Do you happen to have a media player like rhythmbox running in the

mount your camera making it inaccessible to other programs.

For rhythmbox the solution is simple: disable the MTP plugin.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I just upgraded my June 2009 MacBook Pro from Karmic to Lucid.

The backlight control keys are now handled; the current setting shows up
in the notification area of the screen when I press them. But they do

adjust brightness depending on lighting level in the computer's

@scholli

There is now an option in gnome-appearance-properties to Reverse The
Button Layout is specified by the theme. Simply clicking on that will
send the maximize, minimize, and close icons to the right. The button
layouts are now specified in the index theme. The new themes will work
flawlessly with custom layouts (trough corruption) as soon as the
metacity patch lands and compiz is rebuilt. Dust was just updated to
support this as well along with many other nice tweaks.

[Bug 552043] [NEW] tracks stop playing, crashing rhythmbox

Occasionally during play, the track will stop playing. Skipping to the
next song works, but the information for the previous song stays on the

the track that stopped playing was. Skipping again gets the now
playing area to update and the track time to reset. One time after
skipping the song that got stuck, Rhythmbox crashed.

[Bug 546494] [NEW] LCD brightness not correct on Asus Eee 1005

2010-03-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello,

This is a regression.
I had Karmic on Asus Eee PC 1005PE and had brightness set at 100%.
After upgrading to Lucid Beta 1 I have noticed a darker display.

cat /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCDD/brightness
levels: 0 3 6 9 12 16 19 21 24 27 29 30 32 33 34 36
current: 36

Testing it, I figured out that level 30 is the brightest, 32 is off and
upper levels are just like the first levels, maybe 36 being equivalent
to level 24.

[Bug 552043] Re: tracks stop playing, crashing rhythmbox

2010-03-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 495671] Re: No login notifications should imply no login indicators

2010-03-30 Thread Conscious User
As I proposed in Bug #440068, I'm removing the duplicate status of this

the one reported here. I'm also confirming it.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 440068

[Bug 440068] Re: Messaging menu shows entries for users without messages

2010-03-30 Thread Conscious User
Okay, I made all the changes proposed in the title and description, and
#495671 went back to standing on its own.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: empathy
+
+ This bug had originally two parts: (1) the messaging menu showing
+ Empathy login entries despite login notifications have being disabled by
+ the user and (2) those entries not being properly identified with a
+ connected string instead of a timestamp, as the specification in
+
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MessagingMenu#Recommended%20behavior%20for%20instant%20messaging%20clients
+ demands.
+
+ This report will now focus on (1), and (2) was moved to Bug #495671.
+
+ Original description below:

The messaging menu frequently shows message entries in the menu for
  users I haven't sent/recieved messages to/from. My guess is they've come
online/offline, and this notification is what ends up in the messaging
  menu.

If these entries are going to show up in the messaging menu, they should
be distinguished somehow from ones which actually have messages to read.

This is reproducible.

a new window appears
I am able to see my own webcam operating
I do not see the other part webcam, neither any audio communication is possible.

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2010-03-30 Thread Pyramid Technologies
@scholli Perhaps you have hit on it right there. Make every theme work
either with the wacked out max, min, close now on the left OR the proper
min, max, close on the right like 95% of the World's computer users are
used to.

I know about the Dust theme, but I don't care fo it and I don't want
to be locked into one theme or a limited number of it.

That being said, how would something like this affect applications?
Would changing the theme also change button order/location for each
application on the PC as well? IF so, then that would be wonderful
because then no hacks would be needed and it could be theme-driven and
the user could choose.

For those of us who use Ubuntu @ home as our only OS, but must work on
Windows @ work, we could have it as max, min, close now on the right.

For those who use Macs and Ubuntu, they can have it the other way on the
left.

Now like I said, if it's a global-theme-based change that affects all
applications etc, that'd be cool, and in that way, I CAN support such a
change. I believe that the current way of gconf editing may break
things, or at least cause wacked out drop shadow effects, etc.

[Bug 551064] Re: GUI hangs after manual start - system broken

2010-03-30 Thread Tom Louwrier
To be a bit more precise: what happened was that after issuing 'startx'
the screen would switch mode and the cursor appeared, but the background
stayed all black and there it stopped. No disk activity, just a little
arrow on a dark screen.

Well, I'm still not clear on what broke and why, but managed to repair it by
booting recovery mode, choosing a root session and executing 'apt-get install
gnome-desktop-environment --reinstall --force-yes' which downloaded and
reinstalled some 120+ packages.
Probably some dependency in one of the recent updates that wasn't handled
properly.
Seems ok now, can get into my desktop again. Claiming nothing here (yet) about
the other bugs but it seems this one is fixed.

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2010-03-30 Thread Mike Rushton
@dashua There is no option to reverse the button layout in the
appearance settings off the bat. The only time I have seen this option
come up is if you pick either of the two new themes and then manually
edit the gconf settings to change the buttons to be on the right side.
At this point if you go back into the appearance settings and pick the
other of the two new themes it will put the icons back on the
wrong(left) side, tell you that the theme was made for buttons to be on
the wrong(left) side and THEN give you the option to revert the buttons
back to the way you had previously set them up using gconf.

It would be nice if they gave us the option to move the icons to either
side regardless of where they are set currently and regardless of what
theme has been selected.

It would be even nicer if they would just concentrate on improving user
experience instead of frustrating it for no valid reason.

Andrea: In the xterm, type gnome-session. Then install gnome-desktop-
environment to see if it fixes the problem. Also, did you attempt to fix
a conflict with fuse before this happened? Thanks.

[Bug 552113] [NEW] The gnome-archive manager does not open due to missing libc++.5.so when opening rar-files

2010-03-30 Thread Maartem
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

the archive manager is giving me these clues:

rar: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directoryDescription:

Ubuntu 9.10
Release:9.10

I was hoping to open a .rar file, but instead the package manager showed
me the commanline imput that I do not possess libstd5 anymore. The file
seems not corrupt since commandline unrar programs are still able to
extract the file.
