[Bug 515336] Re: nautilus crashes when TRASH, COMPUTER, or NETWORK clicked

2010-02-23 Thread theunsheydenrych
I have the same problems
Nautilus crash when trying to open the Trash folder, and it only crashes if
there is items in the Trash folder, otherwise it opens fine.
It also crashes when trying to connect to remote server.

After a crash all the desktop icons is gone.

Attached is a valgrind.log
Hope it helps in finding the problem.
I will also apply the above remedy to fix the problem.

[Bug 80684] Re: Randomly stops playing radio streams

2010-02-23 Thread Pasquale Di Gennaro
I'm using ubuntu 9.10. I experience a similar problem (rhythmbox
randomly stopping playing radio) just at home where I have a not so good
adsl connection and a wireless access point. No problem at work, where I
have a very stable and fast connection.

So I think that this bug is related to the quality of the internet
connection.

I do not know if this helps, but at home I have similar problems with
wget, which randomly stops when downloading big files. No problem at all
while streaming video with moonlight

[Bug 507510] Re: Blackberry Curve 8310 is not Automatically Mounted by Filesystem

2010-02-23 Thread Martin Pitt
OK, in order to figure out what's wrong I think I need simultaneous logs
from all three. Please remove the blackberry, open a Terminal, and
copypaste the following commands into it:

  gvfs-mount -oi /tmp/gvfs.log 21
  devkit-disks --monitor-detail /tmp/dkd.log 21
  udevadm monitor -e --udev /tmp/udev.log 21

Then plug it in, wait 10 s, and check if the bug happened.

  - If so: please close the terminal, and attach /tmp/gvfs.log, /tmp/dkd.log,
and /tmp/udev.log here.
  - If not: close the terminal, reopen one, and start over.

Thanks!

[Bug 501670] Re: g_set_prgname() called multiple times

2010-02-23 Thread Michael Jonker
I am experiencing that this is not just a hidden error. My Gnome-Do
Docky is badly affected. It seems that it starts up a double process
which causes the dock to disappear at random times, and sometimes not at
all at startup. (a random behaviour). This is worked around by opening
the process manager and killing one of the processes.

When I run Gnome-Do from the command line, this is the message I get
(after a fresh install of 9.10)

(/usr/lib/gnome-do/Do.exe:2819): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called

(/usr/lib/gnome-do/Do.exe:2819): Wnck-CRITICAL **: wnck_set_client_type

[Bug 453072] Re: Context menu for an USB pendrive shows Unmount, Eject and Safely Remove Drive

2010-02-23 Thread David Siegel
I don't think we should pursue a solution that has normal users doing
one thing and advanced users stuck with a terminal. There must be a
solution that normal users find easy to use and advanced users
appreciate.

[Bug 526379] [NEW] GDM login fails with regular gnome-session (lucid, i386)

2010-02-23 Thread zvaral
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

After installing lucid alpha2 and updating the packages (Feb 22, 2010)
regular gnome-session can not be obtained from gdm. After clicking the
login name and typing the password, gdm returns to the original login
screen without starting the default gnome-session. Failsafe gnome-
session however will work if I select this option from the select
session pop-up menu.

[Bug 523634] Re: libgdu0 should Depends on udisks

2010-02-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-disk-utility -
2.29.0~git20100222.e85476-1

---
gnome-disk-utility (2.29.0~git20100222.e85476-1) experimental; urgency=low

  [ Michael Biebl ]
  * Git snapshot of the upcoming 2.29.0 release:
- Port to udisks.
- Grid based UI for palimpsest.
- Initial support for LVM2.
  * Remove patches
- debian/patches/01-reiserfs-support.patch (merged upstream)
- debian/patches/02-link-against-libx11-for-xkb.patch (merged upstream)
- debian/patches/99-autoreconf.patch (no longer required)
  * debian/control
- Update package descriptions for the DeviceKit-disks → udisks renaming.
- Add Build-Depends on libavahi-ui-dev (= 0.6.25), and replace
  devicekit-disks (= 007) Build-Depends with udisks (= 1.0.0~).
- Replace Depends on devicekit-disks (= 007) with
  udisks (= 1.0.0~), udisks ( 1.1.0).
- Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.4. No further changes.
  * debian/*.symbols
- Update symbols files for libgdu0 and libgdu-gtk0.

