[Bug 535534] Re: nautilus crashes when mounting remote directory
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 535322] Re: no gui options to switch title bar buttons back to right side
I believe that they've finally decided to keep the window control buttons on the right for the new themes in Lucid, so that solves your basic problem. But the more general problem of not being able to control the location of the window controls still exists. gnome-appearance- properties does give you the option to change the window border to another given variety, but does not allow you to edit existing window borders, which would be a nice feature. ** Package changed: ubuntu = gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) -- no gui options to switch title bar buttons back to right side https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/535322 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 433500] Re: gvfsd memory leak
I also have this problem ! I am running Ubuntu (vanilla/Gnome) 9.04. The problem only appeared 3 days ago though, and from reading the above comments it seems I have the same context: - leaving the computer running 24/7 - I did started a Virtualbox session a few days ago and it's been running 24/7 as well - gfvsd ate 2GB yesterday evening. I ended the process and instantly got my 2GB back. This morning the machin was unresponsive and gfsd (must have restarted automatically, somehow ?), verdict : 3GB had leaked ! 2GB in RAM (hence filling/saturating the 3.2GB of RAM I have available), and putting the remaining 1GB on swap. I am very surprised that such a disaster is considered only as a low importance bug ?! I saw a comment above talking about power saving settings. If it does matter, then I guess I should add that all power saving features are disabled (it a desktop computer). No screensaver, hard drives alwyas running, everything always on. I am not terribly skilled at debugging, and other subscribers to this bug seem more able than I am, but if there is sometihng useful that I could contribute, I will definitely make the effort, as this gigantic and fast growing memory leak is giving me nightmares now I have hit it ! :-/ -- gvfsd memory leak https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433500 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 234911] Re: copy/paste bug in gedit leads to corrupted files
Right to follow this up... I am getting very similar behavior with this system setup: Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 gedit 2.28.0 Bus 002 Device 005: ID 045e:0039 Microsoft Corp. IntelliMouse Optical To reproduce this behavior you open the text editor as the previous user says choose an item to copy and copy it. Scroll with the mouse wheel say two line to see more text on the page then click one right click and paste and nothing appears where you pasted but it does appear somewhere else in the document. Clicking edit undo will let you find where gedit has placed the text. This is causing corruption in my programming. The solution to the bug as it stands might give a clue as to what the issue is. You must click twice on the paste location and then gedit pastes where it should do. This also happens when scrolling with the mouse button and pressing it to paste what you have selected. The text is getting pasted off screen so that is why it is hard to notice it going on. You could assume that the copy/paste failed and try again each time corrupting your work more and more. [Bug 535606] [NEW] lucid: GDM resets video mode, although it's already set by kernel
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Ubuntu 10.04 alpha 3, package version 2.29.92-0ubuntu1 Lucid uses the very nice new feature of kernel mode setting, already setting the video mode correctly during boot time. However, when the boot is through and gdm takes over, the system freezes (sometimes with boot messages still visible, sometimes with an incomplete gdm login screen) until a button is pressed. Then, gdm (or X?) resets the video mode, as far as I can tell to the same settings as the kernel already did. The login-screen is only usable after this reset. This behavior was appropriate when the the bootscreen and gdm use different video modes, but should not happen when they are same (which is what we presumably want anyways). I'm not sure where to file this bug, so feel free to move it to kernel or X. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- lucid: GDM resets video mode, although it's already set by kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/535606 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Compiz is the issue here when it is set to normal mode the copy paste bug in gedit appears. When we turn on advanced settings the copy and paste bug seems to disappear in part see below. We turn it off and it it seems to have gone completely. The select, copy and click on new location and paste bit works fine. This has uncovered a new bug this happens whether compiz is on or off : Highlight a bit of text and clicking the scrollwheel at a new location to copy and paste seems to jump back to the original location of the text selected and sometimes pasted where you have just click and other times not. Actually, that error should only happen when you try to change your *own* name. The fact that the name seems to change while it doesn't is an unrelated bug that should be easy to fix. @lavinog - I agree on your assertion that it is counterintuitive to keep a battery at low capacity for a portable device. Which is why I think having profiles is a good alternative. However, a lot of people use their laptops as desktop replacements and it makes sense for them to choose a optimize battery lifespan - battery will not be fully charged option. As I have read on many sites, even charging batteries only when they fall below 90% is far better than continuous charging. A 90% charge is still a very acceptable number for portable devices. [Bug 535660] [NEW] Regression: file operations dialog cannot be hidden
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus In Lucid, the Nautilus file operations dialog no longer shows an icon in the notification area and instead shows an icon in the indicator applet. The problem with that is that in Karmic when you clicked on the notification area icon the dialog would hide itself and when you clicked it again it would show. In Lucid clicking the indicator icon opens a menu with a single item show copy dialog and clicking it always shows the file operations dialog (including restoring it if its minimized). The first regression is the need for two clicks and the second regression is that clicking the menu again does not hide the dialog. After testing I verified that one can close the dialog using the window close button and then the operation continues and the dialog can be shown using the indicator icon, but this use case is not very discoverable: many users will hesitate to click on the close button as in most circumstances closing a window that does something is equivalent to stopping the operation. Suggestions: 1. remove the menu from the indicator icon and use just a click on the icon to show and hide the file operation dialog. 2. disable the file operations dialog's close button - clicking on it will not do what users expect and it is just confusing. 3. add a real button in the file operations dialog labeled Hide (possibly with a checkbox always hide file operations) to hide the dialog in addition to the undiscoverable actions of clicking on the indicator icon or closing the window. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Regression: file operations dialog cannot be hidden https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/535660 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
