[Bug 195483] Re: Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change
It's nice to be able to offer a solution for a change. The fault lies not with GStreamer, but with a failure to provide the wrong command string or 'profile' for LAME to execute. For the CD Quality MP3 Profile, Edit it to read as follows : audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc mode=1 vbr=4 vbr-min-bitrate=32 vbr-max-bitrate=320 vbr-quality=3 ! id3v2mux This will result in what I call 'Super MP3' quality, average 171Kbps, ranging from 32-320Kbps, in accordance with another forum audio expert's recommendations, back when I researched sound-juicer as a suitable Linux ripping tool, which was around the time of Ubuntu 7.10 and LinuxMint-4. As I recall, the mode=1 entry ensures stereo channel separation, the vbr=4 entry ensures correct operation with the old version of LAME then being used, the critical vbr-min and vbr-max commands set the range of compression desired and the quality command merely adds a subtle enhancement, Note that this also works with other distros, especially PCLinuxOS. Regarding Scott Bronson's comment, by also setting Preferences to Eject after extracting and Open music folder and running it while using a fast Internet connection for automatic tracks data download, it can be a quite fast process of just putting a CD into the preferences optical drive, clicking on Extract and waiting for the disc to be ejected. -- Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195483 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I'm sorry for you Mahendra, but if you are bothered by these meaningful and useful bug reports you shouldn't read them at all, and maybe unsubscribe from the bug: we all know it happens then stop and then happens again, but reporting anomalies and behaviors is just the minimum we, users, can do to let developers pinpoint the whys and the hows of the problem; also, you are saying the problem happens, stops and happens again but i wonder how you could be able to say that if we really stopped to report it each time it starts and stops. [Bug 195483] Re: Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change
Sorry guys, some more information. Having just today re-checked it out, I can advise that for Ubuntu and LinuxMint, you also need gstreamer LAME plugins etc installed, most easily achieved by adding ubuntu-restricted-extras, which I am in the habit of always doing, if only to get MicroSoft Core Fonts installed, to ease cross-platform interoperation. For the real techies amongst you, gst-inspect lame will then lead you on to the LAME plugin commands that are applicable to that specific implementation of Linux LAME, so have fun ! -- Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195483 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets
Maybe I am starting to figure out something... I've got a dual monitor configuration (not xinerama) and, since i installed the second monitor, this bug we're talking about always happened on the left one (the principal). Interestingly the icons on top right are not the same: wireless is present only in the left monitor, the email and the audio icon only on the right. more interestingly some of the icons are duplicated, as the shutdown button and the session indicator button. 1) Most of the times I encounter this bug the shutdown button disappears and the session indicator appears duplicated. 2) Most of the times the shut down button is not disappeared, the session indicator one appears corrupted. 3) In this precise moment my right screen icons are regular; on my right (principal) screen all the icons are on their place but the session indicator. It is duplicated, visible and working on the right screen, not visible yet working on the left one. Concluding, I firmly believe the problem of the visual corruption relies in the session indicator applet (which may explain why previous ubuntu versions are not affected by this bug) it may sound complicated, so I am adding a couple of screenshots... ** Attachment added: Left / Right session indicator http://launchpadlibrarian.net/51727986/schermata.jpg -- visual corruption affecting several panel applets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

This relates to the following bug too, which doesn't seem to have been accepted as something needing attention... https://bugs.launchpad.net/gedit/+bug/151365 ...and which just bit me - since activating 'autosave' I thought the editor would save automatically, but a previously unsaved file is the exception. If it was a human being with this responsibility, we'd expect their resignation on the desk Monday morning, so why do we put up with it in software. [Bug 520563] Re: Power manager doesn't recognize battery usage
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 39413 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/39413 I'm seeing this problem with Lucid 64-bit on a brand new Packard Bell Dot-S2 netbook (Intel Atom N450 with 6-cell Li-Ion battery). It doesn't happen on my other laptop, a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pa 3553 also running Lucid 64-bit but on an AMD Turion X2 CPU. Battery is similar type and capacity I believe. Interestingly, if I plug in and unplug the netbook then the battery status reports correctly in gnome-power-manager. Of course this is only useful if I have the charger to hand and I'm near a power outlet which somewhat defeats the point of having a netbook! After I've plugged in and unplugged the computer so the battery status works, I get a critical warning when the battery level reaches about 75% and the computer hibernates. If I plug it in and unplug it a second time before it switches off this doesn't happen. gnome-power-manager version is 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 I've also tried using BatteryStatus (http://live.gnome.org/BatteryStatus) but still have the same problem, i.e. battery not recognised at startup but shows up when I plug in/unplug the computer. -- Power manager doesn't recognize battery usage https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520563 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 201470] [NEW] Should be a way to mount silently (no desktop icon, no window opening)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Consider this operation (done on a stock Hardy Live CD): mkdir -p ~/.tmp/mnt sudo apt-get install fuseiso # need to use fuseiso since loop-mounting seems broken on Live CD fuseiso Desktop/test.iso ~/.tmp/mnt/ In Hardy (unlike earlier versions), this adds an icon to the desktop and opens a Nautilus popup window, which I do *not* want. I hear that it is supposed to be this way ONLY if you use a mount point inside /media - but unfortunately that is not the case. Please add a mount option to mount silently, like mount -o donotshow Another option would be that if the mount point starts with a dot, then the volume is mounted without adding an icon to the desktop and without opening a Nautilus popup window. (Globally disabling desktop icons and opening windows is *not* an option, i need a way to do this per mount point.) Use case: The klik project (klikclient.googlecode.com) packages individual applications inside ISO files. Each time you launch an application, an ISO is silently mounted, from which the application then runs. This worked fine until now, but now in Hardy the Nautilus popup windows and desktop icons are very confusing. There should be a way for klik to specify that no such icons and windows are opened. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed -- Should be a way to mount silently (no desktop icon, no window opening) https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/201470 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 324043] Re: Not all birthdays are shown
I received the message that there is a fix, not showing all birthdays in the calendar. I installed an Evolution update last week, but I have at least two birthdays that are not showing in the calendar at this time. One on April 2, (04/02/1951) and one on July 14 (07/14/1955). I notice that if I change something about the 7-14 contact it immediately shows up in the calendar, but if I close Evolution and reopen it the birthday no longer shows in the calendar. On 2010-05-04, I mentioned that a 4-25 birthday did not show in the calendar, but before the update, it reappeared in the calendar. I suspect there is an impact of the system date changing if a specific contact date appears in the calendar. I left the 4-25 birthday with a year of 2008 since I reported the bug. I believe the 4-25 birthday contact reappeared in the calendar on the correct date about a month after their birthday, sometime late in May, and I believe the 4-25 birthday continued to show in the calendar after it reappeared before the update to Evolution.
