[Bug 587166] [NEW] No tooltips in clock-applet for tasks and events

2010-05-29 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The clock applet is very useful to get a quick overview of tasks and
events ahead. However, the space for subject is very limited and so most
get chopped. I find that I often have a list of Monthly meeting w...,
which doesn't really tell me much since I can have many monthly
meetings. The clock applet would be much more useful if we could display
the full subject as a tooltip when we hover.

[Bug 356309] Re: Cursor theme in appearance preferences does not change when compiz is enabled.

2010-05-29 Thread coryblo...@gmail.com
The issue is with Compiz. Create a folder named default in ~/.icons. Then
create a file called index.theme and include the following text. Make sure to
change Name= and Inherits= to the cursor of choice. Save and reload window
manager. This is only a workaround but it will make your cursor work in both
Gnome and GDM.
In Appearance Preferances be sure to change your pointer to default. Click on
the theme tab, customize, pointer tab, and select default pointer.

[Bug 586012] Re: [Maverick] XFCE system tray became unusable after upgrade to libgtk2.0-0 2.21.0-1ubuntu2

2010-05-29 Thread Lionel Le Folgoc
More info from a duplicate bug report:
When I login notification area icons appears (decorated by WM) centered on
screen, just to disappear right after. After that a new window is spawned witch
once again disappear.

The icon windows will keep flashing in the middle of the screen until i
kill xfce4-panel. Once I start a new xfce4-panel the same thing happens
once again.

The sound (xfce4-mixer) icon is attached to the panels notification area
as expected, all other icons are affected by above mentioned problem.

We don't know yet if this is an expected new behavior in gtk+ or a
regression…

[Bug 25977] Re: places menu should include the trash as a place

2010-05-29 Thread Vish
The Fix suggested here would effectively mean duplication of the Trash
in a default install.[applet and in places menu]

@arky: The Go menu also lists Templates folder, should that be in the Places
menu too?
As mentioned earlier , we already have a trash applet by default , the issue is
with the Description being Menu , that needs fixing rather than duplicating.
Further the trash can be added as an extra bookmark, if frequently used.
[I do realize the accessibility work you do for blind users though :) ]

I'v raised this issue with the accessibility team and marking as
incomplete awaiting their assessment.

[Bug 587187] [NEW] Up down keys do not navigate calendar dates, but incorrectly navigate background window

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I either:

I cannot use the up down keys to change the selected date. Instead,
pressing either up or down key navigates the background window. This

[Bug 587191] [NEW] No immediate update of appearance preferences changes

2010-05-29 Thread Aaron Peachey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Release: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Package version: 1:2.30.1-0ubuntu6~ppa54
Expected behaviour: Upon changing anything via 'Appearance Preferences' such as
the desktop background, theme, icons etc. past experience is consistent with an
expectation that changes will be reflected immediately, without needing to do
anything other than select a new item.
Experienced: When changing anything via 'Appearance Preferences' the change is
not reflected at all until the next log in or restart.

[Bug 586345] [NEW] denial of service if evolution running and computer left unattended.

2010-05-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Very often when I return the keyboard and monitor to this computer,
using my Raritan KVM switch, it is totally unresponsive to the keyboard,
and the monitor screen is blank apart from a logo which says cable not
connected. The only fix I have discovered is to switch off the
computer and switch it on again, an extended procedure from a normal
restart, because it usually involves a file system check or the computer
mysteriously trying for several minutes to find a device which it says
is in /etc/mount but actually never is when I get to look there.

I have noticed that this denial of service never seems to occur unless
evolution mail is left running. I have another computer running ubuntu
connected via the self same kvm switch, and this never fails - as soon
as I touch the keyboard, the cable not connected logo vanishes and the
screen appears. So, how, with a dead computer, do I find out what
happened and why?

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Well that's about it I guess. I suppose this is a bug in the evolution
packaging, rather than the software itself, most likely a post-removal script
missing or something. no biggie.
it happened on two different machines, so the bug is consistent.
In fact, on one machine I remove from a terminal with aptitude purge, and on
the other, thinking it was because I had by passed the graphical interface, did
it with synaptic. didn't work either.
I'll have a look at the doc to see where I need to tweak the config to get rid

[Bug 318625] Re: Rhythmbox shouldn't set illegal / special characters on filenames (i.e. ?; question mark) when ripping to NTFS volumes

2010-05-29 Thread Rygle
A follow-up on my last comment.

Please note that Wine has a bug-for-bug policy when it comes to working with
the windows API.
See http://wiki.winehq.org/WineFeatures

In other words, if the actual implementation disagrees with the
documentation, then the implementation wins. There is a lot of sense to
this policy, as the end goal is full interoperability, or Binary
Compatibility as mentioned on the page I have referenced.

