[Bug 239621] Re: Screensaver disables visual effects

2009-12-21 Thread wfaulk
I'd been running without any problems since Dec10 with the v190 drivers
at the nVidia repo at http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu.
Today I came into work to find that the v190 drivers were available from
an Ubuntu repository. I had them running for about two hours before I
encountered the same problem again.

I would have figured that Ubuntu was just repackaging the drivers from
nVidia, but clearly something different is happening.

[Bug 487784] Re: Evolution Randomly Forgets POP3 Passwords

2009-12-21 Thread Big Boss
All the POP3 Accounts are from hotmail (office live). They are based on my own
domains and TLDs. My gmail accounts are set up with IMAP and have no problem
with them. Evolution randomly forgets passwords for only those POP3 accounts.
This bug is not one of the previously mentioned bugs.
Evolution forgets passwords randomly sometimes one sometimes two sometimes 3
accounts at the same time. I still could not figure out why. I have to re
enter the passwords and sometimes it accepts them and sometimes does not. So I
have to cancel it in order to use Evolution.

[Bug 379860] Re: Tray opens closes when finalizing CD copy

2009-12-21 Thread Bob D
I'm getting exactly the same behaviour; the tray opens about 3 min after
finalizing starts, then completes with success message about 2 min later,
but the disk is completely unusable.
Same thing happens when burning a dvd, except can slow dvd burn speed down to
x8 and so far has worked ok.
I'm using Karmic and Ext4, did not see this problem with same hardware using
Jaunty and Ext3.
Can dual boot using Vista with no problems in burning a cd or dvd.
Thanks,
Bob D

Re: [Bug 498669] Re: Freecell becomes very slow after some time

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

 1. Is this reproducible?
Yes, it has happened 5 or 6 times over the past couple of weeks.
 2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Be as
 detailed as possible.
Just play Freecell for some time, without exiting and with little else
going on. It takes some time, like 45 minutes. I believe I read mail
with evolution and may have used Seamonkey.

After playing for a while, an outline of a moved cars(s) follows the
cursor. The move completes successfully and after 10 to 15 seconds, the
screen update completes. This continues until Freecell is exited. It
takes several seconds, like 15 or 20 before the Freecell display exits.

Other activity on the system seems normal. It is like this one
application becomes disconnected for several seconds and then resumes.
I have not noticed this with other applications.

This may be very difficult to trace. Anything I can do to help?

Unfortunately, as I was trying out the patch, I wasn't able to get back

Re: [Bug 483698] Re: AisleRiot spider game slows down then it aborts causing user to re log-in.

2009-12-21 Thread Robert A. Kocis
Ray,

Most of the time, my machines do the same as your reported. Other
times, I can tell the crash is coming because the card I'm moving starts
to slow down, and even stopping the mouse does not prevent the crash.
I've got Karmic Koala on several different machines and it does the same
thing on all of them. So far, it's been little more than an annoyance,
but I've started saving my work before taking a break.

Have you found any work around??

Bob

[Bug 499114] Re: Add sound control applet again

2009-12-21 Thread Marian Sigler
OK, point a) can be fixed in the new one, but b) cannot, it's the basic
design of that new sound control.

(I wondered anyway why it was moved into the notification area, as
recently the pidgin icon was moved out of the notification area saying
that it is bad UI to have that in the notification area as it is not a
notification – but neither is the volume control)

But anyway – where would I have to report bugs on the new control?

[Bug 499295] [NEW] Brasero Project cannot be opend but doesn't find files anymore

2009-12-21 Thread Guildenstern
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Hi,

- reproduceable
Brasero 2.28.2
Ubuntu 9.10
brasero: /usr/bin/brasero

this is maybe duplicate to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/301934 301934

I stored a complex project (data DVD). When I tried to burn I was
affected by a different bug. ( I haven't found that one yet at launchpad
but it seemed to be a known bug in several forums)

So I restarted my machine and opened my recent project.
First I was wondering why nothing happened. Then I recognized that the browser
window just wasn't refreshed. My files were shown after changing my output

[Bug 499299] [NEW] Password protected zip file creation gives E_INVALIDARG p7zip error

2009-12-21 Thread Giovanni (aka Vanni) Totaro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

file-roller 2.28.1-0ubuntu1
p7zip 9.04~dfsg.1-1
p7zip-full 9.04~dfsg.1-1

Steps to reproduce the problem:
- create a folder;
- create an empty file into that folder;
- compress the folder as .7z with password AND files list encryption;
- compress the same folder as .zip with password (in grey you can see the
checkbox of files list encryption still selected).

