setting

[Bug 326158] Re: Root terminal doesn't start

2009-04-25 Thread Pibo
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 328575 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/328575

I do agree with Bob (in fact, I wouldn't have written here if I didn't :) ). We
don't have the option visible in our menu by default, but we do own a fakeroot
terminal, so why shouldn't we be able to use it (even if it just means having a
different colour profile)?
Using 'sudo -i' is a functional workaround, but it's not a solution. And, the
bug may have collateral issues that haven't been identified yet, so we
shouldn't disregard it only for being a dumb problem: the fact the queue of
subscribers has doubled since yesterday should mean something :D
Anyway, I'm marking this as a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gconf2/+bug/328575 (I'm not doing it
the other way since it seems it's them who are collecting dups) Sorry I can't
help by more means.
Greets,
Pibo

[Bug 366699] [NEW] LG cell phone mass storage connection hangs usb (it worked great in intrepid)

2009-04-25 Thread scott flynn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

When you connect a LG 9100 phone, the phone asks if you want to connect
the mass storage, and when you say yes, the usb connection seems to
hang. It won't mount. lsusb seems to confirm this with no report while
the phone is in mass storage mode - it hangs the terminal window. lsusb
reports the correct phone connected if it is not in mass storage mode
(or you cancel the phones mass storage mode selection). This worked
flawlessly in Intrepid. Also, while using Intrepid, when the usb
connection was made the phone modem would try to install. It doesn't
under Jaunty (This made me suspicious of a problem almost right away).
lsusb reports the phone as a LG Electronics, Inc. vx4400/vx6000
Cellphone (which I believe is correct driver wise...).

[Bug 366723] [NEW] the properties button does nothing on categories

2009-04-25 Thread Ankur Banerjee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alacarte

Here's how to reproduce the bug:

1. Launch alacarte menu editor by going to System Preferences Main Menu.
2. Click on _any_ item listed under the 'Menus' tree. You'll see that 'Move Up'
/ 'Move Down' / 'New Separator' buttons are disabled.
3. However, the 'Properties' button is enabled. On clicking this button,
nothing happens.

So, either a properties dialog box should pop-up OR the 'Properties'
button should be disabled when the selected item is something from the
'Menus' tree.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10. I don't know whether this bug exists in 9.04 (not
downloaded yet), so maybe someone who's already installed 9.04 can check
whether this bug exists in 9.04 too.

[Bug 359759] Re: All the drop-down list items shows untranslated in gnome-terminal, albeit they're translated

2009-04-25 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
If I opened the Nautilus task was because it SEEMED to be the same issue
with the same symptoms. There's a bugreport opened about nautilus-
sendto, but not about nautilus. My previous screenshot in this bugreport
illustrates the issue in Nautilus, not nautilus-sendto. At least I can't
see any other bugreport opened about Nautilus (not nautilus-sendto) for
the same issue. That's the reason to opened the Nautilus task. If
Nautilus is affected by this bug, it should be obvious to have a task
opened for it. And I repeat: I'm talking about Nautilus, not nautilus-
sendto.

[Bug 366737] [NEW] Complete System Lockup following Screensaver then Monitor Power Down

2009-04-25 Thread david.h
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

This is my first time reporting a bug on Ubuntu so apologies if I miss
anything.

Today my machine locked up while I was away from desk. When I returned
the machine was unresponsive to keyboard (internal and external), mouse
and or trackpad. The network also appeared to be offline as I couldn't
ping it from another machine on my network. The machine didn't appear to
be busy - no rapidly flashing lights! It was also unresponsive to a the
power button (not in suspend or hibernate). I had to hold the power
button down for 3-5 seconds to shut the machine down.

The machine had idled to screensaver (Skyrocket) before I left my desk.

I do not know if power management had put the display to sleep as I was
not at the desk, but I was away long enough for this to have occurred
(~1 hour).

Yesterday, following it's release, I did a fresh install of Jaunty
Jackalope 64bit on my machine. (I had previously been running Intrepid
Ibex.)

I also installed the latest driver from Nvidia (x86_64 v180.53) released
on the 22 Apr 09. (I had previously been using a beta Nvidia
Driverx86_64 v185.13 released on the 13 Mar 09.)

