[Bug 405544] Re: Unable to burn CD or DVD with 2.6.31 kernel

2010-04-04 Thread Petr_Kosv
I've read this thread. Now have done:
- sudo apt-get update,
- sudo dist-upgrade.
Still cannot burn - correctly md5summed - CentOS-5.4-i386-bin-1of6.iso. Neither
via this standard procedure:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto#Ubuntu, nor from within
brasero or gnomebaker.

This is on 2.6.31-20-generic, Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala; the
hardware is ok for sure. (Brasero 2.28.2, as well as gnomebaker 0.6.4
can't burn the above .iso for me.)

From my perspective of almost the layman - the bug is still here.

[Bug 555022] [NEW] side panel tree rendering problem with right to left languages

[Bug 533956] Re: Wrong edges rendering with xcompmgr

2010-04-04 Thread Philip Newborough
Not sure if this helps, but from what I have read, this issue seems to
apply to applications which use the VTE widget. I have read quite a few
confirmations of this bug, but I cannot tell whether the bug should be
filed against applications using VTE, VTE itself, or xcompmgr. I would
suspect it to be the latter, but only because it was really only
produced as a proof of concept and because other compositing tools, such
as Xfce's compositor and cairo-compmgr do not seem to be affected.

I just tried to follow steps leading to the bug and it's as same as first time.

A -debug parametr doesn't exist anymore and since an output file didn't contain

[Bug 555054] [NEW] last.fm plug-in in wrong category

2010-04-04 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

This is a minor issue, but anyhow:

Since last.fm is a paying service (free access only lasts for a very

[Bug 263822] Re: RTL (right to left) support in terminal (BiDi)

2010-04-04 Thread Usama Akkad
I've got this respond:

Hi,

uahello I wonder if mlterm support embedding and if it can replace vte.

I think the simplest way to substitute mlterm for vte is

to support XEmbed protocol and wrap embedded mlterm screen

in a GTK+ widget which provides vte compatible API functions.

It looks interesting, but not so easy. At present I don't

have a plan to try it.

Normally you wouldn't have to create the public folder yourself, it's
already created.

However, the public-write directory creates files owned by

the process should be running as your user, so there is likely a

[Bug 555113] [NEW] w-lan looses connection after down

2010-04-04 Thread etxkesa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-nettool

After I upgraded the Netbook Remixof Karmic Koala (9.10) from kernel release
2.6.31-14 to 2.1.31-20 I have noticed that the wireless network has become
noticeably less stable. I have found that after I hibernate or put the netbook
to sleep. The unit is an MSI Wind U130. I have found the unit saying it is
searching for a connection, but if i click on the wlan item on the task bar, it
says I'm already connected. If I open the terminal window, and type ifconfig I
can see that I have the right IP address.
In some instances I have been asked for the WPA2 code to access the network
multiple times, despite my having connected several times earlier without
having to give the code. I have also seen my SSID appear twice in the list of
available networks.

I have now rebooted in the earlier kernel release and this seems much
more stable.

Regards Ken Sayers

[Bug 555122] [NEW] Cannot adjust brightness in Lucid Lynx

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

gnome-power-manager (2.30.0-0ubuntu1)

Pressing the keyboard shortcuts (Fn + F7/F8) does not adjust the screen
brightness. When the AC adapter is removed, brightness dims to minimum,
when plugged in, brightness appears to be at a maximum.

Also, when the keyboard shortcuts are used, the notification in the top
right appears flashes on each key press, but the bar and the brightness
do not change.

I've done some research on this issue and it seems like the call to

committed. Could this be the cause of this bug?

[Bug 494394] Re: Cannot login with gdm after upgrading to lucid

2010-04-04 Thread Davide Lasagna
Some updates. After creating the new user i've copied all files of my
previous home dir to the new dir and i cannot login again, even with the
new user. To do some debug, i moved back all files, one by one, and I
discovered that the last lines in .bashrc prevent gdm from letting me
login.

These are the lines:

# enable programmable completion features (you don't need to enable
# this, if it's already enabled in /etc/bash.bashrc and /etc/profile
# sources /etc/bash.bashrc).
if [ -f /etc/bash_completion ]; then
. /etc/bash_completion
fi

You have to have the bash-completion package installed and these lines
uncommented in .bashrc.