Error:
7-Zip 9.04 beta Copyright (c) 1999-2009 Igor Pavlov 2009-05-30
p7zip Version 9.04 (locale=it_IT.UTF-8,Utf16=on,HugeFiles=on,1 CPU)
Scanning
Creating archive zip
System error:
E_INVALIDARG

My hints for you:
- p7zip parameter to encrypt files list is not valid for zip files;
- compression parameters need to be reset after every file format change.

Workaround:
- compress as .7z with password and WITHOUT files list encryption, then
compress as .zip with password.

[Bug 461418] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV after connecting USB hard drive

2009-12-21 Thread astro_dave
Doughy and perhaps JuanDA will probably benefit from this:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1322002#6

To quote from 'teh_lukes' linked post:
the folder ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata became corrupted. deleting it solved
the problem. don't know which file exactly.

After upgrading to Karmic Koala, I had noticed that my desktop icons had
disappeared. That fix worked for myself (and 2 people on ubuntuforums).

[Bug 491489] Re: Duplicate Entry for Samba Mounts in Places

2009-12-21 Thread BassKozz
Something interesting happened today,
I booted my Desktop machine while my nas box (Unicorn-NAS) was off...
I opened up nautilus and Unicorn-NAS was listed as an option, when I clicked on
it I got the same error message as before:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/basskozz/Ubuntu/Screenshot-UntitledWindow.png
So I booted up my nas box (Unicorn-NAS) and issued sudo mount -a from
terminal on my desktop once the nas box was up, and now in Nautilus there is
still only 1 listing for Unicorn-NAS in Nautilus, and it WORKS!!!
*odd* ?

[Bug 499288] Re: Nautilus console messages

2009-12-21 Thread Dave Walker
If you launch nautilus from the command line then it will produce
various warnings and errors. This is normal. If you launch nautilus
as a normal users then you may still see some warnings and errors but
there should be significantly fewer. Below is an example.

I am marking your bug as invalid because there does not appear to be a
bug in this report. If you have further questions then I am happy to
convert your bug to a question so it can be posted in the forums.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

[Bug 499288] Re: Nautilus console messages

2009-12-21 Thread Chris Coulson
GLib critical messages generally are bugs, and are usually a good sign
that something is going to go (or already has gone) horribly wrong.
Nevertheless, the critical messages there are understood and already
fixed in Lucid (and don't really cause any issue anyway), but please
don't close bugs like that in future, without investigating where the
message comes from and why it happens.

Thanks

[Bug 499337] [NEW] gdm doesn't re-login after logout when autologin and timedlogin are enabled Karmic 9.10

2009-12-21 Thread cleary
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.10
Release:9.10

$ apt-cache policy gdm

If I configure autologin in gdm, it works for the initial login in a gdm
session. Upon choosing logout from the Session menu, it does not auto login
again.
If the gdm service is restarted, autologin will work again as expected for the
initial session, but logout fails again.

The expected behaviour is that upon logging out, the gdm will honour the
autologin and timedlogin options configured in /etc/gdm/custom.conf

# cat /etc/gdm/custom.conf

[Bug 491521] Re: Decorations and RGBA

2009-12-21 Thread Javier Jardón
Hello,

I've tried the c-s-d GTK+ branch and I've found some problems with
glade3:

I've tried to add a GtkWindow to the workspace but then you can't add
any widget to it. Also, the titlebar of the GtkWindow is transparent.

[Bug 497175] Re: This program do not read every pdf files. I can send an exemple. Give me an adress.

2009-12-21 Thread Dennis Sheil
Problem is in either libpoppler-glib4 0.12.0-0ubuntu2.1 or libpoppler5
0.12.0-0ubuntu2.1 dependency, not evince. Evince works for sample pdf
when linked against pre-0.11.2 poppler libraries. ePDFView acts in the
same manner, working in earlier libraries, breaking on popper
post-0.11.1 libraries, further pointing to poppler

** Package changed: evince (Ubuntu) = poppler (Ubuntu)

[Bug 114341] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory

2009-12-21 Thread Alecz20
Hello,

I had some problems with the math not adding up in Disk Usage Analyzer:

Total Filesystem Capacity: 78.8 GB (used: 67.2 GB available: 11.6 GB)

But when I scan home in user mode, I get home usage to be: 27 GB

When I scan filesystem in user mode, I get filesystem usage to be: 36 GB

And when I scan filesystem in root mode, I get filesystem uage to be:
17.2 GB (with home/user to be 7.8 GB instead of 27 GB)

However, If I go in nautilus in root mode, / has a size of 56.4 GB
which is closer to the real value, but where are those extra GB? Disk
Usage Analyzer seems unable to find out no matter what mode I am running
it in.

