[Bug 396194] Re: build-dep f-spot doesn't install libmono-cairo1.0-cil

2010-06-12 Thread Chief Fox
This was a problem for me and this fixed it:
$ export MONO_GAC_PREFIX=/usr/ocal:/usr
$ monodevelop

Took me tons of time of sifting through forums about this issue. Well it
worked for me, and hope it does the same for you all too.

[Bug 500570] Re: Appearance Visual Effects settings lost across reboots and log out / log on

2010-06-12 Thread David Porter
The workaround in comment #5 worked for me, thanks Walter, I've been
grinding my teeth for a while on this.

Interestingly, even an empty ~/.local/share/applications/compiz.desktop
causes the symptoms described here. With an empty compiz-desktop file,
the following error message turns up in ~/.xsession-errors (and syslog):

gnome-session[6751]: WARNING: Unable to find provider 'compiz' of
required component 'windowmanager'

'fraid I don't know anything about gnome-session or compiz, so I can't
dig any further than this. BTW, I'm using a dual monitor set-up, in case
anyone else experiencing the problem here also has.

HTH

[Bug 592963] [NEW] UDEV rules ignored for ethernet (eth*) devices

2010-06-12 Thread Zakhar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Hello,

I'm trying to set my network interfaces so that they don't get random every
boot.
(eg assign eth0 to a network interface with a given MAC addr, and eth1 to the
other one)

I threw in a udev rule (in fact just modified the rules that was
automatically generated and set the ethX in it) but the system ignores
my udev rule.

Here is all the info :

$cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
# This file maintains persistent names for network interfaces.
# See udev(7) for syntax.
#
# Entries are automatically added by the 75-persistent-net-generator.rules
# file; however you are also free to add your own entries.

We see that the MAC addr 00:18:f3:cd:83:2c should have eth1 according to udev,
but in fact it gets eth0

udevadm info gets me nothing wrong about my rules selection criteria:

$ udevadm info -a -p /sys/class/net/eth0

Udevadm info starts with the device specified by the devpath and then
walks up the chain of parent devices. It prints for every device
found, all possible attributes in the udev rules key format.
A rule to match, can be composed by the attributes of the device
and the attributes from one single parent device.

[Bug 393720] Re: To hide files/directories is complex

2010-06-12 Thread Dr. Kenobi
UPSTREAM comment - DrKenobi [reporter] 2010-06-12 09:38:50 UTC

Hi! I'm not the original reporter of this enhancement but I agree with it. I
think it should be more easy to hide some folders or files. For example, if you
install an application like Google Earth a new folder is created at /home and
you never use it. I don't like to see that folder every time I open my Home
Directory.

Before I learned there where some files and directories hidden, and before I
learned how to hide something, I couldn't hide that folder.

For new people to Linux, like I was, I think it would be great to be able to
hide something like this Google Earth folder with one or two clicks. I think
that we have to made Linux as easy as possible.

I think this was solved by the update of flashplugin-installer to

[Bug 590913] Re: Adding panels produces unexpected results

2010-06-12 Thread Vish
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 590913

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 590077] Re: phonon-backends-gstreamer requires excessive dependencies

ok, so install mdadm : sudo apt-get install mdadm

BTW, if you have started using the Palimpsest Disk Utility, your disks may
already have been partitioned for the RAID. If so, you can't use Palimpsest to
remove the partitions.
Use Gparted to clean up the mess and remove any partition.

Then go back to Palimpsest to create your raid. Now, mdadm will work :)

2010-06-12 Thread Pavel Grishkov
Well, I really appreciate the workaround proposed by Igor, great job, many

However, I believe the issue is broader than just playing with the audio
group. Since it affects not 100% of users and some of them are used to hear
sound without any problems regardless of logged in users. It should be a clear
root cause stated by developers re: why this has happened.