  [ Martin Pitt ]
  * Add 01_delay_autostart.patch: Delay autostart of the gdu daemon for 10
seconds. It is not needed immediately (thus no need to slow down initial
session startup) and is not visible permanently (thus it won't cause
visual disruptions later on). This depends on the patch in GNOME #608402,
and will be a no-op if that's not available.
  * debian/control: Move udisks dependency from g-d-u to libgdu0, since it's
really the library which talks to it. Otherwise you could not install
g-d-u and get crashes in GNOME. (LP: #523634)

[Bug 453072] Re: Context menu for an USB pendrive shows Unmount, Eject and Safely Remove Drive

2010-02-23 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
@David Siegel
I strongly disagree. First of all, advanced users appreciate terminal because
it's for them (e.g. for me) faster and more convenient. On the other hand,
non-technical users shouldn't touch the terminal. This itself contradicts Your
claim. Besides, I find it the best solution to provide default users with as
few options as possible which means they don't need an unmount option. If they
really want to mount their pendrive again, they can just plug it out and in and
it works. If You're an advanced user, You can also do that but You may consider
it more convenient to just use the terminal.

Re: [Bug 453072] Re: Context menu for an USB pendrive shows Unmount, Eject and Safely Remove Drive

2010-02-23 Thread David Siegel
That's not what I said. Users are of course free to use the terminal if they
wish, I don't mean to prevent them from doing that; and as far as options
are concerned, moderation is always better than starvation. I just think
that applying the pattern of designing one interface for normal users and
a different interface for advanced users is naive and will lead to a
disjointed feeling desktop for all.

[Bug 517616] Re: User's menus are always kept unchanged

2010-02-23 Thread Aron Xu
Okay, now I am trying to make it clear.

I just install Lucid with daily-live cd and everything works at that
time, then install/remove software to fit my own requirement, I don't
know how many software I've installed/removed, but the final package
list in my system is attached before. Then I switch to another user's
account, the menu aren't changed at all, that is to say even I've
removed an application, its menu item is still there, or I've installed
some new applications, their menu items aren't appeared after
installation. The menu in other user's account (I mean except the
orignal one that can use sudo) is freezed to be like the very initial
status that the system has been installed.

[Bug 491476] Re: Sony-Ericsson K750i mobil doesn't automount as pendrive

2010-02-23 Thread Martin Pitt
OK, seems there is something wrong with the volume monitor then. If you
do pidof gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor in a Terminal, do you get a number as
output or nothing?

- If you got a number, copypaste this command into a terminal:

   strace -vvs 1024 -f -o /tmp/gdu.trace `pidof gvfs-gdu-volume-
monitor`

- If you did not get a number, do

  strace -vvs 1024 -f -o /tmp/gdu.trace /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-gdu-volume-
monitor

Then plug in the drive, wait a little for the output to settle down;
press Control-C, and attach /tmp/gdu.trace here.

Re: [Bug 503082] Re: Totem doesn't play DVD 5.1 audio

2010-02-23 Thread Matt Zimmerman

I've tried recreated this bug report with libgstreamer-0.10-0 version
0.10.26-1 in Lucid. It took me a while to get the DVD playing since DVD
menus don't seem to work but I was able to heard sound through my
headphones for a 5.1 channel DVD. My audio output setting in Totem was
also Stereo. Is this still currently and issue for you?

I'm having trouble testing this as well, because DVD menus are broken (this
was working when I filed the bug). Is there a bug open about that?

I tested by manually pointing totem at a .VOB file with 5.1 audio, and it
did produce sound, at least until I tried to seek. When I tried to seek,
playback stopped entirely, and the totem window stopped responding (had to
force quit).

Seeking worked fine on a .VOB with 2 channel audio, so I think there is
still a problem with 5.1 (though it may be different).

I did a test by copying the file filters.svg to another directory and
visiting it with Nautilus and this file seems to cause the crasch. This
is a big file and take time to load in Inkscape, but no crasch there.

[Bug 340862] Re: save anyway dialog shows up when backup turn off

2010-02-23 Thread Oliver Joos
I confirm that this is still an issue in Karmic and in Lucid alpha 2.
Typically it occurs when multiple users want to edit a file and
therefore make it -rw-rw-rw-. A usecase is a notes.txt that has to be
editable from a Live-CD and your normal account.

