[Bug 365889] [NEW] clock applet reports unknown timezone for Montreal, Quebec, Canada

2009-04-24 Thread Steve McInerney
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Edit Locations on the Clock Applet.
In location name, start typing to get Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Timezone remains on Unknown and if you don't notice that, when you
click OK/hit enter, the add is silently failed.

So two errors:
1. missing TZ
2. Silent fail

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04

ISTR this was also broken in Intrepid.

[Bug 356515] Re: Jaunty: indicator applet cannot be removed from panel when inactive (it simply cannot be seen)

2009-04-24 Thread Scruffynerf
I'm experiencing it as well. When the applet is inactive, there is no
icon to indicate position, or that it's even on. When moving the window
list panel application around, it will run up against it and compresses
the window list icons - as they should and do when running into any
other panel applet. The only problem is that there is nothing viewable
where the applet is located.

Ubuntu Jaunty btw.

[Bug 36189] Re: Applets do not scale well with changing resolution

2009-04-24 Thread David Fokkema
Just my 2 cents:

Some people here have discussed the options: relative positioning,
keeping track of positions with different resolutions, flexible spaces,
etc.

However, as some others have pointed out already, gnome already _has_ a
great scheme, which is actually working very well: the panel_right_stick
boolean. It's even possible to give the positions as an index instead of
pixels (so, 0, 1, 2, 3) which allows for relative positioning.

The problem is that upon resize, the panel disregards your settings and
rewrites (some of) them with the panel_right_stick set to False and
calculates the exact pixel offset. Upon switching to a greater
resolution your applets keep this exact offset and everything is messed
up. One workaround mentions to set one particular settings file to read-
only, thus preventing gnome to touch (i.e. mess up) your applet
positioning.

My question (and our problem, I believe) is this: why on earth won't
gnome just leave my applet settings alone? I paid particular attention
to the fact that my applets don't run into each other when switching to
a lower resolution so I see no reason _at all_ to change the settings.

[Bug 36189] Re: Applets do not scale well with changing resolution

2009-04-24 Thread Sandro Mani
From what I can judge the problem is not how the panel behaves when it
is resized, but how it behaves when adding applets to the panel, i.e.
practically always choosing to store the position as absolute from left,
instead of from right. In fact, once I corrected all the settings
manually in gconf, all applets retain their correct positions no matter
how often I change resolution, i.e. I would suggest gnome does not
really change any settings in the panel.

What would have to be done is, when adding an applet, make the panel
detect if the new applet touches an existing stack of applets that is
aligned to the left / right, and store the positioning of the new applet
consequently: either stick right enabled or disabled, and not using
full-width pixel positions, but rather storing à la index.

[Bug 365917] [NEW] evolution crashes when more than one mail account is activated

2009-04-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Evolution will crash at mail retrieval when more than one mail account
is activated (i.e. the checkbox is checked on the main accounts screen).
Running evolution from terminal gives the following (the Estonian phrase
means Key file does not have group 'Passwords-Mail' ):

** (evolution:7251): DEBUG: mailto URL command: evolution %s
** (evolution:7251): DEBUG: mailto URL program: evolution
** (evolution:7251): DEBUG: EI: SHELL STARTUP
e-data-server-ui-Message: Unable to find password(s) in keyring (Keyring
reports: Vastavusi pole)
e-data-server-ui-Message: Võtmefail ei sisalda gruppi 'Passwords-Mail'
Segmentation fault

Tested on 64-bit Ubuntu 9.04 with Evolution 2.26.1. The bug was also
present in 32bit Intrepid shortly after its release, but went away with
upgrades a couple of days after release.

A temporary solution is to keep multiple accounts but keep only one
active (and after crash, do not let it retrieve mail, but set the
accounts back to 'single active account mode' before attempting
retrieval) - but the need for constant change is quite a nuisance when
working at different places.

[Bug 36189] Re: Applets do not scale well with changing resolution

2009-04-24 Thread Aidan Fitzpatrick
I think the problem _is_ how the panel behaves when it is resized. Have
a look at the first comments.

There's a workaround with gconf which makes the panel's handling much
more graceful, but this is analogous to Windows users having to edit the
registry to be able to change resolutions nicely. It doesn't make sense.

I thought David's comment #30 was pretty spot-on, and I see this as:

1. Exposing the gconf positioning controls through the user-interface,
or finding a way to infer what they should be

2. Not breaking them when resizing (or adding new controls, as per
Sandro's point)

switching to higher resolution. Without the log off, log in, I tried to restart
the panel between, before and after switching resolutions, but nothing broke.
It did, however, after log off, log in. I don't know why. Maybe the problem is
not even in the gnome-panel code directly.

It would be really, really nice to get a list of which code touches the
gconf settings, and when.

@Aidan: Thanks! I agree with both your points.

[Bug 201786] Re: ssh Agent admitted failure to sign using the key on big endian machines

2009-04-24 Thread Christian Albrecht
I have had the problem on my upgraded from Intrepid Jaunty installation.

It seems to be that gnome-keyring has a problem while reading my private
key in dos format (CR/LF). After converting it to unix format it works
like a charm.

I've used dos2unix (tofrodos package) to do the job.

[Bug 365345] Re: gnome-terminal could not be started

2009-04-24 Thread putin_ai
Hello!
I've got the same error message, it appears after upgrade Ubuntu from 8.10 till
9.04.

Additionally, Synaptic and other pkg managers not working (they show
some errors after they were launched).

In recovery mode i can upgrade packages, but I see errors like Can't
open openpty(). Not mounted? (it's not quite correct message).

Additionally, when launched netroot mode in recovery, wifi interfaces
try to get IP over DHCP, but in NetworkManager setting up static IP
addresses.