[Bug 240437] Re: Creating an user destroys most of users and groups configuration

2010-06-12 Thread no!chance
Hi @all,

I had the same problem today on Hardy with the latest updates. I did
boot with a live CD and restored my password, shadow and group file from
by backup. I found out, that there have been 5 lines of characters with
hex sequence 0a 41 in the group file. The line before this sequence is
repeated thereafter.

I deleted the lines with these characters and users-admin works correctly.
With these line in the group file, users-admin destroys all groups, except the
first two lines (root and daemon).

I cant see any DBUS errors in my daemon.log or syslog file.

[Bug 593058] [NEW] nautilus-connect-server doesn't accept command line arguments

2010-06-12 Thread Finog
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

The nautilus-connect-server application doesn't accept command line
arguments.

For someone who's collapsed the Places menu like me but still using
Nautilus for browsing folders, it would be handy to be able to use the
terminal to make a connection or maybe _many_ connections at once!

It seems like a simplistic way of expanding the functionality of the
application without sacrificing its simplicity for the GUI-user.

[Bug 240437] Re: Creating an user destroys most of users and groups configuration

2010-06-12 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
no!chance: See bug 160862 rather. This is a know problem that is fixed
in Lucid and should be fixed at some point in Hardy too. Though the
original issue is that you had weird characters in your /etc/group file,
nowadays users-admin shouldn't get crazy when it encounters this kind of
thing.

I'm closing this report because of lack of information. There have been
many changes in Lucid that mean this bug cannot happen, so that's less
of an issue anyway.

[Bug 204202] Re: gnome-terminal ignores current keyboard layout for ctrl+key shortcuts

2010-06-12 Thread Pavel Grishkov
I must admit I've spent huge amount of time figuring out what had caused my
Ctrl key to behave in such inconvenient way as described here :)
And eventually I see many people in Gnome bugzilla claiming it may be useful to
keep it as is. It definitely have to be fixed and work as user expects it to
work. No surprises should be allowed.
A perfect example of reproducing Ctrl-C failure (from Gnome Bug 599894):
setxkbmap us,ru -option grp:caps_toggle /* works nice */
setxkbmap ru,us -option grp:caps_toggle /* we get яс symbols instead of
sending SIGINT and SIGSTOP */

Please work with GNOME developers to fix it.

[Bug 593110] [NEW] [Users and Groups] Advanced Settings: User Privileges on using Audio/Video not descriptive enough

2010-06-12 Thread Chauncellor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-tools-backends

In the user privileges section of setting up a user, one has the option
to use audio devices. This is not well-worded, as I found out (the
hard way) that this actually means that the user would be able to
EXCLUSIVELY lock the sound device. I added myself as another user on a
co-shared computer with a friend and harmlessly added myself to be able
to use sound only to mess up user switching with sound. Since one would
have a lock on the device, the other couldn't use the sound card (and
pulseaudio flips out).

Please reword this. Use audio device exclusively may not be the best
answer, but it is bad to mislabel such a harmless-seeming option.

[Bug 593108] [NEW] gnome-keyring does not stop on logout

2010-06-12 Thread J S
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

I had to do something using the gnome desktop. I exit, and then start
using my window manager, fluxbox. Unfortunately I can no longer to an
svn update because I get stuff like:

Password for '(null)' GNOME keyring:
svn: OPTIONS of 'https://': authorization failed: Could not
authenticate to server: rejected Basic challenge (https://***)

After much aggravation, I then discover that I have to, as root I have to kill

2010-06-12 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
No, that's really the same bug. users-admin shouldn't show that group at
all since it's plainly broken. This behavior doesn't make sense. That's
why I said we should remove the audio group, which would fix the bug for
all people that were added to it without noticing.

If that doesn't seem right, let's remove the line from users-admin.

[Bug 593126] [NEW] Should be a way to view at original size but centered

2010-06-12 Thread Endolith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

When taking multiple pictures of the same thing and comparing them for
blurriness, I want to view the photos at full size and flip through
them, but the focused area is in the center of the image, and gThumb,
for some reason, aligns the top left of the image with the top left of

[Bug 579069] Re: Unplugging AC power reports critical battery / auto-suspend; battery is actually full

2010-06-12 Thread David Tombs
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04
  Fully updated packages
  Kernel: 2.6.32-22-generic

The computer is an MSI Wind u100 netbook, 3-cell battery. The BIOS is
flashed with the latest available firmware, which is 1.0G, released on
  2010-01-04.