To reproduce:
1 sudo touch /test.txt
2 sudo chmod a+rw /test.txt
3 gedit /test.txt# no sudo here!
4 Change and save test.txt

= Error about not being able to save a backup even if backups are
disabled in gedit preferences!

[Bug 513261] Re: evince assert failure: *** glibc detected *** evince: free(): invalid pointer: 0xb5abf8c9 ***

2010-02-23 Thread fiat1100d
I noticed the same behaviour reported by Lucian:
- evince crashes when opening DVI without Valgrind;
- it displays fine when slowly opening DVI using Valgrind;
- after that the same DVI document still opens correctly when running without
Valgrind.

From the debugger logs, I see that the ~/.texmf-var directory is used for
generating fonts.
If I try to delete ~/.texmf-var (rm -r .texmf-var from Home directory) after
the above passages, and then run evince for opening the same DVI document, it
crashes again. But, if I run evince with Valgrind, then the document opens fine
as in the above mentioned steps.

Lucian, could you check this?

[Bug 526449] [NEW] Braille keyboard layout unava ilable in Gnome’s keyboard layout manager

2010-02-23 Thread JF
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

In a former version of Ubuntu (I don’t remember whether that was in
Hardy or Intrepid), there was a Braille keyboard layout. IIRC I
activated it by SystèmePréférencesClavier
(SystemPreferencesKeyboard), tab Agencements (Layouts), button Ajouter
(Add), tab Par pays (By country).

Now, there, in Ubuntu Karmic Koala, the Braille keyboard has
disappeared. That’s unfortunate because that driver allowed to easily
type the Braille patterns (U+2800..U+28FF).

The driver is still present in the file /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/brai
but I find no way to add it into my keyboard list.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386

[Bug 453072] Re: Context menu for an USB pendrive shows Unmount, Eject and Safely Remove Drive

2010-02-23 Thread Dario Bertini
I disagree with Michał Gołębiowski... i know the way around with the
terminal, but to say that the terminal is more convenient a priori is
simply wrong:

if we already have a place to manage the eject/umount of the devices,
with the users (all users, even advanced ones) accustomated to reach
there to perform the desired operation, it's unconvenient to force them
to think:

oh, right... i want to umount the device i'm seeing here in nautilus,
but here i can only eject it... if i want to umount i have to open (if
it's not already opened) a terminal and tab the way all to the
mountpoint

however i agree with the idea of presenting users with as few options as
possibile, and if there isn't a better solution i guess that removing it
altogether is better than what we have now...

maybe (since umount is typically used to repartition/format a volume) it
would be good if palimpsest supported partitioning or if gparted made
more visible their umount command (right now is in the context menu)

[Bug 346083] Re: gnome-about-me misses fprintd for fingerprint authentication support

2010-02-23 Thread Anton Kraus
I also use an Authentec AES2501 sensor and have today made the switch to
your PPA.

There have been no problems. Logging in, sudo-ing in a console, starting
gksu-applications like synaptic, unlocking the screen - everything works
:)

The fingerprint reader feels more reliable than before, with less errors
recognizing my fingerprint.

Previously I had been using libpam-fprint (without the d) with manual
modifications to /etc/pam.d/common-auth. But purging the package,
commenting out my manual changes and running sudo pam-auth-update
--force brought everything to the desired settings.

[Bug 334082] Re: Most mp3 files listed with Unknown length

2010-02-23 Thread Nigel Babu
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. If you could test the
current Ubuntu development version, this would help us a lot. If you can
test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could
upload updated logs relevant for this particular issue.

[Bug 459719] Re: Can't select text with double-click in Evolution email previews

2010-02-23 Thread Sierra
This does affect me, also. It appears however, that double/triple clicked
segments of text ARE selected but not highlighted (inverted). For example,
selecting a word by double clicking, momentarily highlights the word, but it
immediately reverts to un-highlighted. However, when typing, the word
selected will be overwritten. The immediate un-highlighting action also
appears to clear the clipboard.
This only occurs in HTML mode. When creating or editing non-HTML messages the
multi-click selection work as expected.

[Bug 451167] Re: gnome-system-log crashed with SIGSEGV in calloc() while adding a new filter

2010-02-23 Thread Oliver Joos
In Karmic final release I am not able to reproduce the crash anymore.

Filters like '(W)' do work now, but also match 'WW', because the
brackets are interpreted as special characters of a regular expression.
This is not very obvious but the expected behavior.
