[Bug 571038] Re: palimpsest
I'm now getting this error as well. nandox7, I think you've got it pretty much nailed. The code is having trouble reading the partition table or EBR or ? Not-too-coincidentally, yesterday I installed Paragon BR 10 FE on my Win7 partition, and was testing it by backing up and restoring my Win7 partition. Grub2 is working fine - I can boot into Ubuntu Lucid and Win7 w/o problems. But my guess is that the Paragon s/w changed something that palimpsest can no longer read/calc properly. Hope that might give you guys a clue. -- palimpsest https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571038 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP
On Fri, Jul 16, 2010 at 05:42:31PM -, Keith Edwin Smith wrote: As Scott says and moreover. Ubuntu could have solved this trivially. Ubuntu decided to package a broken version of GDM when an older functional version exists that is totally compatable and already working and in place in older versions of Ubuntu. The older version of gdm is unmaintained and Ubuntu does not have the resources to continue maintaining it in an appropriate fashion. Furthermore, the new version that is missing XDMCP support is missing it because it's a redesign/rewrite of GDM that is not yet a feature-complete replacement - but as a result of that redesign, it brings in many other features that are not possible to retrofit onto the old version, which are also important to many users. So there is a tradeoff here. This is far from a simple case of Ubuntu ignoring the absence of XDMCP support; Ubuntu in fact held off the transition to the current upstream version of GDM for several releases until it had a feature set comparable to the previous version. Indeed, for XDMCP we /had/ planned to provide the old gdm implementation in parallel as a gdm-2.20 package, but owing to a miscommunication, this package was removed before the 10.04 release. :/ If support for XDMCP in gdm in future releases of Ubuntu is of concern to you, the most certain way to ensure this is by talking to the GDM upstream developers and make your needs known. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. [Bug 606864] [NEW] Automount of encrypted medium at login doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Hello, there, I have set up an encrypted usb memory stick using luks containing an ext3 filesystem - and some magic allows my ubuntu system to automatically mount it when I plug it in after asking me for the passphrase. Everything works like magic, but if the USB stick is already plugged in at boot it will not be automatically mounted when I log in nor appear in /dev/mapper; Unencrypted media is always automatically mounted as soon as I log in to my system, and if I remove the encrypted USB stick and reattach it to my computer it is automatically detected and mounted instantly even if it was ignored at log-in time. My first idea was that the system tries to mount the encrypted stick before it is able to ask me for my passphrase so I told my system to remember the passphrase - but this didn't solve my problem. Hope that I have attached the bug report to the right package (nautilus at least seems to support a gconf setting for automounting). Kind regards, Gunter. [Bug 50198] Re: Timeout has expired error on resume from hibernate
This is currently occurring on about 40% of resumes for me (ubuntu 10.04), on a Dell Inspiron 1420N (sold with ubuntu). Over several ubuntu releases, it seems like this problem has disappeared and reappeared, perhaps multiple times. [Bug 435136] Re: gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor assert failure: libgdu:ERROR:gdu-pool.c:1253:device_recurse: assertion failed: (depth 100)
OK, so I've spent a few hours trying to track down a possible cause of this bug as it also affects palimpsest (Disk Utility); when run both would exit with the device_recurse error. However, a Maverick install in a VirtualBox VM didn't have these issues, hence it must be hardware- dependent (I also tried Debian squeeze versions of g-d-u and libgdu). I have a Dell Studio 17 (1749) into which I have connected an external USB keyboard and mouse - and with a sudden flash of inspiration I unplugged both and tried running palimpsest. Surprise - runs correctly. Even when I plugged both back in palimpsest ran correctly, as did gvfs- gdu-volume-monitor. I normally boot with both devices connected, hence the error will occur when the machine is started. [Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP
What's very confusing to me is the mixing of the client and server support. Has the XDMCP support of the gdmgreeter been removed? Has the XDMCP support of the gdm server been removed? Have they both been removed? I believe this report originally targeted the gdmgreeter and that is the only XDMCP support that has been remoced. A possible workaround for some users would be to use tsclient / xephyr as a client. Also the upstream comment: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=592976#c1 claims that gdm 2.30 server should still be supported. In fact I am able to connect to Lucid by adding the XDMCP entries Enable=true and DisplayPerHost=2 to the custom.conf file on the server with start xephyr session from a Lucid client. But I only can start a single session which sometime has interesting issues like button presses not triggering. Also once I disconnect I cannot reconnect to the server with the error message: Session declined Maximum number of open Sessions from your host reached This only happens when connecting to a Lucid gdm 2.30.2 server. Connecting to a Goddard gdm 2.30.2 allows multiple successive logins. I also have issues connection to a Lucid gdm 2.30.2 server at all on one machine that was upgraded from karmic. But I'm not sure whether it's worthwhile to report these issues until it becomes clear whether XDMCP is supported as a gdm service in Lucid or not. -- No option to log in remotely via XDMCP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408417 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP
Steve, First of all, thank you for all of your work with Debian and Ubuntu. Without people like you there would be no alternatives. Maintenance and Support are always important, and the gnome group is notorious for goofing up functionality and regression in their releases. None the less, XDMCP is kind of like a *CORE* functionality of the X system, available in the earliest releases, and not that complex. Gnome/GDM's decision to toss it out was stupid, like building a fancy house in Phoenix (115 yesterday) without putting in an Air Conditioner. Yea, it's just fine in January, but come July . . . Ubuntu had a working GDM in prior LTS releases. LTS releases IMHO should be highly functional, and fully regression tested. If a package breaks regression that badly it simply should not be included. Maintenance not withstanding, at the moment in Phoenix, I'd rather have an Old Clunky A/C than none at all. In Ubuntu I'd rather have an un-maintained GDM that does what it used to, than a Maintained version that does not. It's not our fault... doesn't get it because the package maintainers at Ubuntu _chose_ to put a broken gdm in play in a Long Term Support release, that makes it impossible to upgrade from an 8.04 X-windows Terminal Server, without replacing core components manually. Yuk. This problem is fairly typical. Most developers don't actually use the products they develop so they don't notice when they goof up something people use. Problem is, now we have to hold our breath to see if: 1. The GDM developers are going to fix the product 2. Ubuntu will actually implement the upgrade in the 10.04 LTS release! I'm sure eventually this will get resolved. In the mean time we'll go down to Home Depot and grab a window A/C for the summer eh? :). It's just the alternative LM's are so frakking ugly. . . -- No option to log in remotely via XDMCP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408417 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 604846] Re: Error receiving email File is encrypted or is not a database
Thank you both, this fixed the issue. Looking back at my log post I see the folders.db file shown just before the error message. Even though there seem to be ..if not exist create.. statements even if I was sure it would be re-created I would not deleted it because I do not know the data it contains or if it is just an index file of the existing folders in Evolution. Is there a place to find out technical information on Evolution? I have used Outlook with Sendmail as a back-end. When Outlook has a size problem or indexing problem a recovery, if any, is only partially successful. Evolution has been working great since I started to use it and this full recovery of all emails, folders, rules, etc. has me sold on Evolution. This bug has been resolved for me. [Bug 606985] [NEW] menu hangs and so does the taskbar at bottom
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-menus First! I am new to Linux and the bug-report tool, I hope I don´t file a duplicate. This is what happens When I select a menu entry / item with RMB and then remember, ops this is not Windows, release the RMB and goes down to System - ?Settings? - ?configure main menu? The whole menu hangs staying in an outfolded state, the taskbar (our what you call it) at the bottom also freezes and it is impossible to choose any minimized application with the mouse. [Bug 607044] [NEW] Weather applet's location data is incorrect for St. Petersburg, FL
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-applets Version information: Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS Release:10.04 Installed: 2.30.0-0ubuntu2 While configuring the weather feature of the clock applet, trying to locate my location (Saint Petersburg, FL[1]) proved difficult as it turns out it's listed under a separate municipality as: Tampa (St. Petersburg, Whitted Airport), Florida, United States Which is actually a city across Tampa Bay. St. Petersburg is not a suburb of Tampa, so listing it as a substation is incorrect and confusing (took me 10 minutes to find it listed at all). Presumably you get your weather station data from a 3rd party service, however Ubuntu is the only place I've seen this station listed like that, so I don't know if everybody else is correcting for it or if it's actually a bug in your data.