Upon unplugging the netbook from AC power, the panel reports that the
battery is critically low (2 minutes left) even though the indicator
applet also reports the battery is 100% charged; and then the system
auto-suspends without confirmation. After resuming from suspend, the
panel reports that the battery is 100% charged (or whatever the actual
value is.) In other words, the system is doing what is set under Power
Management, which is to suspend when the battery is critically low. The
problem is, the battery is NOT critically low, and the notification
bubble reports the battery 100% charged, but only has 2 minutes left.

Whatever information is needed, I will supply. I am not sure if this is
related to the kernel or a particular package.

This did not happen on Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10, 2.6.31 kernel.

[Bug 593131] [NEW] passphrase needs to be entered even though 'always remember passphrases whenever logged in' is selected

2010-06-12 Thread scar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

after upgrading to ubuntu 10.04, my GPG passphrase needs to be entered
at least once after logging in before it is cached and used
automatically. in ubuntu 9.10 and earlier, i only had to enter the
passphrase once, and it was cached across reboots and logouts/logins.
this is with the option Always remember passphrases whenever logged in
is selected.

before entering my passphrase and caching it, i can see it is already
stored with my other passwords in the 'passwords and encryption keys'
application (in accessories folder).

[Bug 586503] Re: /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default file not run if automatic login is enabled

2010-06-12 Thread Robert Chalmas
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gdm

In Ubuntu 10.04 with gdm 2.30.0, the file /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default is
not run if automatic login is enabled.

This was tested on 2 very different configurations:

  - 2 desktops which were recently upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic then to
  Lucid;

  - 1 laptop with a fresh install of Lucid.

  Steps to reproduce the bug:

  1. Create a simple /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default file, for example with
  this content:

  #!/bin/sh

  echo Test /tmp/aaa

  2. Logout from your session and log in again.

Check for the existence of a /tmp/aaa file. It will exist.

  3. Delete the /tmp/aaa file. Enable automatic login to any existing
  account and reboot.

Check for the existence of a /tmp/aaa file. This time it will NOT exist.

  4. Disable the automatic login and reboot, then login into the same
  account as before.

Check for the existence of a /tmp/aaa file. Now it will exist again.

My conclusion is that the file /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default is run during
a manual login but ignored during an automatic login.

I would expect the file to be run in both cases, as this happened for example
with Jaunty.

One more detail: I did a similar test with /etc/gdm/PreSession/Default
and found it is NOT affected by this bug.

[Bug 586503] Re: /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default file not run if automatic login is enabled

2010-06-12 Thread Robert Chalmas
Many thanks for caring about this problem!
Well, I can't give a unique answer. Here are my (rather strange) results after
upgrading to gdm 2.30.2.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu1:
- on one of my configurations (2 desktops upgraded from Jaunty) the
/etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default file is now run even if autologin is enabled;
- on the other configuration (the laptop with a fresh install of Lucid) it's
still not working as soon as autologin is enabled (but still working ok with
manual login).
Let me know if you need more information to further investigate the problem.

[Bug 593174] [NEW] empathy duplicates my accounts

2010-06-12 Thread David Tombs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Every now and then, empathy seems to duplicate my accounts (see
screenshot).

I'm not sure how to reproduce this, but it has happened multiple times.
I don't think it's related to an upgrade, since the only related package
I recently upgraded was telepathy-butterfly. (And I think the problem
showed itself before the upgrade to telepathy-butterly.)

More than willing to provide information, but I don't know where to
start. I don't even know where my account details are stored.

2010-06-12 Thread David Tombs
flan_suse: could you please execute the following command in a terminal
to gather gnome-power-manager info:

apport-collect 579069

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