This should be the same with the NTFS-3G driver. If the NTFS
documentation says full POSIX namespace support, but the NTFS
implementation differs, the implementation should win. In our case,
there are characters that are legal in the documentation, even if it is
not Microsoft's documentation, but every known official implementation
of NTFS does not allow full POSIX namespace support.

For the sake of full interoperability, this bug should not be fixed in
individual apps, but in the NTFS-3G code, just like similar issues are
dealt with on a bug-for-bug basis in the Wine code.

[Bug 587248] [NEW] rsvg crashes rending a trivial file

2010-05-29 Thread Thomas Leonard
Public bug reported:

$ cat svg.py
import gtk
loader = gtk.gdk.PixbufLoader('svg')
loader.write('style type=text/css /style')

$ python svg.py
zsh: segmentation fault python svg.py

Tested on 64-bit and 32-bit Lucid.

This is a simplified test-case. The original was an HTML error page.

I haven't investigated whether this is a security issue.

[Bug 458334] Re: Fails repeatably with DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.NotFound: The given volume was not found

2010-05-29 Thread Yuri
Thanks revoltism: my Ubuntu is using a french localization, with a
folder called Téléchargement instead of Download. Like NicoDup, a simple
move of the .iso file in an another folder (without special chars in the
name) solved the issue (or mare accurately: is a work around).

[Bug 481600] Re: Cannot delete messages from 'Deleted Items' Folder

2010-05-29 Thread Ian Macaulay
Additional background Info:

The Delete (Trash) Folder has been working OK (i.e. Deleting Items when
Logging Out or Highlighting individual messages and using Expunge
CtrlE ).

Then about 3-5 days ago (~24/5/10) noticed that Deleted Items were not
being removed from the Trash Folder so closed down/restarted evolution a
couple of times before restarting Ubuntu 9.10

After that evolution started normally but a number of previously read
e-mails appeared as unread with my new e-mails.

The Deleted (Trash) Folder still has entries (including the full message text
etc..) which cannot be deleted/expunged anymore.
Tried moving the Deleted messages to a new folder (off Inbox) which I called
weird and then selecting all hit the delete key which moved them back to the
Deleted (Trash) Folder. The Deleted (Trash) Folder now had Duplicates
(surprise! surprise!), but even more surprising Expunging CtrlE removed the
Duplicates but still left the originals.

Could this be a case of Corrupted Folders (Databases - Indexing
problems) on evolution?

My next step could be to Archive my e-mails and uninstall/reinstall
evolution and see if this clears the problem or is there a simpler
approach like deleting the Deleted (Trash) Folder Database and wait for
evolution to re-create on restart (after all I don't mind losing the
messages that I am trying to Delete!).

Hope this provides some more insight into this Bug.

regards,
Ian

[Bug 587311] [NEW] Evolution does not recieve changes made at http://www.google.com/contacts

2010-05-29 Thread Brian Zbriger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have Evolution 2.28.3 in Ubuntu 10.04 set to sync with my Google
contacts. If I create a contact in Evolution on my Google address book
while connected to the Internet and in online mode, and then go to
Google's website to look at my contacts there
(http://www.google.com/contacts), the new contact appears immediately.
Nice!

But if I delete that new contact using Google's website, it doesn't
disappear from Evolution. I can click on a different calendar in
Evolution or go to email or calendar view and then back to contacts, but
neither of these refresh my address book as I expect it might. I might
also click the connection icon in the lower left to synchronize for
offline mode, but that makes no change. I close Evolution and open it
again, still no change. Only if I try to manually delete the contact in
Evolution, disregarding the error message that results (Failed to
delete contact / Contact not found), and then close Evolution and open
it again, finally the contact is gone.

Much worse, if I create a new contact through Google's website instead
of in Evolution, it doesn't seem to appear in Evolution at all. As far
as I can remember, every contact in my Google contacts as it appears in
Evolution was either there before I synced it with evolution or created

Is it possible 10.4 has a regression?

[Bug 587311] Re: Evolution does not recieve changes made at http://www.google.com/contacts

2010-05-29 Thread Brian Zbriger
During the above process, I had the option selected under the address
book's properties to be available to work offline. If I turn that off,
and restart Evolution, the new contact finally appears, but as the only
entry in the address book. The rest of my address book is gone from
Evolution. If I turn the Copy book content... option on again I can
get my address book back, but the new contact disappears again, and
doesn't come back even if I turn the option off a second time.
