[Bug 569667] [NEW] Error communicating with gnome-keyring-daemon

2010-04-25 Thread aviramof
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

i have a problem for some time now that when i open empathy it asks me
to enter my accounts again and when i go and check at seahorse i see
this message in the bottom of the windows.

when i recently installed Ubuntu RC i set password for my key ring but
later i set it as unsafe storage because empathy keep asking me for
password when i opened it because when i installed Ubuntu i set auto
login and not the default option.

the reason i did that is because i'm the sole user of this computer the
question is what exactly is causing the problem is it the unsafe storage
that is buggy or is it something else that is causing the problem that
seahorse is showing?

When i try to create a new password i also get this error Error
communicating with gnome-keyring-daemon

the problem usually fix itself after restart but returns again later.

What ever information you need just tell and thanks in advance.

Running two montiors ATI Radeon HD 5470 asus laptop. External monitor

and it goes away. No entry into the log file it just crashes.

Works fine on the screen of the laptop itself.

[Bug 569676] [NEW] Every 10-20th time I log in gdm, my complete USB-hub dissappears

[Bug 521290] Re: keyboard layouts - no default layout for system

2010-04-25 Thread Christian Stefanescu
I have this issue too, I use two keyboard layouts: US and DE (German).
Although US is at the top of the list (I believe this is how the default
is set), sometimes the layout changes randomly to DE; usually when
switching apps (although Separate layout for each window is disabled).

I believe the older Gnome versions had a default checkbox for each
entry in the layout list.

[Bug 560782] Re: add panel won't work till new login

2010-04-25 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
I can confirm the issue. It seems to be a screen refresh problem or
something similar.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Log into GNOME.
2. Open any window and maximize it (this step is not mandatory, but a maximized
window is useful to see the effects of this bug).
3. Right click on the top panel - New panel.

Result: the maximized window is narrowed from the right edge. The
desktop can be seen throughout the space of the right, where the newly
created panel should be. Clicking in that space is like clicking in the
desktop, so it seems to be no real panel. I need to logout and then
log in again in order to see the new panel.

for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at

bug in nautilus.
(With many applications, you can report a future bug directly on the

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2010-04-25 Thread Pako
scholli, I will quote a part of a post from respected computer
journalist:

Here's another quick observation - at risk of stirring the pot on the
controversy about this change. While working with the RC last night, I
realized that I had already pretty much gotten used to the window button
location, and it wasn't disturbing me as much as it had been. In
addition, I see a small benefit in it because of the way that I normally
work with multiple windows, when I Maximize/Restore/Minimize windows,
the buttons tend to be more easily accessible, and seem a bit more
convenient. That is clearly a question of personal taste and work
habits, but my point is simply that this change is not the end of the
world as we know it

[Bug 569694] [NEW] date/time applet steals focus when refreshing weather

2010-04-25 Thread Aigars Mahinovs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When dime/date applet has several locations set and a checkbox is set to
display temperature and weather, then this applet steals focus every
time it updates the weather information.

I could be wrong with my diagnosis above, so let me expand:
1. Fully up to date Lucid (upgraded from Karmic)
2. date/time applet on the Gnome panel is set to show temperature and weather
in one of the two locations that it has defined
3. every hour or so, something steals keyboard focus - if I am typing text, I
can no longer type it, if I am watching a movie I can no longer pause it, ...
4. I need to click into the current application to regain focus (or use Alt-Tab)
5. Every time the focus is stolen, before I click to return focus to current
application, the date/time applet on the panel in highlighted with a pinkish
colour (I use Radiance theme)

This bug will annoy the crap out of a LOT of users, if this goes live
and it is very likely to cause serious problems with fixing the bug #1.

[Bug 370619] [NEW] Wishlist: Display visual feedback for xkbd layout change using notify-osd

2010-04-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop

It would be great if Ubuntu applied the feature enhancement filed here (
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=567880 ) to a future release,
hopefully Karmic. I am nudging at this again in Launchpad (the opposite
direction of the usual!) since really this works best with the wonderful
notify-osd. It makes sense for Ubuntu specifically and not as much for
the GNOME project with the more complex notification-daemon.

The idea is that every time the user changes his keyboard layout, a
confirmation bubble should appear to explain it.

* This would really help users who actually do routinely change keyboard
layouts to select the correct ones. It is not obvious to add the
Keyboard Indicator applet to the panel, but there is really no other
option to get visual feedback at the moment.

* As I have learnt from experience helping people with Windows,
manufacturers in some countries (particularly officially multilingual
ones) ship operating systems with multiple keyboard layouts available.
Users tend not to expect this, and become confused if they accidentally
trigger the layout change shortcut since there is no feedback to explain
the matter (as when they change volume, for example) but their
keypresses become hopelessly mangled.