Best regards, PA.

I have the same problem on Ubuntu 9.04 (after upgrade from 8.10).
This might be related to the bug that lets nautilus start on the wrong screen?
Pedro, please be clear in what info you want, i can reproduce this bug.
No use in trying to close bugs all the time, while the idea is to get them
fixed and enjoy a properly working Ubuntu i think?

[Bug 365964] [NEW] Run application text input expansion works incorrectly

2009-04-24 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Steps to reproduce:

1. sudo aptitude install sun-java6-jdk
2. press Alt+F2 to start Run application dialog of gnome-panel
3. Type j and wait for a few seconds (so that the list of icons have been
updated
4. Type c the input now reads jc[on] where the part between brackets is
selected (This is correct, possible choices are jconsole and jcontrol)
5. Type o

Expected results:

The input now reads jco[n] (the n is selected an will be overwritten
if I type anything)

Actual results:

The input now reads jcon (the n is not selected). This prevents me
from successfully launching the jconsole by typing jcons in the dialog
because after the jco part the input has been changed to jcon and
when I continue the rest of the program name (nsole) the end result is
jconnsole which obviously does not work.

Other information:

There seems to be some kind of race condition somewhere because
sometimes the n is correctly selected after jco part and sometimes
not. It seems that waiting after the j helps to reproduce the problem.

I haven't examined if the problem is caused by the fact that jconsole
can be found from the main menu (and so has an icon) and jcontrol
cannot be found from the main menu (and has no icon but application says
in the bottom Will run command: 'jcontrol' if I toggle the Show list
of known applications).

[Bug 365989] [NEW] Mute button stopped working in Jaunty

2009-04-24 Thread ComputerJy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

I have a Dell Precision M65 Laptop. I installed Ubuntu 9.04 when it was
a beta and kept it up-to-date ever since. I also set my keyboard mapping
to my Dell M65 Keyboard.

The problem is: Whenever I click the Mute button, I get the notification
that sound has been muted/unmuted but the icon stays still and it
doesn't really change

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-volume-control

Package: gnome-media 2.26.0-0ubuntu3

[Bug 365964] Re: Run application text input expansion works incorrectly

2009-04-24 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Did you try multiple times? As you can see, I'm also running jaunty. I'd
say that n is not selected about 4 times in 10. Because this seems to
be some kind of race condition, I'll report some extra information:

Possible factors: CPU speed, kernel, Xorg

$ uname -a
Linux semyol-329-b 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC
2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
$ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep model name | uniq
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
$ dpkg-query --show xserver-xorg-video-intel
xserver-xorg-video-intel2:2.6.3-0ubuntu9

I agree that importance is low right now, but if the problem is more
visible with higher CPU speed, then it will be much more visible in the
future.

The issue seems to be also slightly easier to reproduce if you do not
close the dialog but after trying once, you clear the input with
backspace and type the letters again. In this case, it's easier to
reproduce if all letters (jco) are rapidly typed.

[Bug 366037] [NEW] Up button lacks navigation along sub-domains

2009-04-24 Thread James Carroll
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

(This is more of a Blueprint than a bug; however, Blueprints seem to
be disabled for the ephiphany-browser package.)

One of the things I love about Epiphany is it's simplicity and speed: it
has all the essential features of a web browser, and runs much quicker
than other browsers on my system. One feature I consider essential is
the up navigation. On Firefox, the extension uppity, as well as the
Google Toolbar, implement this feature very well. I am pleased to see
Epiphany includes this feature natively, and I mostly satisfied with the
current behavior. In addition to the current behavior, I propose that
the up navigation move up from sub-domains. For example, if I am at
the following url:

http://debtorrent.alioth.debian.org/

When I press up, I expect to move to the following location:

http://alioth.debian.org/

Another move up should place me at:

http://debian.org/

And here it stops. Currently, I don't see a way to move up
subdomains. This is the natural and expected interpretation of up, as
many websites use sub-domains in addition to folders for their
hierarchy.

Distribution: 8.04.2 LTS
Package name: epiphany-browser
Package version: 2.22.2-0ubuntu0.8.04.5 (from `apt-cache policy
epiphany-browser`)

P.S. If this feature appears in 8.10 or 9.04, please let me know.
Hopefully we can get it in 8.10.3 LTS.

Cheers,
James Carroll

[Bug 366046] [NEW] libpango segfaults trying to install icon theme

2009-04-24 Thread Felipe Sentelhas
Public bug reported:

Using the gnome-appearance control, I tried to install the hidroxygen
large icon package-themes (~70MB), the process began but quickly the
whole Appearance window closed.

Going for the syslog, I found this:
Apr 24 09:06:09 apolo kernel: [ 1708.723603] gnome-appearanc[4528]: segfault at
0 ip b77a53ef sp bfa52e60 error 4 in libpango-1.0.so.0.2400.1[b777a000+4]

I tried to repeat the error with other large icon-theme-package
OxygenRefit2-white-version (~35MB), the same problem, but a slightly
different entry on syslog:
Apr 24 08:59:29 apolo kernel: [ 1757.438371] gnome-appearanc[4077]: segfault at
34 ip b782dcd0 sp bfaeba10 error 4 in libpango-1.0.so.0.2400.1[b7812000+4]

The system is a Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty fresh install.
Since it's a fresh install, I'm using the libpango01-0:1.24.1-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 365989] Re: Mute button stopped working in Jaunty

Thanks for the report, does the music stay muted or that doesn't work
either? It's just the notification that doesn't show the right icon?

Thanks for your report, could you run brasero from the command line as:
brasero -g --brasero-media-debug brasero-debug.txt perform the
operation to reproduce the bug and attach the resulting file to the
report?. Thanks in advance
