[Bug 441121] [NEW] seahorse sucks CPU, and RAM, causes swap storm, makes system completely unresponsive

2009-10-03 Thread Stephen Warren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

I've been attempting to get bzr viz to show GPG signatures on
revisions. So, I ran bzr viz against a small local branch (or a branch
from http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~bzr/bzr-stats/trunk/), selected
various revisions, and also selected the Signature tab. Most of the
time, bzr-gtk will simply say Signature key not available (that seems
like another bug...) when switching to view a revision with a signature.
However, sometimes, bzr-gtk will hang, and after a few seconds spew the
following backtrace:

[swar...@esk test1]$ bzr viz

reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout
expired, or the network connection was broken.

Right after this happens, seahorse-agent (or seahorse-daemon, whichever
it is) will start sucking a lot of CPU, and also growing its RAM usage
very fast. If it isn't killed quickly, it'll consume all physical RAM
and grow into swap. The CPU usage and resulting swap storm make the
system almost entirely unresponsive; even switching VTs and text-mode
login doesn't work. Sometimes, switching VTs and CTRL-ALT-DEL will
gracefully restart. (As an aside, epic fail for the kernel; OOM killer
ended up killing some completely irrelevant and tiny Apache process,
then not bothering to ever kill anything else, like the runaway seahorse
process)

Final note: I have the WAR from
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=135042action=edit applied,
so as to avoid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bzr-gtk/+bug/377476. I don't
expect this makes a difference, but you never know.

[Bug 357825] Re: foggify.py crashed with RuntimeError in foggify()

2009-10-03 Thread Dave Jeffery
The Foggify filter passes its turbulence setting to the the Plasma

It can be fixed by changing line 69 in file /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-

(PF_SLIDER, turbulence, _(_Turbulence), 1.0, (0, 10, 0.1)),

[Bug 441142] [NEW] ls -la fails to print directory names

2009-10-03 Thread Angelo Borsotti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

ls -la does not show directory names.
However, it shows them if run using script, e.g. script -c ls-la, or if
its output is redirected to a file, lile, e.g. ls -la tmp, or if run
from superuser, i.e. sudo ls -la.
The problem occurs only when run normally from a non-superuser
account with output on a terminal.
It seems that it outputs characters that are not displayed: if you
select the output with the mouse, you can see that in reverse video.

[Bug 441153] [NEW] Show icons in menu not enabled by default option does not work correctly

2009-10-03 Thread chewit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I upgraded by computer from 9.04 to 9.10 beta on Friday 2nd October
2009. I noticed a bug with the menus. Some icons were missing on the
menu. I discovered that in Appearance Preferences that under the
Interface tab, the option called 'Show icons in menu' was unticked. I
ticked the box, all the icons appeared on the menu.

This is the first bug. This option should be enabled by default.

The second bug, is that this option does not work. When it was unticked,
most of the menu had icons but some were missing. The entire
Applications menu had icons, The Places menu had majority of icons,
however 'Connect to Server', 'Search for files' and 'recent documents'
did not have icons. Under the System menu, most of the items have
icons, but some didn't.

If the box is unticked, then all the menus should have no icons, this is
not the case, since most still had icons, only a few items didn't have
icons.

[Bug 438577] Re: no location data listed when setting clock/weather location.

2009-10-03 Thread Louis Simard
I withdraw my previous comment. The bug didn't disappear. It just so
happened that I triggered the bug before the updates, then reopened
clock preferences afterwards. Re-updating from a fresh re-install,
without editing clock preferences until after the update, still causes
this bug.

This bug can only happen once during an installation, but can appear at
will by restarting the LiveCD.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Choose a location to add, in the form City, Province, Country (or City,
State, Country). I use Montreal, Quebec, Canada for this example. Also trigger
using the bug reporter's location: New Orleans, Lousiana, United States.
2. Right-click the Clock applet.
3. Select Preferences.
4. Switch to the Locations tab.
5. Click Add.
6. Type the first few letters: 'Mont' for Montreal, 'New' for New Orleans.
7. BUG APPEARS HERE.
8. Close Preferences and repeat steps 2 to 6.
9. BUG DOES NOT APPEAR HERE.

7. and 9. should both have this expected behavior: many locations appear
for the prefix you type, such as Montreal, Montmagny, Monte Carlo, etc.

However, the bug is that during step 7, only one unrelated location
appears, and typing further characters from the location you *actually*
want makes everything disappear, leaving a 5-pixel-wide popup without
contents that spans down to the bottom of your screen.

If I can manage to capture a video of this, I will attach it to this
bug.

(P.S. for the steps I wrote in this comment, I ran the Update Manager
between steps 7 and 8.)

[Bug 202504] Re: Keyboard layout always QWERTY

2009-10-03 Thread Catapult
just upgraded from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 Beta.