2009-12-21 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue. If so please set the bug's status to Invalid. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 114341] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory

2009-12-21 Thread Alecz20
I think I found my problem: There were some files that were supposed to
be on the network. They were mounted in my home directory using
pyNeighbourhood. I was using a backup program that was supposed to
backup files to that location. I think it tried to backup when the
backup computer was not mounted, so it copied the files in my home
directory.

Still I find it strange that Disk usage analyzed did not scan that
directory in either mode

Note that during scan I unmounted all network drives.

[Bug 498970] [NEW] users-admin: shortname field does not update when name field is cleared.

2009-12-21 Thread lavinog
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools
users-admin in Lucid Lynx

Steps to recreate:
Open the create user dialog by clicking Add.
Enter a name like 'Test User' in the name field.
The short name field will update as it is entered.
Then press backspace to erase each character in the name field.
Once the name field is blank, the short name field will show 't' instead of
being blank.

Expected behavior:
Clearing name field should cause short name field to be cleared.

This is a very minor issue that shouldn't cause any usability issues,

@Przemysław Kulczycki: It's not because your usb hard drive is working

slowing down).

And with more than 200 comments, we can see that everyone has the same
symptoms but different causes. This bug report is not usefull anymore
due to its life time and the quantity of reports.

It seems a low level issue, lower than cp and move commands. Maybe a
Kernel or Kernel compilation issue?

[Bug 498974] [NEW] Backlight behaves irradically when changed from keyboard.

2009-12-21 Thread oliver
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I've set up gnome-power-manager to Dim when Idle and reduce when on
battery to manage my display.

Sometimes, while i'm in dark conditions(with or without AC) or want to maximize
battery life, I use the keyboard shortcuts (fn-home + fn-end on a T42) to dim
the display to it's minimum. However, mostly while reading stuff and thus not
interacting and letting the 'dim timer' kick in, in stead of trying to dim the
display, it turns quite bright for a second and then dims it again, but to a
higher setting then what it was at. Not only does this blind me, it is also
highly annoying.
This also happens during boot, when I have the setting dimmed and just before
login the power-manager backend kicks in to do it's dim-undim magic.

The first thing gnome-power-manager should do (or it's backend) is try
to determine what the current backlight setting is. I know this is
possible on a IBM T42 as this issue wasn't here 2 release ago.

[Bug 431147] Re: Cannot Unlock System Administration Login Screen

2009-12-21 Thread Neal Landry
Interesting note:

As a test, I created another non-admin account on the machine with this
problem. I rebooted and logged in as that user. As that user, both
gdmsetup and admin-users work correctly. When I click the Unlock
button I am prompted to authenticate. This problem seems to be only
related to my other admin account. This appears to confirm that it's
an account-specific problem... but I have no idea what to check on that
account to make it work correctly.

[Bug 450184] Re: Empathy causes memory leak on Openfire Server

2009-12-21 Thread Jordan
From one of the openfire developers:

I think I've uncovered the cause of the problem. It appears to be Openfire's
implementation of XEP-0163 Personal Eventing Protocol.

As a workaround, you can disable PEP by adding this Openfire System Property
(you can add/modify properties through the Openfire Admin console):

The property xmpp.pep.enabled should be set to: false ( later adding that you
may have to reboot the server for this to take effect )

[Bug 371167] Re: Chinese file names in Zip Archives compressed on Windows cannot be extracted correctly

2009-12-21 Thread eumetaxas
I have a similar problem with google docs. When i download several docs in zip
format the non-English chars ado not appear at all and the file names are
..ods or .odt.
Is this a general issue of the zip format?
Thank you.

[Bug 498987] [NEW] vlan

2009-12-21 Thread xmy_2002
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

hi
we find that from ubuntu 8.04 on, ubuntu don't support vlan(802.1), for
example, i have a router and 3 PCs(PC-A,PC-B and PC-C ), PC-A has ip address
192.168.1.1,PC-B and PC-C has the same ip address 192.168.1.2, router is set
having 3 vlan group, group1 has 2 members, port14 and both tagged, group2 has
2 members, port2(tagged) and port4(untagged), group3 has
2members,port3(tagged)and port4(untagged), set port1 pvid1, port2 pvid2,port3
pvid3, port4 pvid1,then connect PC-A to port4,PC-B to port2 and PC-C to port3,
if the OS on PC-A support vlan ,when PC-A ping PC-B and PC-C (with vlan
interface), PC-A can get the returns from PC-B and PC-C. if PC-A runs ubuntu
7.10, it works, but from 8.04 on, it dosen't work anymore.
can you fix it on 10.04?
