[Bug 604497] [NEW] Evolution doesn't provide GNOME Pilot (Palm) conduits anymore in Maverick
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Evolution used to provide a set of conduits for GNOME Pilot to synchronise e.g. your Palm with the Evolution Data Server. However, in Maverick the conduits are gone. This isn't necessary, when I asked at the #evolution IRC channel on GIMPNet about it I was told that the conduits were gone in Evolution 3.0, but should still be available in 2.30. [Bug 195483] Re: Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change
Fascinating ! Re-reading the thread I see that folk are using different analysis tools or players to decide what the results are, rather than simply listening to the results with their chosen player. Such players and tools produce different, sometimes highly misleading reports, such as just blandly reporting an encoded stream to be CBR 128Kbps, when it's actually a VBR stream. Even VLC Player's Ctrl_I report is misleading ! Back when I originally researched gst-inspect lame to come up with my recommended profile for Sound-Juicer, I was advised to use WinXP-hosted EncSpot, then at version 2.0 Basic, to analyse the results, for comparison with WinXP-hosted CDEX encoding results. That resulting Histogram is as attached in my Comment to Gotit, above. Re-running that analysis, there's been a subtle change in results, now reporting VBR average BitRate of only 165 rather than 171, but the revised results are still acceptable when simply dwelling on a track in Nautilus, or better yet when playing in Exaile, whose simple interface I prefer to the complexity of Rhythmbox or Amarok. However, most players and tools are still providing misleading technical reports on my rigs. So could it all be down to misleading analysis of results, rather than gstreamer problems ? -- Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195483 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 604515] [NEW] MKV (x264+vorbis) sound problem since Ubuntu 10.04

[Bug 569273] Re: memory leak in gnome-power-manager on lucid
Filed: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=624082 and got a snarky (though justified) response. :-P (I get pissed when someone breaks my code too.) If ubuntu is going to change/break things at least have the decency to change the version number. The valgrind dump that I have is probably useless compared to others, but included in the conversation below anyway. Dave V [reporter] 2010-07-11 05:08:07 UTC The gnome-power-manager process continually grows in size, consuming memory, pushing other programs into swap and generally killing the system. It takes around a week or two to eventually fill 1GB of ram. Killing and restarting the process is an easy enough work around. I don't see this problem on my i686 laptop, just my amd64 desktop. I killed the process and ran valgrind --leak-check=full gnome-power-manager 2 valgrind-gpm-dump. I allowed it to run for about 8 hours before interrupting with control-C to output the report. The screen was locked for most of this time (via GPM's lock screen after 10 minutes). The file is attached. If there's anything else that you'd like me to attach, please let me know. $ gnome-power-manager --version Version 2.30.0 Using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Lucid Lynx Dave V [reporter] 2010-07-11 05:15:23 UTC attachment failed as it's slightly too big (1.3M vs the 1.0M max). please see the text file at: http://mindkeep.org/valgrind-gpm-dump Richard Hughes [gnome-power-manager developer] 2010-07-12 06:24:00 UTC This is caused by a shitty patch written by ubuntu that is not upstream. [Bug 604291] Re: Rhythmbox crashes when selecting Last.fm, Radio, Jamendo or Magnatune
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 504405] Re: Ctrl-Tab should jump to the next tab
Just some additional comments: - MS Excel does not support Ctrl+Tab to change tabs, but to change between documents. Because they are in separate windows, it does the same as Alt+Tab under Windows. To change between tabs, you need to press Ctrl+PgUp / Ctrl+ PgDown (it took me a long time to find it out :-). - Ctrl+Tab is usually different to Ctrl+PgUp/Down. While the latter navigates in the order the documents had been opened, Ctrl+Tab considers the order in which they have been shown. Not complicated, but hard to explain, so here is an example: user opens Document A, B, C, D navigates to D, then B - Ctrl+PgDown will lead him from B to C, because it is the next document in the list - Ctrl+Tab will lead him back to D, because it was shown at last. This is an important difference for the user experience. I always use Ctrl+Tab to navigate back where I have been before. Sometimes I remember until the last 3 documents (Ctrl+Tab/Tab/Tab). When the application is showing the list of documents while holding Ctrl down, it is even easier to move back in the