I restarted the computer. I get the log-in screen. I try typing my
password but it gets rejected. Then I try typing in the regular Qwerty
layout and it recognizes my typing.I am able to log-on. After logging
in, I can type in my Dvorak layout.

What I was expecting:
In 9.04, I could type in my regular Dvorak layout during log in time.

[Bug 441262] [NEW] Clock drop down menu leaves a shadow on desktop

2009-10-03 Thread Anders Sjöström
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I have a fresh and default installation of 9.10-beta.

If I press the Clock applet, the menu drops down (date/location). I
press again and the menu goes away. But it leaves an edge on my
background. Other Gnome-panel applets doesn't seem to leave traces. If
menu drops down over another window no trace of the edge is left, only
if it is drawn directly on the desktop background.

I will attach a screenshot of the effect.

[Bug 441281] [NEW] With autologin, GDM login prompt is shown for a split second

2009-10-03 Thread Krzysztof Kosiński
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I have autologin enabled. Some time ago xsplash worked correctly and
displayed the throbber from X initialization up until the logon was
complete and the desktop was usable. Right now it shows the GDM login

through, which then quickly disappears and the login continues.

In Jaunty, the login prompt was never displayed when autologin was
enabled.

[Bug 441300] [NEW] Copies of Audio CDs made by Brasero are not functional

2009-10-03 Thread Louis Simard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

After copying an Audio CD via Brasero, the new CD copy does not work. It
tries to read for well over a minute, then gives up. No icon appears in
GNOME, no mount point appears at all, etc. However, the original CD does
function.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Copy an Audio CD via Brasero: insert audio CD in drive, tell Brasero to use
the same drive for the blank CD... and follow the instructions.
2. Use the 'eject' command at a terminal, because the eject button at the front
of the CD-ROM drive does not work (for this, see bug 395814).
3. Reload the same CD in the drive.

dmesg output for when the CD is reloaded (step 3) is attached. I didn't
save the Brasero log for step 1.

* * I have no more blank CDs to test this on, nor do I have any more CD-
RWs. Therefore, I have no choice but to pass the baton for confirming
and investigating this bug to someone else. * *

[Bug 400168] [NEW] include conversions like volume, mass, length, area, currency

2009-10-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi there,
it's not so much a problem, but rather a few suggestions as to increase the
possibilities of this calculator.
It's fine as it is now but maybe in a next release you could add a few useful
features like conversions.
E.g. Currency, length, area, volume and mass.
If i input 1 mile and want to know how many kilometers or yards or meters it
is. Or if i input 1 gallon, how many quarts, liters or cubic feet this is and
so on.
Hope it helps.
Best regards

[Bug 440495] Re: Gimp on Karmic doesn't find python-fu plug-ins placed in user's home folder

2009-10-03 Thread Dave Jeffery
This is not a bug, this is me being an idiot. I'm sorry about this one -
it's simply a case of allowing the scripts permission to run as a
program. This information is lost when backing up files, so when I
restored the files after doing a clean install of Karmic the plug-ins
would not work. Sorry to have wasted your time on this one.

can you test?

[Bug 441397] [NEW] crash after trying to eject a mounted ntfs partition

2009-10-03 Thread Ori Avtalion
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Using 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 on Karmic.

I have an ntfs partition mounted using ntfs-3g.
When using totem to play a media file on that partition, the Movie menu has
an Eject option.
Clicking it triggers a crash.

The core dump doesn't have much info, but it seems to crash in
/usr/lib/gio/modules/libgioremote-volume-monitor.so

I think the Eject option should be disabled for drives it makes no
sense to eject.

[Bug 437638] Re: Totem stop playing when I try to call in skype

2009-10-03 Thread Tobias Wolf
« For the media players we fake XF86AudioPause key events to make them
pause, which probably everyone agress is a terribly kludgy hack. »

  http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/skype.html#comments

This key will send the play/pause toggle over dbus. So, when the player is
already paused it will start to play ...
And if two players are running with one paused and the other playing they will
both toggle to the other state.

I think corking should definitely be disabled until they sort it out.
The idea is good, but the world isn’t ready yet.

Re: [Bug 72761] Re: Evolution will not delete certain folders, claiming they are not empty, even though they appear to be empty

2009-10-03 Thread Dr Malcolm Bradley
bwallum wrote:
I now have no issue using Evolution in Karmic and Jaunty.

There appears to be a misunderstanding about these bugs. My problem was
quite simply not being able to empty the deleted items folder.

I have stopped using Evolution and moved instead to Thunderbird because
of the lack of confidence in Evolution. I am really uncomfortable having
mail items in the deleted items folder that I cannot permanently remove.
I have checked again a few seconds ago and the message is the same as
when originally reported:

'Error while Expunging folder.'

There are 102 items in the deleted items folder.
