[Bug 428884] Re: gnome-screensaver-command --poke no longer inhibits screensaver

2009-12-16 Thread Rémi Denis-Courmont
If it's just a matter of fixing a DBus in VLC, then Ubuntu VLC could
just invoke dbus-send via system(). Obviously, that wouldn't work for
other packages.

And by the way, xdg-screensaver will need to be fixed too, because VLC
1.1 will probably use that.

But again, I would not to blame GNOME too much here. Tracking which
applications is inhibiting the screen saver makes sense. And if Ubuntu
GNOME keeps the old API for backward compatibility, there will never be
any incentive for dependent application to fix their code... So of
course, the most up-to-date distributions like Ubuntu and Fedora are
bound to be hit. If you want to suffer from bleeding edge stuff, you
should use Ubuntu LTS or Debian stable really. But of course you will
have old stuff with fewer features; it's a trade-off.

Re: [Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP

2009-12-16 Thread Vidar
One main features removed from gdm, is the possibility to log in from the
gdm login screen. This was an important feature, that should not have been
removed.

Also, GDMSetup is reduced to only configuring automatic login. All other
settings are removed, including the option to enable remote log in from
GDMSetup. This feature, togehter with te possibbilty to configure GDM's
look, themes, should not have been removed. Even with the purpose of
cretaing a simpler and cleaner GUI.

2009/12/10 ghook gary.h...@bluestoneconstruct.com

I was able to use Xming to establish a remote XDMCP session to a Karmic
box. I just added the following lines to the \etc\gdm\custom.conf file:

 [daemon]
 RemoteGreeter=/usr/lib/gdm/gdmlogin

 [xdmcp]
 Enable=true

[Bug 497232] [NEW] Does not recognise DVDRW after being blanked

2009-12-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Once I blank a DVDRW using Brasero, the DVD drive is no longer
recognised. Blank discs are just not recognised or usable by any CD/DVD

at the wrong capacity. I know the DVD drive works properly in Windows.

Using: Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit.

[Bug 497344] [NEW] Intermittent problem where Paste (alt-v) applies to the wrong line

2009-12-16 Thread fmeetze
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

This is a frustrating problem because it is intermittent. I do not know
how to recreate it.

1. I select some text in another tabbed document and copy it with ctrl-c.
2. I click over to a another tab to the document where I want to paste the text.
3. I use the mouse wheel to scroll down or up on the document.
4. I click the left mouse button until the cursor is blinking on the line I
want to paste to.
5. I hit ctrl-v to paste.

Most of the time this works. However, intermittently - no text appears
on the line with the blinking cursor. Instead, the text is pasted on the
previously highlighted line.

I can even have the option 'highlight the current line' active. The
cursor will be blinking, the line will be highlighted, and this little
bug will still intermittently paste on the previously selected line.

[Bug 497344] Re: Intermittent problem where Paste (alt-v) applies to the wrong line

2009-12-16 Thread fmeetze
This is an old bug by the way. It's been around for quite a while - at
least since 8.10. Before, it was so intermittent, I thought it was my
mistake. That was until I started using the 'highlight the current
line' option. I've caught this little bug red handed. This thing has
cost me quite a number of hours of work debugging code.

2009-12-16 Thread etirk
This bug is very much reproducible.
It remains in version 9.10 latest update (1 week ago)
Have also tried upgrading to newer versions of the nxserver/client/node. Still
no luck.
I will try this with all the latest versions of both ubuntu and nxserver
tonight.

[Bug 25947] Re: [users-admin] should warn the user of what he's doing when unselecting the administration group

2009-12-16 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
I've no personal problem with that, but if we don't respect what we
write on the Wiki, we may as well change it instead of using
inconsistent statuses. Don't worry about the wrong upstream status for
that, I always go over all bugs registered in the GNOME System Tools
Launchpad project (i.e. for upstream) after I've made a release and it's
been packaged in Ubuntu. So I'll close it when it's uploaded anyway.