history. IMHO, this feature is essential for some applications in which you usually have many open documents, eg a text editor or any IDE. It's negligible in applications where you have only a few tabs or static tabs (eg. tab based dialog). Application supporting navigation in history on Ctrl+Tab (sorry, windows only, I'm currently on a Windows box, I will probably make a list on my Ubuntu Box when I find the time): - Visual Studio - Notepad++ Application which navigate in order in which documents were opened - Firefox (disappointingly) - Total Commander - MonoDevelop (2.4 on Windows) -- Ctrl-Tab should jump to the next tab https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/504405 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 458376] Re: Indicate the active keyboard layout in 'Keyboard Preferences'-Layouts
The general pattern is that when an item in a status menu opens a window, that window shows a superset of the information from the menu. The battery status menu shows the charge for a battery, and a menu item opens a window that shows the charge *and* other things. The sound menu shows the volume, and one of its items opens a window that shows the volume *and* other settings. The keyboard menu should show the current layout, and one of its items opens a window that should show the current *and* other settings. In each case, we should cater for people who want to access the information or settings without having the relevant menu in their panel at all. A simple solution to this is to add a column of radio buttons to the left of the Layouts list. Make sure the radio buttons do not interfere with drag and drop for items in the list. [Bug 604649] [NEW] Screensaver still runs after being unlocked
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver Hi, I ran into a really strange problem today with gnome-screensaver and the rss-glx package. Upon unlocking my desktop with a password, the first screen (left) showed black and the second screen (right) showed the screensaver that was still running. I was not able to click on anything, as though the screensaver was still running on both screens, but as soon as I pressed ALT+TAB I was able to see the desktop on both screens and I had the application-switcher which allowed me to select an application. As soon as I let go of ALT, it would revert back to the original screen view of showing black on the left and the screensaver on the right. I was also able to use CTRL+ALT+MOUSE to flip through various workspaces, but as soon as I released the mouse it would show the black screen on the left and the screensaver on the right. I'm not sure if I would be able to do reproduce the error again. Notes - Screen Configuration: Twinview - Compiz: Active - Display Driver: Nvidia 195.36.24 - Screensaver: Drempels (rss-glx 0.9.0-2ubuntu4) - Estimated Running Time of Screensaver: ~10-30 minutes - Ubuntu: 10.04 LTS - Gnome Screensaver (gnome-screensaver 2.30.0-0ubuntu2) ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Screensaver still runs after being unlocked https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/604649 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 604648] [NEW] Evince doesn't print some pdf if page size are too bigger
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince I have downloaded a pdf but when I try to print it with evince, after a while appear an error dialog reporting Errore di stampa Si è verificato un problema nell'elaborare il documento nomedocumento.pdf, document was not printed and furthermore my printer give me a blank sheet with just some other error informations: Error: /rangecheck in --.execform1-- Operand stack: --dict: 7/16 (L) -- 1 11 PDF information extracted with pdfinfo are: Creator:Adobe InDesign CS4 (6.0.4) Producer: Adobe PDF Library 9.0 CreationDate: Thu Jun 17 15:14:35 2010 ModDate:Thu Jun 17 15:14:39 2010 Tagged: no Pages: 1 Encrypted: no Page size: 850.394 x 1190.55 pts File size: 342137 bytes Optimized: yes PDF version:1.6 So I have supposed that probably is a problem of page size. Firstly I have installed also Acrobat Reader, opened the same pdf file and tried to print, and all is ok. Next, I have re opened the same file with evince: also the print preview confirm my hypothesis because not all the pdf area of the page are displayed correctly but only a part of it (cutting some text on left and right side). So I have searched if evince give me the possibility to scale it and after a while I find on Gestione pagina (probably page management) the select box near label Scala pagina (probably page scaling). Setting it to Adatta all'area stampabile (probably adapt it to print area) and next printing the pdf work ok and print a pdf similarly to the pdf printed with acrobat reader. So I think that the right behaviour of evince in this cases would be to adapt the page automatically if page size are too bigger.
