[Bug 510118] Re: [lucid regression] laptop thinks it is running on battery after resume from suspend to RAM

2010-02-06 Thread Per Ångström
I have updated the bug description to remove all mention of the battery
icon.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I am having trouble after resuming from suspend to RAM on one of my
laptops. This is on Lucid - it used to work perfectly on Jaunty.

This bug, which is a spin-off from bug #510004, concerns the power
manager: after resume from suspend it seems to think that the laptop is
- now running on battery power, so it dims the screen and displays the
- battery icon, even though the machine is still connected to the mains.
+ now running on battery power, so it dims the screen, even though the
+ machine is still connected to the mains.

This is reproducible on one of my laptop machines. On the second one, I
  have not observed this behavior.

  How to reproduce:
+ 0) Make sure you are logged in to Gnome.
  1) Make sure your computer is connected to the mains.
  2) Suspend to RAM.
  3) Resume.

- Expected behavior: The display should retain the same brightness level as
before. The battery icon should not be displayed.
- Actual behavior: The display is dimmed. The battery icon is displayed.
+ Expected behavior: The display should retain the same brightness level as
before.
+ Actual behavior: The display is dimmed.

it actually has the point. when a person is sending a tweet or writing
for wall he is not actually chatting with someone like in empathy. he is
sending this for example an email. so a send button should be there so
that the people dont get confused. at facebook or twitter we have the
buttons.

[Bug 517958] [NEW] Sync gtkspell 2.0.16-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-02-06 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Public bug reported:

Please sync gtkspell 2.0.16-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main).
It will save memory and potentially fix bug #364253 (at least in some
cases of similar spell-checking not working in Pidgin, virtaal and others
where the singleton fix
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailaid=2642198group_id=7896atid=107896

helps). Gtkspell 2.0.16-1 would be in Debian testing already if it wasn't
for outdated hppa + mips builds.

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Looks like the only change in Ubuntu packaging (besides packaging a newer
upstream version) was adding symbols, and the symbol list seems to include
the same symbols in the new Debian version.

Changelog entries since current lucid version 2.0.15-0ubuntu1:

gtkspell (2.0.16-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
- Should fix some memory leak problems (Closes: #520608)
  * Add Build-Depends-Package to .symbols file

[Bug 399441] Re: Evolution Account Sorting

2010-02-06 Thread Vish
This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody
experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the software. You
can learn more about how to do this for various upstreams at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream.
Once submitted upstream , do report back here with the upstream bug number.
Thanks in advance!

@om26er: Kindly dont invalidate bugs which need to be upstreamed. If
they havent been sent upstream , then we need to upstream them.

gnome-system-tools (2.29.3-0ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #506365)
- Move to new System Tools Backends protocol (new liboobs API).
We now only commit changes to one user at a time, reducing the
  risk for dangerous bugs.
- Include default profiles configuration file (user-profiles.conf).
Distributors should modify it to suit their needs and send them
  back for inclusion.
- When creating an user, don't force UID, main group, home directory
and shell: these parameters are now handled (better) by the platform
  tools (LP: #488158, LP: #313990)
- Allow removing home directory when deleting an user (LP: #426125).
- Don't allow deleting the last administrator account, and warn when
the user is losing its own admin rights. Same for active users
  (LP: #25947, LP: #349453)
- Don't allow creating a group with an existing GID (LP: #491434)
- Use UID and GID ranges defined by liboobs, depending on the platform's
  abilities.
- Clear suggested login entry when Real name is emptied in the new user
  dialog.
- Change GConf showall option to apply only on users. System groups are
always shown, since they are the most interesting ones.
- Various UI and string improvements.
- Change password for current user by running 'passwd', to avoid
  breaking keyrings and encrypted dirs
- Ask for PolicyKit authentication when it most makes sense, i.e.
  when showing dialogs
- Option to set encrypted home directories when creating users (on
platforms that support it) (LP: #302870)
- When editing one group, only commit changes to that group
- When changing Real name, update it in the users list (LP: #498970)
- Select current user on start, and the first one after selected user
  has been deleted
- Don't force updating configuration twice on start
  * Also fixes LP: #344182, LP: #208057, LP: #188757, LP: #372695,
LP: #99276, LP: #160862
  * debian/control:
- Bump liboobs-dev build-dep to 2.29.3
  * debian/gnome-system-tools.install:
- Don't install debian/profile
- Install upstream user-profiles.conf instead
  * Delete debian/profiles
  * Refreshed patches:
- 25_sambashare_group_definition.patch
- 90_relibtoolize.patch
  * Dropped debian/patches/85_user_gnome_about_me_for_password.patch:
- The change is obsolete in the new version
  * debian/patches/82_gst-packages-time-admin.patch:
- Updated to remove superfluous UI file changes, causing focus issues
in the users-admin password change dialog. Thanks to Will for
  spotting this (LP: #501976)

[Bug 349453] Re: users-admin pretends logged in users can be removed, while they aren't

2010-02-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-system-tools - 2.29.3-0ubuntu1

---
gnome-system-tools (2.29.3-0ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low

[Bug 517459] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV

2010-02-06 Thread Sascha Grossenbacher
I do have Dropbox installed, which contains a nautilus extension. I
assume it is possible that the crash happened in that extension, that
would explain why the retracer does not have the debug symbols for
that...

