problem shows it's self more easily, but the problem does exist even if
one does not use any media files.

I have tested this on intrepid (amd64) and jaunty (32-bit beta) with all
current updates installed, problem still exists.
Hardware ranges from desktop system (intel quad core), laptop (intel dual core)
and netbook (intel atom)

File systems range from ext2 (netbook) ext3 (desktop) ext4 (laptop)

I think the bug is a huge problem, because if one never switches off
your system, just by browsing around one's computer on a long enough
time line nautilus will consume a huge amout of ram.

[Bug 333608] Re: deskbar-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in PyType_IsSubtype()

2009-04-09 Thread Dimitry Andric
Looks like comment #32 here:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=577649#c32 and its followups
seem to fix the problem. When I remove the inheritance of gobject in
GnomeURLopener, the crash goes away.

There is a more complete patch at
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=132271action=view , which
is apparently already commited in the upstream version. It applies
fine, though the file locations are a bit different in Ubuntu, and also
solves the crash, at least for me.

Excuse me Sebastien but I think this is a bug.
as you can see in top of this screenshot:

just passing to another workspace and without opening any new

if this is what suppose to happen (have the no specific icon (the blue

[Bug 358017] Re: Answer doesn't allow you to remove replies

2009-04-09 Thread Martin Pool
It seems like this is not even specific to answers, but also bugs and
other places: you want a way for people to remove all data they posted,
which is not Launchpad's approach at present.

In practice, you can contact an admin through the link at the bottom of
any page and they will remove it. So the question is just whether you
should be able to do it immediately without admin intervention.

[Bug 358347] [NEW] [Jaunty] Totem doesn't refresh overlay output if Compiz is activated

2009-04-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: totem

I have enabled xv overlay with the -intel driver because the image is tearing
without it. If Compiz is activated and the full screen view is used everytime
the mouse is moved the screen appears black until the progress bar is removed
again. If I double click in the full screen window to get a video window the
output is also black. It appears again if the whole Totem window is moved but
after maximizing and scaling down the result is the same.
This doesn't happen with textured video but it is atm no option because of
tearing and it doesn't seem to happen wit VLC so I guess it is a Totem problem
and not a Compiz/driver one.

I am using current Jaunty.

[Bug 358347] Re: [Jaunty] Totem doesn't refresh overlay output if Compiz is activated

2009-04-09 Thread unggnu
Well, best thing for fixing is to mark it against Ubuntu :) .
I don't know, Totem works fine in previous Ubuntu versions with Overlay output.
It flickers but it works if the progress bars appeared.

It seems to be a gstreamer problem since the gstreamer-properties
testing output shows the same behavior. If you move a window over it the
place doesn't get refreshed.

VLC works and I guess many other video players so it isn't a general
Ubuntu problem if there is one at all.

** Package changed: ubuntu = gst-plugins-base0.10 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 339357] Re: gnome-panel apps wont allow volume controls

2009-04-09 Thread fuelthefire99
today after updating, the volume control showed up and it is fully
usable on my computer. However after clicking it, it looks weird because
it zooms in like a new window (compiz zoom effect) rather then just
poping up like how the network status icon does when clicked. I suppose
that is a whole different problem though :) thank you to the devs who
got this working.

[Bug 358370] [NEW] Evolution loads mail very slowely if its imap cache is bigger that ~100/150 MB

2009-04-09 Thread Maxim Levitsky
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This just simple.
Evolution stores imap cache in sqllite database, and it uses single database
for whole account.
When I start it, it reads all database in mrmory, and this sometimes takes ages.

I usually just remove this database.

It would be much better, if it removed data from this database on time
basis (LRU is best), or maybe use a database per folder

Re: [Bug 356309] Re: Pointer does not change

2009-04-09 Thread Nipas
There is no error or something reported in the ~/.xsession-errors
file after trying to change the cursor.
OS: ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty beta with all updates installed
I also noticed that all pointers (except the default that works fine) work
under the firefox and openoffice window (I tried several apps) . When moving
the pointer above the application menu (firefox) or when i minimize the
window, the pointer changes to default.
Hope this helps

2009/4/8 Pedro Villavicencio pe...@ubuntu.com

thanks for the report Nipas, which release of Ubuntu are you using?
Could you try on Jaunty? Is there anything on your ~/.xsession-errors
file after tried to change the pointer? As Leann said that also works
fine for me here with Jaunty so not confirming, thanks.

[Bug 358136] [NEW] 9.04 power usage skyrockets on battery

2009-04-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Sorry for the lack of information. I'm not a developer, but wanted to
try 9.04. After upgrading to 9.04 beta I noticed a huge decrease in
battery performance: 3+ hrs to 1:30 hrs. The gnome-power-manager
Power-History indicates that 40W are being used when it is unpluged and
15W when on AC. This seems contrary to what it should be.

[Bug 358347] [NEW] [Jaunty] Totem doesn't refresh overlay output if Compiz is activated

2009-04-09 Thread unggnu