Can someone try to reproduce this?

[Bug 405544] Re: Unable to burn CD or DVD with 2.6.31 kernel

2010-04-04 Thread nickc78

I have a similar issue too. Brasero worked fine this morning to burn an ISO
file to a blank DVD. This afternoon I have tried to do the same process to
burn a different ISO file and my laptop is no longer recognising media in the
drive. The media is the same type of Verbatim 4.7gb blank disk. This is very
frustrating as it was working fine until this morning. I have also tried with
GnomeBaker but I get the same issue. Basically the disk is not being mounted
and the DVD link does not appear on the desktop. I have tried the detect media
option in the Disk Utility software but it does not do anything. I did notice
that after I burnt the successful disk this morning even after I had removed
the disk the desktop DVD link stayed behind although what this indicates I have
no idea. Any thoughts on this being resolved with the stable Lucid release at
the end of the month? I did try the 2.6.32.2 upgrade as suggested above but it
has made no difference.

[Bug 555139] Re: Cannot enable user

2010-04-04 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Thanks for investigating the code, but I don't think the line you cite
is the source of the bug. This line is only run when changing your own
password, which is a completely different case. Furthermore, enabling an
account works for me following the same procedure as you.

So I rather suspect that changing password is failing on your system,
and that explains why the account stays disabled. Could you check that
you're able to change passwords, e.g. by running in a console 'sudo
passwd testuser' ? If you get a System Error, then you're suffering
from bug 546874.

(Then we have the more general issue of error reporting from the
backends, but that requires much more work...)

I have Docky 2.0.1 installed. If I set Docky to hide, behavior I don't use,

However I think the 'bug' is that with Docky set to not hide if you try and

[Bug 494394] Re: Cannot login with gdm after upgrading to lucid

2010-04-04 Thread Lorenzo De Liso
I can't reproduce that, also the package bash-completion is installed
by default on lucid, also the lines:

if [ -f /etc/bash_completion ] ! shopt -oq posix; then
. /etc/bash_completion
fi

are uncommented by default for new users created. I have the gdm package
version gdm_2.30.0-0ubuntu3 and I have no problems.

The default permissions of the directory for new users created is
different than karmic, so this is surely an upgrade-related problem.
However I don't think it's an gdm-related problem, because if gdm can't
write in the home directory, the configuration files can't be created.

Just give the permission to access, write, delete, rename and read the
files in the directory.

I'm going to mark the bug in gdm as invalid because it isn't an gdm-
related problem.

[Bug 533758] Re: Button order/position should be part of Theme

It looks like what's actually been done in the current Lucid is that a hack has
done into gnome-control-center

theme.

IMHO it's still right to fix metacity/compiz as per Kevin's patch
though.

in Ubuntu package libgtk2.0-0 version 2.18.3-1ubuntu2.2.

Would you like a full backtrace?

yes, a backtrace would indeed be helpful. Without really knowing what's
going on, I think a valgrind report might be helpful as well!

[Bug 228054] Re: Sony Vaio PCG-R505 Fn keys do not work as expected

2010-04-04 Thread Alex Emelianov
Yes. The Fn keys bring up OSD, but functions differ somewhat. Volume and
brightness are controlled by repeating keystrokes, while in the original design
they were controlled by the scroll wheel. Four Fn keys are used instead of
original three; instant mute and going back to original volume after unmute is
not available.
Original (Sony) key binding:
Fn+F3: mute/unmute
Fn+F4: scroll wheel controls volume
Fn:F5: scroll wheel controls brightness
Fn:F6: no function

Current binding (10.04 Beta1):
Fn+F3: decrease volume, muting after reaching minimum
Fn+F4: increase volume by repeating Fn+F4
Fn+F5: decrease brightness
Fn+F6: increase brightness

[Bug 71593] Re: glChess has no 3D

2010-04-04 Thread Fred
Well python-opengl and python-gtkglext1 are not dependences because they are
optional.
They are only needed for 3D, so they're not dependencies.
Chess should prompt to install them upon user try switch to 3D mode.

Chess is no longer installed by default?
What is this?
Chess is the most popular and successful game ever in history!
Ubuntu must have chess! Windows have it!
