2010-08-16 Thread What, me urgent?
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 618513 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/618513

Wrong. At least it seems to me without being an expert in the internals.
They truly are two separate and distinct bugs.
Read the short descriptions

One is an issue regarding shutdown
One is regarding user-switching

One successfully processes a password authentification
One (seemingly) does not

One can result in data loss (due to shut down)
One can only result in data compromise

We're both right! I did, in fact register two separate bugs in the past hour;
however, I see that somehow it was recorded as three bugs 618512, 618413, and

Apologies. Thanks for keeping me honest.

[Bug 40872] Re: Desktop icons are allowed to overlap

2010-08-16 Thread PabloAB
See this post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=6512055postcount=6
I think ive found a solution in gconf-editor: apps nautilus icon-view,
then check default_use_tighter_layout. this solves the horizontal overlap. the
vertical overlap problem still remains since the align grid gets smaller, but
using Clean up name helps.
I think this should be the default setup.

[Bug 563555] Re: no mouse cursor

2010-08-16 Thread rqau
I observed this behavior after installing Ubuntu 10.04 to a new hard
drive. The cursor was working properly initially, but disappeared when
I changed the screen resolution. After that, it behaved as noted above
-- locate cursor worked, mouse buttons worked, ctrl-alt-F1 then ctrl-
alt-F7 restored cursor, etc.

The installation of Ubuntu 10.04 on my old disk did not have this
behavior. I checked that old file system, and there was an xorg.conf
file there. The new system did not have xorg.conf. When I copied the
old system's xorg.conf into the new system, the cursor returned with no
problems, even after changing resolutions or rebooting.

Unfortunately, the old xorg.conf only uses the generic VESA driver. I
may have had to use that driver because of problems when I first set up
Ubuntu; it's too long ago to remember. The new xorg.conf generated as
described in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto uses
the Intel driver for my system (Intel 82845G/GL/GE). With that
xorg.conf, the mouse cursor disappears.

[Bug 615803] Re: Computer freeze when removing power cable

2010-08-16 Thread Simon Almström
This is what I have done. Some steps might seem strange but is explained
by me not having an internet connection on the laptop when these tests
are conducted (I will get the internet access back again)

First test:
1. A clean installation from the CD (I had massive problem with my fn-button
freeze and after one hard reboot, I could not log in without a freeze, no
matter what I did. I had to re-install Ubuntu 9.10 and then install Ubuntu
10.04 again before it worked (just re-installing Ubuntu 10.04 did not worked -
even if I formatted the disk))
2. Boot
3. Unplugg the power cable
4. The laptop freezes
5. Hard reboot
6. Save log file as kern_mint.log

Second test:
1. Remove the pm-ubilt-powersave-policy package (sudo apt-get remove
pm-utils-powersave-policy)
2. Unplugg the power cable
3. The laptop freezes
4. Hard reboot
5. Save log file as kern_nopmutils.log

6. Re-install Ubuntu 10.04 from the CD (This is to get the pm-utils-
powersave-policies package back). I formatted the / partition but not
the /home partition (I have three partitions on my disk /, /home and
swap)

Third test:
1. Boot
2. Rename file (sudo mv /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/95hdparm-apm
/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/95hdparm-apm.orig)
3. Unplugg the power cable
4. The laptop freezes
5. Hard reboot
6. Save log file kern_renamefile.log

7. Rename back the file (sudo mv /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/95hdparm-
apm.orig /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/95hdparm-apm)

As you can see, nothing of the suggested things solved the problem. I
hope that the logs contain the information you need. Is there any other
logs that I can take to help you?

Another side note? Why is there no submit field on the Add Comment box?
It took me several attempts to get the comment added...

[Bug 314408] Re: Please separate autodetected from locally configured printers

2010-08-16 Thread Till Kamppeter
I have changed the formulation of the subject and description somewhat
to make more clear what is requested. It also looks like that it is
rather simple to implement, so I have awarded this report with the paper
cut status.

** Description changed:

- The main reason why Debian/Ubuntu does not enable automatic printer detection
- in cups by default is that there is no way to tell apart locally configured
- (and thus trusted) printers from those which got detected automatically (and
- thus open the possibility of luring someone into printing confidential
material

2010-08-16 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Sebastian...

Since you (or somebody) marked the duplicate
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-
daemon/+bug/612098) as invalid, I resubmitted this.

It is obviously not an invalid bug as it it undesirable behavior (to say
the least) and the result of an obscure and unrelated functionality.

The fixing of bugs by marking them invalid may improve statistics but
does improve the users experience.

[Bug 508890] Re: Nautilus crashes when there are multiple XScreens

2010-08-16 Thread Raphael Gradenwitz
OK. I can confirm that in build 1:2.31.6-0ubuntu3.2 this bug is solved.
Thanks!

Another Issue which is new with dual screen:

Invoking a Nautilus session from a launcher in the start menu or in the
launchbar (panel) on Screen1 (the second screen) opens a window in Screen0 (the
first screen). That looks definitively like a bug since all other applications
are behaving normal (they open in the screen where the menu/panel resides).
When I create a launcher file on the desktop on screen1 (the second screen) and
open it, the window apears on that screen as expected.
Do I have to open another bugreport for that?

[Bug 521766] Re: Theme not applied on startup

2010-08-16 Thread thorstenmz
I do have the same problems with Ubuntu 10.04.

My settings are:

Theme: User Defined

Window Contents: Inverted
Window Frame: New Wave
Symbols: GNOME

Frequently after booting up, and sometimes at random when closing an
application, the theme is changed to:

Raleigh

When I open System - Preferences - Appearance, my settings are
automatically restored for all windows except Nautilus. Nautilus keeps
Raleigh (including button click sound). I have to kill Nautilus manually
to make it use my settings.

This is very annoying. If you need any more info, just contact me, I'll
glady provide everything you need.

That's not really a bug (and certainly not one in Nautilus). This is
just how the underlying filesystem works

[Bug 618574] Re: Evolution crashes when I open e mails similar to the one I forwarded

2010-08-16 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 617618] Re: gnome-control-center-Keyboard changes screen0 resolution

2010-08-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The fixing of bugs by marking them invalid may improve statistics
but does improve the users experience.

The statistics don't really matter, having a buglist usuable does
rather, that's not a bug, that software is meant to be used under GNOME
to work correctly

[Bug 406515] Re: Brightness fn keys lost functionality (Lenovo laptops)

2010-08-16 Thread Darwin Bautista
This bug has been fixed upstream since 2.6.34-rc6 by this commit:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=3143751ff51a163b77f7efd389043e038f3e008e

I've rebuilt the i915 module in 2.6.32 with the patch above and the
brightness keys are working again as expected. I've been using this for
almost a month already, no hiccups or whatsoever. That being said, I
hope that the Ubuntu kernel devs will backport the fix, which has been
available for about FOUR months now, as soon as possible. This bug is
really annoying but can be readily fixed. Thanks.

[Bug 618700] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon X keyboard grab

2010-08-16 Thread Edward O'Connor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

When using Fn+F5/Fn+F6 volume up/down keys on my netbook, gnome-
settings-daemon does an X keyboard grab which it doesn't give up.

Before figuring out which process it was with the grab, my only recourse
(when not on a network with another machine I have a account on) has
been to force a power-off.