At the time, the following applications were running;
1. QuickSynergy (minimized but connected as a server to one other pc)
2. Firefox (1 instance)
3. Gedit (2 files open)
4. Terminal (idle)

Apart from VMware Server2, the machine runs very little on the host. I
had installed a couple of new applications on trial as this was my first
build of Jaunty.

My machine specs are as follows;

Dell Precision M6400 (Laptop)
  Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300
  16Gb RAM / 2 * 500Gb Sata 7200 (no RAID)
  17 RGB LED 1920x1200 driven by Nvidia FX3700M 1Gb
Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 64Bit (9.04) 2.6.28-11
  Nvidia Driver x86_64 v180.53

I had not had this issue previously under Intrepid.

Thank you, I hope this information may be useful somehow.

Regards

David

[Bug 366737] Re: Complete System Lockup following Screensaver then Monitor Power Down

2009-04-25 Thread david.h
Just tried to repeat the problem but was unsuccessful.

I set the screensaver timeout to 1 min and the display power down to 2
minutes.

With nothing open the issue did not repeat after 5 minutes.
With QuickSynergy open, the issue did npt repeat after 5 minutes.
With gedit open, the issue did npt repeat after 5 minutes.

Possibly I need to let the screen saver run for longer. I will try that
later.

David

[Bug 365270] Re: Move is Copy + Thrash, should be Move that removes all traces of the first.

2009-04-25 Thread Knut
yes - Sebastian - it is consistent.
You can make another folder than Inbox, touch and email and try to drop it
into the new folder.
What happens is that the email ends up in the new folder - but a copy of it is
in the Deleted Items /Trash folder.
This means that a duplicate has been created.

Then make a Message rule that moves messages from e.g. a named sender to
the new folder - and the result will be the same on receipt: one copy in
the new folder and a duplicate in Trash.

Related to priority - i have a long experience in database development - and
can tell you that the bug is fundamental, and is consequential to a number of
other bugs reported.
It renders all Message rules useless - because it results in messages being
deleted.
It is critical, because nobody can use an email client that causes messages to
be lost.

Make a version that processes one email account at a time - avoiding
multiple streams allocate new message indexes. Then when you have
verified that the message has been moved properly, delete the content by
releasing the message index of the original. If the two does not compare
after move - then delete the new index (best also notify that the move
failed for some reason) and release the message index to the new - and
hold on to the old index.

What happens now is that the message index of some other stream uses the
same message index, causing the emails to get lost - or deleted.

It is not a desktop bug - it is a bug in the core system.

You have to consider concurrency and you cannot make duplicates to
delete them later.

[Bug 366262] Re: Desktop is completely unresponsive after Jaunty upgrade

2009-04-25 Thread Fabio
I realize that I haven't explained myself very well: when I wrote GNOME
Desktop I didn't mean the whole GNOME application but only the portion
of screen on which the wallpaper is drawn (BTW, the wallpaper is the
only thing that is displayed correctly on it).

Re: [Bug 238733] Re: Right-click inconveniences

2009-04-25 Thread André Pirard

the behaviour is an upstream decision not a bug, you should discuss it
 upstream and not there

So, Ubuntu describes such a remark as invalid, and says that I should
not discuss it there.
I would like to know where you read that someone took the decision
that a right click on the desktop and other places must produce a random
result.
Who is that and where is it I'm sent off to say I and several users
don't have the same opinion as Ubuntu?

[Bug 366630] Re: gnome-sound-properties no default mixer track selected

2009-04-25 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
If so, why alsa master is not selected? this is clearly a bug. It's a
coincidence that it works as expected

** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
   Status: Invalid = New

[Bug 366262] Re: Desktop is completely unresponsive after Jaunty upgrade

2009-04-25 Thread Fabio
Sorry for choosing the wrong package and thank you for your quick
response. By unrensponsive I mean that it does not respond to commands
at all, in particular:

1) No icons are displayed on it, even though the Desktop folder is not empty
and they all displayed correctly in Intrepid
2) Right clicking on it doesn't trigger a pop up menu
3) Left clicking and dragging to choose a desktop region does not work

The top and bottom menus work regularly though.