* A step towards the system documenting itself as it goes, instead of
the user needing to read manuals / consult the geeks downstairs. This is
important, because down the line it lets distributors of Ubuntu
customize it, perhaps with alternative keyboard layouts available out of
the box, without generating any issues.

Other minor thoughts may spring to mind, such as that it just feels
right and notify-osd looks pretty :)

[Bug 568755] Re: gtumb will not open image in directory with many images

2010-04-25 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Two more questions, because the backtrace seems to suggest a problem with
comments instead of one with a large number of files:
1. Does the image successfully loads if you copy it to another directory with
less images and try to open it from there?
2. Did you ever set a comment for the file?

The current patch (tested with 0.6.1.5) even seems to put photo's in

location has been explicitly set.

That's right. We just change the base directory.

Heh, you do realize this is really really really broken behavior?

[Bug 569724] [NEW] trash icon not empty after usb device unmounted

2010-04-25 Thread David Clayton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

When items on a mounted external USB device are sent to Trash, the Trash
Icon show that it has contents.

If the external device is then unmounted/removed, the Trash Icon still
shows contents even though opening the trash shows nothing there and
doing a Empty Garbage Bin still does not reset it to empty.

Plugging in the same external device allows Trash to be emptied, but
there is no real guarantee that a device will ever be plugged in again
so whatever displays the Trash icon really needs to be updated on every
mount/unmount operation if it is to provide an accurate status.

[Bug 569727] [NEW] Drives mounted via PAM_mount still show up as drives to mount

2010-04-25 Thread Ben Scholzen 'DASPRiD'
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have a hardware RAID array (encrypted via DM-Crypt) which is mounted
via PAM_mount on login. It is listed under the Places tho and can be
mounted again there, which would result in the same partition mounted
twice. The mount command gives the following output, which should hint
nautilus that the drive is already mounted:

/dev/sdh1 on /mnt/data type crypt (noatime,nodiratime)

[Bug 346083] Re: gnome-about-me misses fprintd for fingerprint authentication support

2010-04-25 Thread Jorge Suárez de Lis
Thank you David,

I've managed to get my device working by modifying the upekts driver.
I've sent the patch upstream but it can't be included as-is because I've
just replaced support of the original device upekts was intended for
with support to my device.

To solve this I could make upekts work with both devices, or add this
modified version as another driver with another name. But I still have
the ID problem: the ID 147e:2016 is also used by the upeksonly driver
for another device. What can we do about this?

The patch on the fprint mailing list, in case someone is interested:

[Bug 569786] [NEW] Lights turn on/off where the mouse is, not where the mouse was clicked

2010-04-25 Thread Carey Underwood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

It's unfortunately common to have an application not respond instantly
to clicks and other user actions, especially on lower end machines (cell
phones, machines more than a year old, etc). While waiting for the
application to catch up, one might move the mouse around, or even work
on another application in the mean time.

Lightsout handles this situation very poorly, ultimately registering the
click wherever the mouse is at the time the application catches up,
rather than where the click was originally made.

[Bug 569789] [NEW] fellswoop uses bad choices for constrasting colors, making the game unplayable for the red-green color-blind [regression]

2010-04-25 Thread Carey Underwood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Specifically, there is no contrast between red and green tiles, which is
usually caused by designers attempting to maintain the same brightness
between all colours: choosing a lower intensity of green so as to
better match the red. (ff is darker than 00ff00, and both are
lighter than ff).

An option to use shapes would be ideal, indeed the previous version had
the option of planet images which provided very effective texturing cues
in addition to colour.

Failing that, a better band of colours would alleviate the problem,
taking more care to introduce contrast. This is probably easier to
implement given the new feature of selecting the number of distinct
object types.

Thank you for your bug report. Given your report it seems the problem

Due to problems with the 2.11.2 version it was decided to downgrade

[Bug 543365] Re: gthumb thumbnails generation is done in once

2010-04-25 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for your bug report. Given your report it seems the problem
exists only in version 2.11.2 and not in 2.10.11 (the Karmic version).
Due to problems with the 2.11.2 version it was decided to downgrade
the version in Lucid to 2.10.11, so your problem should no longer exist
if you upgrade your system. Please reopen the bug by setting the status
to New if the problem reoccurs.

[Bug 557855] Re: gthumb hangs when run to import photos from USB stick

2010-04-25 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Given your report it seems likely that the problem exists only in
version 2.11.2 and not in 2.10.11 (the Karmic version). Due to problems
with the 2.11.2 version it was decided to downgrade the version in
Lucid to 2.10.11, so your problem might no longer exist if you upgrade
your system. Could you retry with the current version?
