[Bug 441121] [NEW] seahorse sucks CPU, and RAM, causes swap storm, makes system completely unresponsive
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: seahorse I've been attempting to get bzr viz to show GPG signatures on revisions. So, I ran bzr viz against a small local branch (or a branch from http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~bzr/bzr-stats/trunk/), selected various revisions, and also selected the Signature tab. Most of the time, bzr-gtk will simply say Signature key not available (that seems like another bug...) when switching to view a revision with a signature. However, sometimes, bzr-gtk will hang, and after a few seconds spew the following backtrace: [swar...@esk test1]$ bzr viz No handlers could be found for logger bzr Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/bzrlib/plugins/gtk/revisionview.py, line 486, in _switch_page_cb self.signature_table.set_revision(self._revision) File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/bzrlib/plugins/gtk/revisionview.py, line 210, in set_revision self.show_signature(crypttext) File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/bzrlib/plugins/gtk/revisionview.py, line 229, in show_signature (cleartext, key) = seahorse.verify(crypttext) File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/bzrlib/plugins/gtk/seahorse.py, line 83, in verify keyset[key] = Key(key) File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/bzrlib/plugins/gtk/seahorse.py, line 99, in __init__ fields = openpgp.GetKeyFields(key, ['fingerprint', 'trust', 'flags', 'display-name', 'location']) File /var/lib/python-support/python2.6/dbus/proxies.py, line 140, in __call__ **keywords) File /var/lib/python-support/python2.6/dbus/connection.py, line 622, in call_blocking message, timeout) dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. Right after this happens, seahorse-agent (or seahorse-daemon, whichever it is) will start sucking a lot of CPU, and also growing its RAM usage very fast. If it isn't killed quickly, it'll consume all physical RAM and grow into swap. The CPU usage and resulting swap storm make the system almost entirely unresponsive; even switching VTs and text-mode login doesn't work. Sometimes, switching VTs and CTRL-ALT-DEL will gracefully restart. (As an aside, epic fail for the kernel; OOM killer ended up killing some completely irrelevant and tiny Apache process, then not bothering to ever kill anything else, like the runaway seahorse process) Final note: I have the WAR from https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=135042action=edit applied, so as to avoid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bzr-gtk/+bug/377476. I don't expect this makes a difference, but you never know. [Bug 441153] [NEW] Show icons in menu not enabled by default option does not work correctly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center I upgraded by computer from 9.04 to 9.10 beta on Friday 2nd October 2009. I noticed a bug with the menus. Some icons were missing on the menu. I discovered that in Appearance Preferences that under the Interface tab, the option called 'Show icons in menu' was unticked. I ticked the box, all the icons appeared on the menu. This is the first bug. This option should be enabled by default. The second bug, is that this option does not work. When it was unticked, most of the menu had icons but some were missing. The entire Applications menu had icons, The Places menu had majority of icons, however 'Connect to Server', 'Search for files' and 'recent documents' did not have icons. Under the System menu, most of the items have icons, but some didn't. If the box is unticked, then all the menus should have no icons, this is not the case, since most still had icons, only a few items didn't have icons. [Bug 438577] Re: no location data listed when setting clock/weather location.
I withdraw my previous comment. The bug didn't disappear. It just so happened that I triggered the bug before the updates, then reopened clock preferences afterwards. Re-updating from a fresh re-install, without editing clock preferences until after the update, still causes this bug. This bug can only happen once during an installation, but can appear at will by restarting the LiveCD. Steps to reproduce: 1. Choose a location to add, in the form City, Province, Country (or City, State, Country). I use Montreal, Quebec, Canada for this example. Also trigger using the bug reporter's location: New Orleans, Lousiana, United States. 2. Right-click the Clock applet. 3. Select Preferences. 4. Switch to the Locations tab. 5. Click Add. 6. Type the first few letters: 'Mont' for Montreal, 'New' for New Orleans. 7. BUG APPEARS HERE. 8. Close Preferences and repeat steps 2 to 6. 9. BUG DOES NOT APPEAR HERE. 7. and 9. should both have this expected behavior: many locations appear for the prefix you type, such as Montreal, Montmagny, Monte Carlo, etc. However, the bug is that during step 7, only one unrelated location appears, and typing further characters from the location you *actually* want makes everything disappear, leaving a 5-pixel-wide popup without contents that spans down to the bottom of your screen. If I can manage to capture a video of this, I will attach it to this bug. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: nautilus In Karmic Beta 1: Nautilus shows useless unfunctional disk entry for LVM2 logical volume of root that is inside a crypted device (dm-crypt). [Bug 441300] [NEW] Copies of Audio CDs made by Brasero are not functional
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero After copying an Audio CD via Brasero, the new CD copy does not work. It tries to read for well over a minute, then gives up. No icon appears in GNOME, no mount point appears at all, etc. However, the original CD does function. Steps to reproduce: 1. Copy an Audio CD via Brasero: insert audio CD in drive, tell Brasero to use the same drive for the blank CD... and follow the instructions. 2. Use the 'eject' command at a terminal, because the eject button at the front of the CD-ROM drive does not work (for this, see bug 395814). 3. Reload the same CD in the drive. dmesg output for when the CD is reloaded (step 3) is attached. I didn't save the Brasero log for step 1. * * I have no more blank CDs to test this on, nor do I have any more CD- RWs.
