[Bug 393138] Re: contact list oddities with xmonad
It's still an issue, but only if you're not using empathy with the indicator applet (for me). There's an option in the preferences, Show incoming messages in the messaging menu, which if un-checked displays an empathy icon in the notification panel instead of the indicator applet. If this is unchecked, then clicking the notification icon opens the empathy window (just like pidgin), but clicking it again doesn't close it and no other close action works either (eg, mod-shift-c from xmonad). On the other hand, if this option is checked and the buddy list is opened from the indicator messaging menu then it can be closed as normal. -- contact list oddities with xmonad https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/393138 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 273294] Re: Rhythmbox can not use smb:// as library location
Hi, I'm using a 64 bit Lucid and propose the following two workarounds: 1.) Mount only your mp3 directory and import the .gvfs folder into the library (imports everything). 2.) As I'm not happy with the first solution I developed a second approach which lets one import any folder or file from the network share. First create a symbolic link for the .gvfs directory (e.g. ln -s .gvfs/ gnome-shares). Then mount your mp3 share and import the desired data from the symbolic link (gnome-shares/somedir/...). The only problem now is that if one starts rhythmbox and the share is not mounted the imported files will be displayed as missing. To overcome this issue I edited the rhythmbox gnome menu (right click on menu - edit menu - rhythmbox - edit) to mount my share before rhythmbox starts: bash -c 'gvfs-mount smb://yourDomain;youru...@yourserver/yourshare/; rhythmbox %U'. My initial plan is to develop a universal workspace switcher - one that will query (and monitor) the window manager to determine the compositing engine, and then play along. I'm reading up on some of the compiz APIs now. I'd really like to incorporate some additional GUI mechanisms while I'm at it. For example, I think it would greatly enhance the functionality to have OS X Dock-like 'zoom-on-mouse-over' to allow for easier and more accurate selection/placement of windows within the applet. I probably won't get started coding until Monday, but hopefully I can have something to play with next week. I believe, at the heart of the issue is that Compiz handles virtual desktops quite differently than Metacity. Because of this, it fakes any apps using the Metacity virtual desktop API into thinking there's only one virtual desktop. I'm not sure of the details of how it does this; review the thread on this bug for some leads (hopefully). I haven't reviewed any of the patches that've been identified, because they slipped my attention; I wasn't aware any coding work had been done by anyone to attempt to address this. I believe the key to doing this right is to have the applet be compiz-aware, and use the proper API if it's running; it'll be interesting to see what the patches do. [Bug 559692] Re: MSN authentication error if email ID is @superig
Taking a hint from your mention of maximum password length, I took a look around at mine (as I use 20 character passwords by default). It seems that when I paste a new password into the hotmail site, the entry box cuts it down to 16 characters. I noticed this when I was changing it to 16 characters to test just now and my old and new passwords pasted in at the same length. I have a suspicion therefore that me and Fabio have been encountering the same problem, and that both the official client and pidgin have been truncating my password before sending it (thus why they both succeeded). I will be able to check this later today and get back to you. If that is the issue then I apologise for sending you down the wrong path with the special characters. It would probably have helped me if the hotmail site had mentioned any sort of length limit instead of just silently correcting behind the scenes. -- MSN authentication error if email ID is @superig https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/559692 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 150690] Re: Can't drag a window to another workspace
In my opinion the whole workspace thing is a hack implemented against the way X is supposed to work. Each workspace is not traditionally addressable. E.g. I cannot choose which workspace/pane my windowed application opens in - it's always the current one. E.g both xterm -display :0 xterm -display :0.0 open a window in the current workspace but xterm -display :0.1 fails with an error. In my opinion xterm -display :0 should best open in the first (or, better, current) workspace on the current X server xterm -display :0.0 should open in the 1st workspace and xterm -display :0.1 should open in the 2nd etc Even if you fix the current problem the original hack remains. Workspaces should have been implemented differently. Having said that I am very much in favour of a fix to the hack rather than the current situation. Paul Beardsell (another Paul) On 23 May 2010 02:21, Ryan Beard lampwic...@yahoo.com wrote: Paul - I had a similar prognosis. This will be a bit of a learning experience for me, but I figure this is a good place to get introduced to linux development. -ryan On Sat, 2010-05-22 at 19:41 +, PaulReiber wrote: Ryan - here's my understanding of this issue. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 160264 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160264 The black screen problem is still alive! (Core i3 530 with integrated graphics) Reliable workaround: 1. For every user on the machine repeat step 2, 3 and 4 2. go to System, Settings, Keyboard Shortcuts 3. add a shortcut name: e.g. Fix black screen command: xgamma -gamma 1.0 4. assign a combination: e.g. Crtl+Esc Whenever you expirience the problem, do the following: - type in the password of the user you want to switch to - apply the keyboard shortcut (in my case Crtl+Esc) That already saved me at least a hunderd times. I tried adding gtk-auto-mnemonics = 0 to a new file balled .gtkrc-2.0 in my home directory and logged out and back in but that did not fix it (thought it was worth a try based on some of the things I'd read on the net it sounded like it would honor the setting). Changing from Radiance to Human fixes the issue. Also you can add the standard Menu Bar to the Panel and that one does work with the new themes. Re: [Bug 150690] Re: Can't drag a window to another workspace
I'm not sure I would change hardly a word of my posting. It seems to me the multi-monitor Unix systems I was lucky enough to work on sometimes in the 1990's could have been implemented just as poorly as the multi-workspace idea we have in Gnome and similar on Linux. But they were not. If I wanted an app's display to open on a particular workspace on a monitor I could do so by specifying '-display :0.3' or to choose a particular monitor I could use '-display :3'. We miss a trick or two now. And whereas implmentation details are left unspecified the intention is clear. Where and when do we get the opportunity to use anything other than :0.0 on a modern Linux box, now? If that was sorted then this bug would not exist in its current form i.e. with a workaround simply being to disable Compiz.