Will try to reproduce manually and if it doesn't work out. set the state
to won't fix.

2010-02-06 Thread snakingmax
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 32963 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/32963

To solve this problem temporarily you need to change the gstreamer
configuration:

Type in your console: gstreamer-properties

Now go to Video - Default Output
and select plugin: X Window System (without Xv)

Finally restart the windows manager for the changes to take effect.

[Bug 160862] Re: users-admin (System-Administration-Users and Groups) overwrites group file

2010-02-06 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Master5597: do you mean you're able to reproduce this bug consistently
when creating an user with a password longer than 48 chars? I've tried
to get the same result with a Live CD of 9.04, and I don't get any
problem. Could you attach your /etc/passwd and /etc/group files,
possibly replacing usernames to protect your privacy?

BTW, 9.04 is not an LTS, so please confirm you really mean 9.04 a.k.a.
Jaunty, and not 8.04 LTS, which is Hardy.

These questions are only meant to check that we can't fix this bug with
a trivial fix that could go into Hardy, or that would be forth using for
Lucid. But normally this is fixed by a more general change in Lucid as
of today.

2010-02-06 Thread Sense Hofstede
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

  9.10: Nautilus 2.28.1

A file/directory without write permissions shows a lock emblem even
  though you can access it.

And this icon/emblem just looks the same as a file/directory that can
  not even be read.

The difference in permissions should result in appropriate icon differences.
(maybe put a pen behind the lock if item is not writeable)
+
+ I checked back, and can more precisely add that I see this after:
+
+ I added a second user user2 to the machine and added user1 to the user2
group. After newly logging in as user1 and browsing to
+ /home/user2 drwxrwxr-x 23 user2 user2
+
+ I see both these examples with the lock emblem although I can not
+ enter the 2nd dir:
+
+ Desktop drwxr-xr-x 2 user2 user2
+ private drwx-- 6 user2 user2
+
+ /root and /lost+found directories do display correctly with the x

[Bug 368946] Re: [i965gm] Closing and opening lid sometimes leads to screen ENDLESSLY BLINKING

2010-02-06 Thread Sigilium
Hi.
I have found out that a very simple workaround works for me: suspend and resume.
It is not so easy to trigger suspend while the screen is blinking. Therefore I
have configured the machine to suspend when the power button is pressed. Thus
my workaround in fact means pressing the power button, waiting a bit for the
machine to suspend (it takes a bit longer while the screen is blinking), and
then again pressing the power button to wake up the machine.

is at the right end of each top level of the tree. In other applications
such as nautilus and F-spot (the only two others I tried) the icon is on
the left end of the text. This seems inconsistent to me. See screenshot.

[Bug 503372] Re: Evince doesn't retain settings in Lucid

2010-02-06 Thread Ilja Sekler
I think, this is the same as the upstream bug
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=606090 and its possible
dupe https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=607475. I saw the new
behavior with Evince 2.29.5 on Karmic and found it utterly annoying too.
Unfortunately, I haven't tested with the latest trunk, maybe it has been
already reverted.

While per-file settings are generally a good thing, the option to start
Evince with the sidebar closed should be available. The other change
from 2.28.1 - default zoom value Fit Page Width for new Evince windows
- is fine IMHO.

[Bug 35545] Re: Doesn't display animated GIFs

2010-02-06 Thread Gerhard Klünger

Maybe I misunderstood something ... but since Launchpad Janitor wrote on
2009-11-05: ... Fix Committed → Fix Released I expected that with my regular
updates now all would work well. Alas my animated gif still won't move. On
double-clicking the gif on my desktop, Eye of GNOME 2.28.1 opens, displays the
gif - but without animation.

Well, my version is still 2.28.1 and not yet 2.29.1 - but what does it
mean fix released 3 month ago? Released but not delivered? Not
included in the automatic updates (Systemverwaltung
Aktualisierungsverwaltung)? What have I to do that EOG updates to V.
2.29.1?

Gruß, Gerhard

Marking this bug as Invalid because it occurred in an early development version
of Nautilus and it cannot be reproduced. Furthermore, the first function of the
stacktrace couldn't be retraced, but that does leave the possibility of this
bug being related to bug #509522 open. Therefore, please have a look there

[Bug 517740] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__VOID()

2010-02-06 Thread lelamal
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 515495 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/515495

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug.
You're welcome.

However, it is a duplicate of bug #515495.
And how would I know? If it was up to me to decide, I would have followed
Apport, and considered bug #515495 itself to be a duplicate of Bug #422393.
However, I have been told that was not the case for the latter was fixed, so I
followed his advice.

Even though Sebastien requested you to report
a new bug instead of reopening the old bug, you don't have to create
 three. One is enough.
One may be enough now, but not before. Again: how would I know when could that
have been enough? I had been instructed to use Apport to open a new bug for it
might have been a different or new issue... but then I thought that Apport is
the same tool whose precision I had been instructed to question and ignore, so
I believed it safer to report each new instance of this particular bug and wait
for retraicing. In the end, I am an average user, while Sebastien is the
expert, and I would never question his word. Anyway, now that I have an
official word on the matter, I know it is useless to keep reporting this bug.