[Bug 497353] [NEW] Calculator crashes with scientific format

2009-12-16 Thread enric
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

I set the calculator to scientific view. Then, I set the display to
scientific format.

When I enter 1e-2 (1 Exp - 2) and then I press enter, the result is

[Bug 374320] Re: Gnome System Log Complains About btmp log permissions

2009-12-16 Thread ArTaX
This bug affects also me. I googled and I found this page:
https://issues.rpath.com/browse/RPL-1825
the problem seems to be correlated to ssh. SSH (only if there was a connection
error?) change the permission of the file /var/log/btmp to 660. I often use ssh
and sometimes it gives me a connection error.
Can you confirm that this problem is related to ssh?

[Bug 497366] [NEW] Sametime Accounts in Empathy not logged properly

2009-12-16 Thread Dilkington
Public bug reported:

Create a sametime account, log on and send some messages to other
contacts.

Log files (chat transcripts) are created using the contact identifier which can
be something like CN=John Smith, O=OrgName.
Chats sent to John Smith are logged under
~/.local/share/Empathy/logs/acct/CN=John Smith/O=OrgName

The Empathy UI for previous transcripts only seems to look in the
directory associated with the user e.g. CN=John Smith, so only looks for
log files in ~/.local/share/Empathy/logs/acct/CN=John Smith, and the
previous conversations tab is always empty.

Copying the log files from ~/.local/share/Empathy/logs/acct/CN=John
Smith/O=OrgName to ~/.local/share/Empathy/logs/acct/CN=John Smith
means they magically then appear in the UI.

[Bug 497353] Re: Calculator crashes with scientific format

2009-12-16 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 434262] Re: cannot accept meeting invite to Google calendar

2009-12-16 Thread calder
Seems Evolution team refuses to fix the bug saying that it is desired
behaviour:

This is really caused by the way of Evolution talking to Google calendar, but
not Evolution's fault. They are preventing adding a
meeting through CalDAV when you are not the organizer (here 'you' means an
email associated with Google account on their site).

If this is not their fault, I wonder how come it works with google-
calendar-provider in Thunderbird?

2009-12-16 Thread Ernest
Many thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately its still deleting incoming
mail , so I have had to install Thunderbird to get my mail , which works O.K.
The update I referred to , which I only glimpsed briefly , said something like
Evolution / Chrome display or something similar , and was only installed
about a week or so ago.

[Bug 497347] Re: system monitor crashes while changing graph color...........

2009-12-16 Thread Philip Muskovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in gnome-applets.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

2009-12-16 Thread Chris Coulson
I'm not too sure why this got assigned to gnome-applets.

What system monitor are you referring too? Is this gnome-system-monitor?
The information you've provided suggests that you're running Kubuntu, so
it's probably not

[Bug 497250] Re: large distribution lists mess up html formatted e-mails

2009-12-16 Thread marionspd
1) Create a new contact list with 25 unique e-mail addresses
2) When you have created the contact list make sure you have unchecked Hide
addresses when sending mail to this list
3)Create a new e-mail and add the new contact list to the distribution
4)Put a subject line in
5)Under the Format menu make sure the HTML radio button is selected
6) Add some text to the e-mail. Add some formatting to some of the lines in
the e-mail. Bold something, maybe underline something else
7) copy a table with some formatting out of OpenOffice Spreadsheet and paste it
into the bottom of the e-mail
8) send the e-mail, be sure to copy yourself so you can see what has happened
to the e-mail
9) I viewed the e-mail in Hotmail, Gmail and Evolution and all 3 show the
e-mail as having code with no formatting and no pasted table from OpenOffice

In step 2 if you leave Hide addresses when sending mail to this list
checked the e-mail will send properly.

The same problem happens if you attach a pdf file in step 7 instead of
copy and pasting a formatted table out of OpenOffice spreadsheet but I
haven't done that in a while.

Thank for your time and help. If you need further information please let me
know.
Dave
