2010-01-17 Thread om26er
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers

[Bug 495223] Re: Dragging a desktop icon into gnome terminal does not work

2010-01-17 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

- We do not expect average users to use the terminal , hence not a papercut.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the
papercuts project.

[Bug 54024] Re: WIN key SUPER_L should be mapped to Applications menu

Interestingly , with gnome 3 , the Win key does now infact open the

Now is it still forbidden in gnome 2... ;)

We might not expect a change upstream with gnome 3 in the horizon.

But , since Lucid is LTS , [considering that gnome 3 will be using the win key
too] , Ubuntu 10.04 will be the odd one out for a very long time.
Should we change it in Ubuntu ?

[Bug 508677] [NEW] Empathy should logout from its accounts when ubuntu is going to shutdown

2010-01-17 Thread tankdriver
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

I have a jabber and a IRC account in Empathy,
When I close Empathy, it logs out of every account.

But when I forget to close Empathy and click on reboot / or shutdown
Empathy doesn't logout.

This problem results in error messages like: IRC nickname already in
use or simply lost Jabber text messages.

The next point is standby/suspend:
Empathy should set the account status to away or something before the machine
is going to sleep.

Otherwise there could be misunderstandings with your buddies (eg. when
they to communicate and their IM-Client don't know that your machine is
already in standby)

[Bug 508552] Re: Unable to change options on passwordless login

2010-01-17 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
I've updated a little the description since the feature is only
officially available in Lucid, so no need to disturb people with Karmic
issues.

I guess one way of fixing this would be, as you say, to show the options
before an user is chosen. Not sure that fits well in the code's design.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gdm

There is a problem with passwordless logins and the default
- configuration of karmic: you can't change the language (and whatever
+ configuration of Lucid: you can't change the language (and whatever
you'd like to configure in GDM), because all options are hidden until
- you choose a user.
+ you choose a user, and obviously once you've clicked on it it's too
+ late.

Is it possible to display the buttons also before selecting a user?

- Passwordless login isn't working correctly too, but there is a fix already:
+ (See Bug 393854 about the new password-less login feature in Lucid.)

[Bug 508702] [NEW] upper dependencies on libc6 ( 2.11)

2010-01-17 Thread Matthias Klose
Public bug reported:

glibc2.0, libnih and upstart all have hard coded upper dependencies on
libc6 ( 2.11). Just seeing this when trying to test-install an
eglibc-2.11.1 upload. Note that this one doesn't differ in the upstream
sources besides another release tag. So the current approach hard-coding
the upper limit already did fail to detect the case to conflict with
anything newer than 2.10.x, which apparently should have been detected.

Adding for now versioned conflicts against these three packages
conflicting with the new libc6 in libc6 2.11.1-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 496221] Re: Power management fails to hibernate when battery critical low on Zepto 3215

2010-01-17 Thread zsolt
Exactly the same problem here. I've tried the last 3 generation of Ubuntu on my
EeePC 1000H, but none of them has been able to run the action assigned to a
critically low battery state successfully. I only remember some 2 or 3 times
when it really happened. And my laptop has shut down unexpectedly for such
power-cuts maybe 100 times already. That's the biggest trouble with Ubuntu on
EeePCs. The problem is that:
IT DOESN'T GUESS THE REMAINING BATTERY LIFE CORRECTLY. It still shows some 5
minutes remaining, when the battery suddenly goes over, however it would run
the action at 2 minutes remaining, I think. Interestingly, the KDE POWER
MANAGER IN KUBUNTU WORKS PERFECTLY with my hardware.

It's the most dangerous bug for the hardware you can have. Really
annoying!

[Bug 501518] Re: gnome-screensaver doesn't follow setting to increase blank screen interval

2010-01-17 Thread Chris Coulson
Is gnome-screensaver even running (what is the output of ps aux | grep
gnome-screensaver)? If it is not running, then you might be hitting the
timeout of the built-in Xorg screensaver, which gnome-screensaver
normally disables. If it is, then please kill it, and run:

gnome-screensaver --debug --no-daemon 21 | tee gnome-screensaver.log

Let the screen blank as usual after 2 minutes, and then attach the
resulting log file to this bug report

[Bug 508733] [NEW] volume control app operates over ~25% of range

2010-01-17 Thread Dave Gilbert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

Lucid, gnome-media 2.28.1-1ubuntu2

I'm running the exaile music player (version from bzr) and finding that the
gnome volume control slider on the panel is doing
the whole range of behaviour over about the bottom 25% of it's slide - i.e.
there is no audible difference between 100% and about 25% and then it tails off
as expected.

The sound card is Intel onboard (3400 series chipset) with a VIA VT1708S
codec which I'm running in stereo mode.

In Sound preferences, the Applications slider for exaile.py as being
pretty much 100% - the Output slider follows the volume control applet -
and seems to suffer the same problem, so I guess it's not the applet.

2010-01-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

(This bug seems to be about gnome-mouse-properties package but i can't
select it in Launchpad)

I've just bought a DELL Mini 9 (Inspiron 910) with Ubuntu 8.04 modified
by/for DELL and a friend of me had to tell me where i can set the
touchpad preferences : in Preferences menu, under Mouse entry.

Since my DELL mini 9 doesn't have a mouse and that i wanted to set my
touchpad, it was not obvious to me !

If Mouse entry is about setting pointing devices, then rename that entry
into Pointing devices with tabs for Mouse/Touchpad and so on

It's confusing and undiscoverable at present time

I don't know if it's something to Ubuntu or related to GNOME.

+ bug in GtkBuilder. I tracked down the problem:

- When loading a XML UI file using gtk.Builder, the 'name' property of
- widgets isn't set. Because of this, get_name() just returns a string
- containing the widget type (like GtkWindow). On the other hand, the
- 'name' property of 'gtk.Action' objects is properly set.

- A test case is attached. Compare the output on a Karmic and a Lucid

+ A test case written in both Python and C is attached. Compare the output

I'm pretty sure that LottaNZB worked about a week ago, when I initially

[Bug 485297] Re: p key wrong keybinding

2010-01-17 Thread jamarks
I'm moving this bug to a question because the problem was solved. It
appears I inadvertently set the p key as the select all keybinding in
the menu. Apologize for the spam.

[Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP

2010-01-17 Thread scotcarl
Hi guys. I've just followed the instructions on
http://www.peppertop.com/blog/?p=690 ( thanks mfolkerts ), and am now
able to connect to my confuser that runs ubuntu 9.10 with no problems.
I am using Xming from my laptop which runs Vista ( everyones favourite
OS ) as the client. Thanks for everyones comments, and thanks to the
dude at http://www.peppertop.com/blog/ for taking the time to spell it
all out in steps that are easy enough for me to follow. I hope that the
plain and simple tick box in the GUI is bought back, cos this is much
simpler.
